  • FUCK. no offense, but that was awesome. Tri pod aren't just comedians but actually great singers. The harmonies blended brilliantly.

  • This song was a tribute to a woman who dies. She worked at the ABC for a long time.

  • What a great song that is!! Very emotional.

  • My Grandmother has requested this song for her funeral. Does anyone know where I can get sheet music for this? with parts? (Just in case? hopefully I won't need it for years!)

  • @lostinthetempest ........my acapella group sings this - track it down through Paul Kelly lyrics, I guess. It is wonderful to perform. Hopefully you won't need it for years!

  • Simply beautiful...

  • Pure talent

  • can someone put up the logies version they did?

  • the first couple of seconds of the song sounds like 'my heart will go on'.

  • they sung this at the Logies during the "In Memoriam" video. Now that is all I can think of, this is a truly beautiful song, love them :')

  • this is amazing... just watched it on the logies... brought a tear to my eye...

  • They just performed this on the 2011 Logies Awards ... amazing voices & song!

  • That was breathtaking. Just... wow. Yeah, we breed 'em good in Australia. Heart, soul and talent in each of those men. Beautiful.

  • Just can say: Wow!!!

  • That is sooo pretty!

  • i love this so much; the singing is perfect :')

  • Must say this is one of my favorites. Wow. Thank you, guys!

  • oh wow. had me on the brink of tears with the beauty of it. simply amazing.

  • Absolutely beautiful

  • I saw them perform this live at Port Fairy. Being the song played at my cousin's funeral, it always brings a tear to my eye.

  • @Hailtotheduck If i ever have to select a peice of music for my own funural, this will be it! I can see why you selected it.

  • I'm really not into the religious stuff, but this is a truly beautiful performance.

  • Fascinating Song. Psalm 23, from God's perspective, not the Psalmists perspective.

Paul Kelly - Go You Good Thing!

  • I can't figure out who is doing the bass/baritone voice. I think it's Eddie Perfect, but I'm not sure. Thoughts, anyone?

    @BudgieMan67:

God's perspective? WTF is that supposed to mean? Do you (or alternatively, does the text that you're citing, if that be the case) REALLY know God's perspective? Seems pretty effing arrogant to me. Offensive, even, to anyone that believes in any sort of God at all.

  • It is Eddie Perfect doing the Bass baritone

  • @ChapChap07 Yeh i believe it's Eddie, because when he sings his part, you can only hear the tenor and alto parts sung by the other three.

  • timtqh - I put it on Digg but nothing happened. :( I'll just again I think it is absolutely spinetingling brilliant.

  • so so good!!

  • haunting

  • I wish Tripod would come to Minnesota. It's a bit of a drive though :)

This song gives me goose bumps. This just proves that Tripod are great vocalists on top of being funny.

  • This aired on my bitrthday that year!!! And I really wish my choir could do this song. I love this song and I love Tripod!

  • Holy freaking crap these guys are good!

  • i keep listenin to this ova and ova again.... i love it!

  • this video should have about a billion more views than it does.

  • This is an absolutely beautiful song, I was almost crying but I was wondering,

Through process of elimination I've deduced that it's either Eddie Perfect or the guy from Tripod with the glasses singing the really low bass part, does anyone know who it is exactly?

  • Eddie Perfect

I get pins and needles every time I hear this - it really as spectacular

  • i'd say your right. eddie perfect has about a 3 octave range. i'm pretty sure he is doing the very low hum but he is performing tenor for his solo part

  • it is the guy with the glasses that does the base.

  • @jaybeekaypee sure? i think it's eddie

  • @jaybeekaypee ya wrong

  • Eddie is singing the bass part on this song. Scod--Scott Edgar--from Tripod is one of the middle parts, and occasionally appears to trade off with Yon for the melody.

Listen to when Eddie sings his verse--the bass part drops out, where it's present for the other verses. Also, Scod tends to be the falsetto parts when Tripod performs (See "Suicide Bomber", and "Gonna Make You Happy Tonight" for examples) and I'm pretty sure he's singing the falsetto on the intro bars of this song here.

  • as far as I knew runneth is, and always has been a poetic device for inserting a syllable and making it flow better

  • They dun good. They dun real good. Gramatically correct that assholes.

  • So beautiful! Brought a tear to my eye, coz my mum lost her stepfather yesterday afternoon. 5 stars!

  • i cried

  • All I can say is wow! Hadn't heard this song until Sound Relief and love it. Have new found respect for Paul Kelly

  • wow. thats mind blowing. really nice sound.

  • You'll have to blame religion for that runneth. :D

  • And if you "blame" religion for the runneth, you can thank religion for the whole song - Read Psalm 23 and you'll see why

  • Isn't it supposed to be "your cup runneth over" without the 'will'? because then it makes sense...

  • That would make sense. or "Your cup will run over." either one. The way they sing it, it's just mixing present and future tense. If they just stick to one tense it sounds so much better.

  • it's called old english.

  • My point is that it's Old English used incorrectly. Beautiful melody, Grammatically incorrect lyrics. While sometimes bad grammar can fit the song and be acceptable, the lyrics totally detract from the song here and seem inappropriate. I hope the lyricist corrects it in future performaces or printings of the song.

  • the whole song is based on the 23rd psalm the lyrics DO Not detract from the song. That is the whole point they sung it as a dedication to a friend who had died !

The 23rd psalm is typically read at a funeral. Very appropriate.

  • Actually, it does still detract because instead of focusing on the comfort and peace it's meant to give, people who are familiar with Old English/Scriptural English will notice the incorrect use of tense and shudder inwardly.

If it was meant as a quote of the 23rd psalm, it should be quoted directly and wouldn't suffer from the mixed tenses. If it was meant as a paraphrase, it should still be given the respect that sacred scripture deserves by having the grammar be correct.

  • My complaint with the lyrics does not mean however that I dislike the harmonies, the skill of the singers, or what the song is attempting to do. It's just that the grammar mistake is so obvious and distracting that it makes it hard to focus on what the composer, lyricist, and performers are trying to accomplish. That's why I said that I hope it's corrected in future performances and printings. I didn't mean to offend anyone but to offer an opinion, which is what the comments section is for.

  • oreospapa: in the cd recorded version i believe it has been fixed, but still the very fact that you find one tiny mistake distracting from this entire beautiful song doesn't say much about your appreciation for anything.

  • Im wit thexev on this one. How can anyone be hung up on something as simple as grammer and context when the purpose was as beautiful and meaningful from a grup of artist who have stepped out of there performance boundarys to pay tribute to a dearly missed friend. You completly missed the point oreospapa.

  • The original King James translation of Psalm 23 is "My cup doth runneth over" - or to modernise it - "My cup does run over" - so the "runneth" does not have equate to "runs"...

  • Actually, it IS still wrong. Look at the tenses when you reference Psalms. "Doth" is present tense (equivalent to modern day "does") and so is "Runneth". "Your cup will runneth" is mixing tenses because "Will" is future and "Runneth" is present.

  • Sorry - "runneth" and "runs" are not the same thing - the CAN be - but in this case, it's actually correct

  • This epitomises the talent that Tripod have. In this way they are reflectant of the Doug Anthony All Stars when they sang "Throw Your Arms Around Me" in a tribute concert for Holly. Not many artists are this good. Us Australians are proud to breed such talent.

  • @Chrisler18 Everything you said was correct. From Paul Kelly to Tripod to Megan Washington, each version of this song I love.

For what it's worth, ever heard DAAS's version of Heard It Through The Grapevine? It's haunting.

  • @bersaba I have heard of it, yes. Paul's voice is quite unique, so it makes the song all the more dramatic.

Tim Minchin singing Drowned, or White Wine in the Sun are excellent too. There's definitely something in our water!

  • Thats eddie perfect singing the bass part right? He's got pretty good range.

  • Yeah i thought that, really good if it is

  • This is why these guys are great musicians. They can do songs that make you laugh til you cry, then turn around and do a song like this that makes you cry for a whole different reason.

    Simply beautiful and brilliant,

  • i saw this live at there christmas show. eddie wasn't there, but it's just as entrancing. it says a lot if a song and its singers can reach into your heart and make it stop for a few minutes. that's what it feels like listeting to this.

  • Hey thexev, were you down at the Peninsula lounge? I was at that one. Saw them last year at the Corner also.

    Awesome stuff.

  • i was at the corner this year. on the 4th i think it was. i've seen them twice there for their christmas shows.

  • i totally didnt see this coming when i went to watch it. i wulda never thought my fav tripod video wouldnt even be funny. but its a good kind of surprise.

  • This song is perfection. Beautiful boys!

It's a rare thing when you can make an audience collectively stop breathing to a song that doesn't have music.

  • OMG this is soooo good

  • Tripod + Eddie Pefect= possibly the greatest vocal combination ever heard

  • Oh man...I saw their Christmas show in Melbourne last year and at the end, Eddie Perfect came out and they sang this. It was amazing.

  • I saw their Chrissy show in Adelaide, I am so jealous of you!!Mind you, the show I saw was still awesome - my Christmas tree broke and so I had a Christmas Chair instead that year....

  • Those harmonies are positively scrumptious! Can't believe it's taken me this long to find this and add it to favourites.

  • omg i love eddie perfect's voice!! he should seriously more often!

the tripod guys were suprisingly good aswell...but geeze eddie sounds like an angel

  • this is awesome...

    I <3 IT.

  • I play this to friends & neighbors....Beatles had harmony..but this? yes, shivers in my spine to....DAAS have great harmony..but this? OMG..Didn't Paul Kelly write this?

  • It's a Paul Kelly song, but he kind of adapted it from Psalm 23, I think...

  • DAAS, Tripod and Eddie Perfect probaly the best singing comedians around oops i forgot Tim Minchin :)

  • Shivers down my spine... this was amazing.

  • This is truly a excellently done song!

  • STUNNIN

  • b-e-a-utiful!

  • I happened to flick on the ABC one night and caught just as Paul was saying "tripod!" and thought "hey, I like Tripod and love Eddie Perfect, I'll watch this"

  • Actually it was up on the site...this was the first week the Sideshow site had a SCROLL options..so after Dave Hughes, Claire Hooper and the Umbies you could scroll down and it was 4th. Buried, but it was there...but only till the new episode clips are posted up. Glad it's here :)

  • Finally someone had the sense to put this on Youtube.

I watched this last week and was moved by it.

I emailed Tripod to let them know how beautiful it was. They said thank you very much.

The sideshow put it on their site but its only going to be there for another few days so its nice to have it here.

The song is better than the original Paul Kelly song which I heard.

Thank you for posting this wonderful video

  • Thanks from me too. This version is spine tingling. Magnifico guys!
