  • ! Classic !

  • If you saw the actual match you would realize that you have to give credit to dravid as well, the aussies tried to break him as the weaker link in their partnership but he quietly put away many bad balls and rotated strike well

  • Greatest innings of all time imho. We might have just seen the last of him though. Sad to see him go but I think his time is up

  • this knock of laxman reminders at that time australian cricket team that they was not unbeatable. great knock by a wristy batsman

  • it looks like laxman could mastered warne, too. rahul dravid's 180 in this innings was also very elegent and outstanding. what a test match!

  • @robochimp143 ya one of the historic test match

  • I m watching in 2012 hehe

  • I remember watching this when I was in 10th class. I have gradually stopped watching cricket since then. Maybe because, I know that I've already watched the most beautiful, most amazing innings ever played, and that it's all downhill from there.

  • One the THE greatest test innings of all time!

  • VVS laxman rajnikanth of indian cricket

  • perhaps the greatest innings in Tests in the last 20 years. lara's 375, 400 and hayden's 380 pale in comparison.

  • With out a doubt this is the best inning of all time viv was and will remain the greatest bats man of all Time but this inng beats any thing els I have seeen played in last 35 years from any one vvs thanks for the entertainment

  • @2020Crescent

Lara's 153 is the greatest innings of all time, this was a great knock as well...

  • The high point for me was whn arguably the best spinner in the cricket history, Warne, hit his breaking point of frustration and started bowlin bouncers to him !! It was hilarious at the same time pitiable.

    Indeed a masterclass.

  • 9 Australian team members dislike this video

  • For anyone who cares, India won this match by 171 runs- even after following on.

  • dravid is scum.

  • Laxman if you're reading this...you need to stop looking down the wicket every time you get bowled and hoping it's a no-ball....just accept that you got bowled and walk off like every other batsman would do. On your day, you're an ok batsman, you're certainly not anything that special but show some class by walking off when you get out.

  • @bertyblue You've trolled other Laxman videos with your irrelevant criticisms. You know nothing about cricket if you think Laxman is an ok batsman; his technique, his timing, and his ability to perform in timely situations make him an incredibly impressive batsman. If you think he's actually watching this, you're a moron. Stop with this shit that he, of all players, is unsportsmanlike for checking for a no ball. Have you heard any bowler complain about how Laxman goes about his game? I haven't.

  • @bertyblue along with azhar he has the best wrists ever. while azhar could destroy an attack better than him, laxman is one of the best batsman on a wearing 4 or 5 th day strip ever.

  • 1:46 WHAT A SHOT

  • what a match what a player,,what an intensity through out the 5 days.. these mathces makes crazy on cricket..greatest match ever i saw..

  • Laxman is a class act! he is one of my fav indian batsman. who will replace sachin, dravid and laxman?

  • @bertyblue shut up .______

  • can't stand this fat indian fool, hope he retires soon, every time he gets bowled or caught he look straight at the umpire to see if it's a no-ball, what an idiot

  • @bertyblue

yand no one did that once in england, ur calling a legend a "fat fool" just show what cause of an asshole you are! get the fuck out

  • I can't stand this guy - has anyone else noticed that everytime Laxman gets out, especially when he gets bowled he looks straight down the wicket at the umpire to check if the ball was a no-ball....it's so friggin annoying...yesterday when he was cleaned bowled by Anderson he made the umpire check to see if it was a no-ball!! I can't believe he doesn't get any slack for this...

  • @bertyblue shut up u obviously dont know anything about Cricket, im English and Laxman and Dravid are the only two Indian Cricket players that i respect,

  • @asanderson169 Recently in the test series, this idiot got bowled by Anderson, instead of just walking when you're bowled like every other batsman would, this fool FORCED the umpire to check if it's a no-ball!!

  • @bertyblue yer i was there...

  • cricket looks easy when laxman is bating...

  • we ll watch even at 2021.....

  • 8 australians watched this video!

  • @losers638 or may be some porkis as well

  • the more u burden him...the better he performs...salute to the legend

  • Thumbs Up if you are still watching this in 2011

  • Stats and records do not do justice to this man. What Roger Federer is to tennis VVS Laxman is to batting in cricket. Such silken and effortless strokeplay. He along with Mahela Jayawardene show us how beautiful batting can be.

  • best innings i had ever see..touch of genius..

  • I bet when laxman got out everyone was like " bastard mcgrath". A v v special innings

  • when the chips are down in the face of adversity...a true hero rises and delivers.

  • what a player.probably best bowling best attacks in the world.. mcgrath, warne, gillespie, looks kidding...

  • salute this master of flicks ............

  • Epic Innings. this guy is the greatest player to play under Pressure. Hats off to him.

  • no cricketer can be born in this country even gavaskar or sachin they salute laxman because he is the master of tails which the other cricketrs in india cannot and will not do it or they cant do it if he is retired then indian test team shakes without their depender or the best middle order batsmen forever

  • good hard cricket..... Aussies coming hard @ the Indians & Indians not backing out..... stuff legends are made of......

i remember the eagle at by gillespie.... lol..... t'was fun.....

  • LOL YOU DONT SEE MATHEW HAYDEN BOWLING @ 8:29

  • What can I say...."I WAS THERE"....HAHAHAH

  • tony greig's commentary is just as beautiful as laxman's innings... what a character!!!

  • @ilayafan are you serious? he is a biased westerner if ever there was one.

  • 8 people are dilshan fans :P

  • "This place has come alive.." "Have a look at him (Kid in the gallery) He is loving every second it.." Oh Boy ! they are turning it on.. These words from Tony Graig were just great. perfectly suits the phenomenal fight back by VVS & Dravid. VVS is class apart.

  • Comment removed

  • I just keep coming back to this video. It had to be epic in Eden Gardens when the Aussies began to smell blood (the halfassed hook Greig makes a big deal about), then Gillespie forces an inside edge from Laxman...only to get belted for 3 quality boundaries in that same over.

  • And to prove how much we were struggling, Hayden and Langer bowled some overs.

  • As an Australian i was disgusted when i watched this live, but 10 years on i see this vid and remember how good an innings this was.

  • Oh. Man. I have been seeing this video perhaps 30th-40th time in last 1 year. Still it brings a sensational feeling every time. What a come back..!!! Force to follow on & then lost 2 early wickets, on the brink of an innings defeat, playing against the strongest Australian team of all time VVS & Dravid pulled it from an impossible situation. It is rare to see this kind of match. The against the spin & inside out strokes by VVS of Shane Warne deliveries were majestic.

  • the 8 dislikes must be from the fielding side.

  • Oh..This is just mesmerizing. I have been seeing this video here in youtube at least 30 times now, but still I feel like watching it again and again. There are no words to describe this VVS special. This innings changed the Test Cricket performance for India after this Test match. VVS is a legend, no matter if he did not succeed in the One day format. As Auusie great & captain in this match Steve Waugh said after this series "VVS Laxman stood between us & victory"

  • how many times this man has saved india we dont know,it is countless,he savd us by scoring 281 here,he made us win mohali tst, durban tst and colombo test last year, single handedly, i wonder what will india do when he will retire, ia ma sure they will loose the no.1 status instantly just like after hayden ,warne and mcgrath australia are sliding down,,india need to groom pujara ad mohd kaif prehaps to fill in shoes of dravid and laxman,,

  • Who are those tasteless ones who disliked this masterpiece ?

  • my god what an epic knock... truly sensational.. what drives, what flicks. what a wrist he has.. what a batsman.. the greatest innings in last 50 years .. this century equals sachins 100 century .. watched this video 100 times...only his 2 nd century makes 6 all time best in wisdons book ur god of cricket

  • VVS = Very Very Special

  • What an awesome player. Most of his innings are important ones. VVS is worth his weight in gold.

  • what a player!!!!!!!!!! no words to describe this innings...where the hell he came for this match.even after 100 or 200 years this innings ll stand top of the table and world will proudly pronounce this great innings, its a privillage for us to see this innings.. changed indian cricket ..finally innings from hands of god

  • The numbers 281 have acquired a sacred meaning to Indian cricket followers after this logically impossible knock. Indian cricket history can be classified into before 281 and after 281 and the latter phase undeniably the most successful era....all because a sinuous, willowy, symmetrical and beautiful as a brook batting by VVS-a man who signifies sublime. Indian Cricket should be eternally thankful for the cricketing Mozart for the best composition ever. In times to come this 281 will become best

  • 'The will of a single hero can breathe courage into the hearts of a million cowards' This is so true of this innings. Sachin was a coward. At the most important time he would get out. Dravid was so terrified of Warne he had to consult a psychiatrist. Ganguly only displayed his 'heroism' off the field in an uncouth manner like removing his shirt etc. It was after this innings that Indian cricket team began to exude confidence and are right now no,1 ranked test team.

  • @plato1socrates Why would you say Dravid was terrified?? He and Laxman together helped India post a good total and win the game. Both are skilled batsmen.

  • @plato1socrates - You are absolutely correct. It is after this epic innings the history of India's success in Test Cricket changed. Though Sachin & Dravid are also great batsmen but Laxaman's innings has always come in a winning cause. After this man match he has got his only MOM award of his carrer at Port of Spain where his batting helped India to win a Test match in West Indies after a long long time.

  • @plato1socrates u seems to have no knowledge when u say sachin is coward and dravid is terrified..give some respect to the guys who deserves it and remember one man cant win a game for u, its a team game mate..

  • australians r still thinking where laxman was born....................

  • One of the most respected players in Australia!

  • Australia should declare national holiday every year the day VVS LAXMAN retires from test cricket.

  • Salutes to this world class player. What an epic knock. I still remember this innings watching on TV in my college days. This innings was so special that it was choose to be the 2nd greatest innings ever played in Test cricket by Wisden. The 1st was by Don Bradman. What a class. Gives an impression of an Artist sketching a portrait with a paint brush. Comes at no 5 to bat with only the tale enders to follow him. He played this innings against the best bowling attack of that time.

  • I always loved Ian Chappell's def of a great player: A player who could turn around a match relatively quickly...doesn't that define Laxman given the number of match-winning and match saving innings he's played?

by far the most underrated batsman of our era

  • india retain its ranking 'coz of vvs laxman ,,its laxman who saves matches and also make losed matches win for india,,bot all credit is going to dhoni who did nothing ,nothing in his batting nothing in captainsy but no credit for vvs and no advertisement for vvs whyyy???

  • His name says it all: Very very Special Laxman. However, he still ends up getting the shaft from BCCI. Much underrated players gets a nod ahead of him.

  • 8:11 shows his class

  • @Rahul7293 Glad you pointed that out; I thought the same. Superb shot, considering he looked like he was getting into position to drive it on the on-side.

  • @Rahul7293 0:00 to 10:18 shows his class.

  • Damm you V.V.S Laxman lol. But this was the greatest innings I've ever seen, this coming from an Australian.

  • Gandhi's last words were: "Hey Ram.."

Ponting's last words would be: "Hey Laxman.."

  • @SeaofSongs looool u just made my day....

the silence when he gets out here is truly deafening, he's probably the most underrated player ever. india would really be nowhere without him let alone no. 1. We love you Laxman, keep em comin!

  • @hanz1utd I remember in 2003-2004 the pivotal role he played against Australia. I think he, Dravid, Ganguly and Sehwag all stood up and played excellent cricket for their country and almost won that series. In the end Ganguly made an awful decision to bat again without Australia following on, but it was still a great performance overall.

  • fuk de fukde india

  • one thing to say change his name...

    V V S i.e

    Very Very Special Laxman:P

  • He is born to torment the Australians. Ozzy's worst nightmare VVS.

  • And don't forget Harbhajan's bowling :D

  • THE MATCH THAT CHANGED INDIAN CRICKET FOREVER..THE TEAM THAT CHANGED THE INDIAN CRICKET FOREVER.................

  • Laxman > Sachin

  • I'm really appalled that no one here even mentions Dravid's 180+ that MADE VVS's epic innings POSSIBLE. PS GIVE EQUAL CREDIT TO THE WALL ALSO. His stellar innings came after a big lean trot and he gave his western critics a befitting reply with that innings.

  • @Ramachandra11 everyone knows about dravids innings too and we all know he's one of India's best batsman but his role in that match was more like supporting role for laxman while the winning innings in the match was this one and it was 100 runs more than dravid's innings anyway.

  • Comment removed

  • @youcantwrestle

I still believe that test match belonged to both the warriors Laxman and Dravid. Dravid's contribution CAN NEVER BE ERASED..

  • Greatest Test Match Ever!

  • Holy shit... You just name a single player who did that....

He was born for the AUSTRALIANS....!!!

  • i still remeber this innings... the greatest ever

  • This generation of cricket is now about to go. Laxman, Tendulkar, Dravid, will all be gone soon. Look at this match, arguably India's greatest Test victory ever. This was only Laxman's second century! He was 25; we need our current 25 year olds to do this - 10 years later it is still Laxman winning us Tests. The Rainas, Sharmas, Vijays now need to have these kind of defining knocks..otherwise we will only get bored of cricket once these guys are gone.

  • The best indian test player currently, better than that sachin tendulkar.

  • what a wristy work pleasure to watch laxman always

  • laxman is the crisis man for india . he gave support when most needed. really very very special laxman

  • im a pakistani but do bliev dat wen Laxman plays dat one beautyful cover drive, he luks evn more elegent dan Sachin, Lara n Ponting

  • What a great batsman..what a talent..its really a pleasure to see him play .He always plays match winning innings and contributed a lot for India's No.1 ranking in tests.Laxman with his unbeaten century on the final day he won the match and saved the series and helped us retain No.1 position. We Indian fans salute you man and will remember your contributions for rest of our lives.I hope he will continue playing for India for atleast 3 years to achive more test glories for India.

  • @anilbobbili i meant his contribition in the final test against srilanks in 2010...not only Laxman won the test for us but saved the series and helped usn retain No.1 Position in tests...He is really very very special!!

  • Steve waugh a man of few words had said 'he had never seen a batter as talented as VVS, when he bats river flows, shark dives , birds chirp and lion roars .... Laxman at his best is more soothing then the rest, sachin is god !

  • Whenever there is a cricinfo article rgding laxman..like today after his 3rd test winning innings against lanka..i come back to watch this epic innings. Takes me back to that day in 2001 when there was just me and a 20 inch tv in my grandfather's rural town in india ( i was on a vacation)..and i can remember exactly how i horded laxman to carry on and on..over by over. i know it sounds silly..but there would be many such stories from other indian cricket fans...

  • Laxman's wrists must be preserved in Cricket museum!

  • Greatest innings of all time.. This transformed and it is without any doubt that this innings is the turning point of the indian cricket to go on to achieve the No.1 ranking. Credit goes to Laxman even though dravid played one of his best knock..

  • All the time in the world.... love watching it

  • perhaps thats the only innings even laxman has produced isin't it. i agree it is a great knock, but those things just happen sometimes. that doesn't mean sachin is less and laxman is great. its only bad luck of sachin that bowlers never performed when he was at his peak. remember harbhajan bowled and only then india won. it never happened when sachin played. i am a hyderabadi but i always support sachin.

  • it is said fortune always favours the brave.it is one of the rarest occasions when india (especially laxman, dravid & harbhajan) played bravely and also when the aussies were not able to utilise the half chances they got which they always do to comeback into a game.thanks to the uploader but can u upload another piece of little better quality as it was little blurred somewhere in the middle of his innings.

  • a knock that went into the wisden knocks of the century, the knock that made ppl question is tendulkar really a genuis we all claim he is for he never come up with somthing like this, the one knock that made india win a test from a follow on thats very very special Laxman for you n his 281 :-)

    peace

  • all said and done .. please mention a few words of appreciation for dravids innings ... Laxman could not have scored his runs and india would not have the match had dravid got out cheaply

  • he made the aussies look mortal when they were gods. thats what set him apart from the rest.

  • Comment removed

  • bradman,great?????lol

    tendulkar???ok...err...no

    dravid??maybe...

    lara??oh...sometimes...

    ponting??hahahahaha :D XD

LAXMAN ROCKS.AND NOTHING ELSE MATTERS!! \vvs/

  • made against a side that was 17-0 comprising Mcgrath, Gillespie, Warne and Kasprowicz.

  • what an innings an innings of life time achievement... a cricketers dream to play such an kind of innings.....no matter scoring n number of centuries innings like this one equals all records and even sachin ll amaze wathching this century truly its a previlage for us watch this innings we r very lucky to this

  • The innings that single-handedly resuscitated Indian cricket....Sachin might score 50 test 100's and Sehwag will one day score a 400 but even they would look at this VVS special with awe and feel privileged. Surely one of the enthralling turning points in the history, not just Indian, of cricket.

  • @Voltairec

    absolutely correct

  • @Voltairec very true buddy

  • pure class !!!!!!!!!!! better than sachin

  • wow what an innings!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this innings was played before ten years but i can remember in mind!!!!!!!!11 probably one of the greatest innings in the history of cricket.the innings changed the indian cricket wow no words to describe!!!!!!!!!!! best century ever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

  • 8:10 wht a shot!!!!!!!!

  • What an incredible inning. I remeber listening to this on ABC radio at the age of 12, even over the wireless, I have never been so enthralled by an innings like his

  • Laxman murdered the redneck racist aussie fags

  • oh god this match was amazing ..after showing a dismal perfomance in the 1st innings by india..all indian fans like abused the team and all the players as every 1 knows how cricketer are put high in the air even if they win vs zimbabwe and leave u when u lose... but when laxman made 50,10,15,20 then we had a hope that we could draw this match

but look what happened we have won the match omg

  • This Test proved that aussies could be beaten!

  • let's not forget RAHUL DRAVID and HARBHAJAN SINGH'S contribution in this match. Especially Harbhajan who took 32 wickets in this series

  • VVS Laxman has too many initials

  • @avfc0589 well...he is Very Very Special!

  • @qwerty10113 Lol, good one.

  • An amazing innings, to win an amazing test match.

  • Comment removed

  • the knock that changed the face of Indian cricket

  • Great knock by a great batsman.

    And a great match also.

What a fabulous comeback by the Indian team..............

Third team ever to win a test match after being forced to follow-on..........

  • Best innings ever played in test cricket.

  • one would find a lot of innings' which changed the course of a test match. but rarely would one find an innings like this that turned the course of the series

  • the reason this series and 2005 ashes are immortal is because both came against a full strength aus lineup..

  • An innings even GODS watched from the HEAVEN......

  • @ronak918

    very true

  • Epic innings is EPIC

  • David Hookes...

  • Ever since that Test, India has a superb win-loss record. In fact, India is leading Australia 7-5, since this test (inclusive).

  • The innings that changed the Indian cricket.

  • @nonamechannel very true!!

  • @nonamechannel sooo true soooo soooo true

  • @nonamechannel not just Indian Cricket , it changed the world cricket , this man challenged the Australians and see their situation now in 2010 , credit goes to Laxman.

  • Not just the Indian Cricket man....the innings that changed the law of 'Follow-on'.

  • This inning was VVS (very very special). With Steve Waugh he got one of the best batting stance. Very stylish.

  • I really hope you meant "Mark" and not "Steve"

  • This was almost as bad as losing to England

  • T20 can never compare with Test cricket ! This innings is a purist's delight.

  • lol, tony greig..

  • matthew hayden bowling from 8:25 WOW!

  • @aiser009 Steve Waugh and Gilchrist were the only players who didn't bowl.

  • lol at 2:29 Dada laughing about almost getting hit in the nuts...Dada was the best!!

  • Steve Waugh's series winning 200 in Kingston in 1995 ended WI domination in cricket for around 2 decades.

Laxman's great 281* here showed for the first time that Aussie dominance could be challenged with quality cricket.

For matching fire with fire, providing the true definition of spirit and grit, Steve Waugh and VVS Laxman would always be immortalised in cricket. BCCI's treatment of Laxman was never fair, to be honest!

  • Definitely! And I believe he and Tendulkar showed that in the 2003 series in Australia. Not to mention the amazing contributions of Dravid, Sehwag and Ganguly. I think India are always a chance in terms of bringing the world's strongest sides to their knees.
