Roy Halladay is arguably the best pitcher the Phillies have ever had. Cliff Lee won 2 games against the Yankees but then again, he lost 2 games with Texas against the Giants including the fact he gave up 10 runs in 1 inning. People thought Phillies (my home team) were going to be undefeated but no team in MLB has ever been 180-0 ever. I think the best record is 134-46.
i know what you are sayin, but roy halladay can do things cliff lee cannot, clif lee needs full rest in order for his next start, the phillies needed that badly last year as cole hamels is the same if not more of a diva when it comes to his rest. roy hallday will pitch on 3-4 days rest no questions asked.
man if anyone or anything is a wash, it's lee. If Halladay stopped playing ball right now he would still get into the hall of fame. The phillies don't even deserve him
@cffi429 Lol. I never said exchanging the pitchers were a wash. We know Halladay is lightyears better! My question is if the team and pitching staff as a whole will perform better. One man doesn't make a staff, we'll see by November! Thanks for writing!
@JRSportBrief With all the injuries and inconsistency the phillies have had this year, Roy Halladay has been a presence of stability. He pretty much naturalizes this years team as a true contender. He has pitched like a beast all year round. If he wasn't here right now the phillies would be trailing the braves for sure. This is why i give him team mvp and should be cy young this year. Give him some NL mvp votes as well but i hope votto wins it.
Congrats to Roy Halladay for pitching the 20th Perfect Game in MLB History today on May 29th, 2010, awesome stuff, hey JR you should make a follow up video honoring this amazing milestone, also 1st time since 1880 that 2 pitchers pitched Perfect games in the same MLB season, also if you remember Dallas Braden pitched a Perfect game for the A's earlier this month on Mother's Day, this is such an amazing milestone.
JR you seriously should consider covering another sport than baseball. Roy Halladay is hands down the best pitcher the game has seen in some time. The Phillies have aquired a true ace. Before you state the trade a "Wash" do your research.
Can't believe the jays traded him but heyy you know what when I think about it Im kind of happy that the doc left because I know he is the best pitcher in baseball
today and has the potential to be one of the greatest of all time ranking atleast in the
smash the record books. His .660 winning percentage already stands
18th all time and that's playing with a team that has yet to make the
playoffs since their 1993 World Series Championship over the "Phillies"
lol. He has won the Cy Young, was the runner up probably 2 years in a row
2008 and2009. The rest of the numbers including complete games and shutouts, when compared to other more popular pitchers such as Johan Sontana, speak for itself
yo JR, Roy is just so much better than Lee or anybody else in the league right now. he keeps his level for almost 10 + years now, and he is getting stronger in the NL right now since there is no DL anymore. he can get anybody out at anything time. but the most amazing thing is that Roy can go 8 or 9 endings almost every time. basically, when he starts, you only need one more closer, then the game is over. he is going to be so good in NL, just like play with some kids. lol!
i think that halladay will influence the younger pitchers like Hamels and Kendrick to work harder and play better, it helps to have an amazing athlete there to give advice and motivate you
I'm from Toronto and I'll let you know that Roy Halladay is the baddest mothafu*&^% in the Majors. This guy is a machine. Best pitcher is Baseball. Hands down.
You think Manuel is going to question putting Halladay out there on short rest in the World Series the way he did Lee? Don't count on it. If the Phils make it back you'll be seeing Halladay in games 1, 4, and if it comes down to it...the deciding game 7. That's why Halladay>>>Lee.
How much better is Halladay than Lee??? LOL.... waaaaaaaay better. You guys have no clue how good this man is. As a Blue Jays fan I can tell you Halladay runs circles around Lee... he's a poor man's halladay. Halladay is built like a brick shithouse while Lee is a very fragile pitcher. Durability over unpredictability.
Phillies traded Cliff Lee because he was asking for a lot more than it would cost for Halladay. Also Halladay may now stay for 3+ seasons when Cliff Lee would of mostly had to leave next year.. if they kept him this year. I think it's a better trade and will help the Phillies. J.R....great analysis. I think u should replace Tony Kornheiser on Pardon the Interuption. Wilbon will kill you on the fact that the Cubs are greater...(tounge in cheek)

I would love to have seen Halladay, Lee, and a good Hamels on the same rotation, because Cliff Lee is something else
I think its a shame for Cliff Lee. From watching every game he pitched as a Phillie, you can tell that he loved batting(and was pretty good at it) and he loved being a winner. I hope he does well in Seattle, but that team is going nowhere.
Cliff Lee is no Roy Halladay. Halladay is a once in a generation pitcher. He is the best SP in MLB. People forget he pitched his entire career so far in the AL East during the Yankee/Red Sox dynasty years and one a CY Young award doing it. I'd like to see if Lee/Lincecum/Greinke could put up the same numbers as Halladay did last season while facing the Red Sox or Yankees 10 times as Halladay did. Lets not forget he 1 hit the Red Sox and Yankees in the same month last year (Sept).
I honestly don't think this will make Phillies better and here's why. Even though I do think that Halladay is better than Lee, how many more games is he really going to win over Lee like 2 or 3. Was it really worth the extra 11 million dollars and giving up better prospects? They probably could've signed Lee for around 14-16 million for a few more years. Even though Halladay is the better pitcher that doesn't mean Lee can't produce the same results. This is just over doing it a tad bit imo.
It isn't a question of whether the Phillies will be better this as much as it is a question of whether the Phillies will be better 2,3,4 more years down the road. The Phillies would have had Lee for one more year before he demanded Sabbathia money, and with their payroll, they would have chosen not to. Overall, this was the right move for the Phillies.
toronto is gonna hav like 51 wins in the 2010 season, beleive me i live in toronto i know the shitty blue jays, and srry JR im against u...now that the phillies hav roy halladay, i think theyll kick ass and win the world series again in the 2010 season, just sayin man, but its kul JR, its kul, u make a good point about the phillies too...and i love it how u figure out all this news about baseball, baseball is my life dream, i have always wanted to become an MLB player, anyways, see ya, PEACE!!!
sucks for Lee puts up a 1.50 era in postseason and i believe a complete game and world series, wat more does he have to do to keep his job? goes from cleveland to philly to win one world series and now hes on another mediocre seattle team
Roy Halladay is the best pitcher on the planet. People forget that up until Cliff Lee joined the Phillies he NEVER pitched in the post season. Halladay's goal IS to pitch in the post season. plus, he is a ground ball pitcher which is what is needed at CBP. dont fret Phillies fans...we'll all miss Cliff Lee, but you havent seen anything the likes of what Roy Halladay brings to the table
Halladay and Lee are a wash. You're right in that respect, if only because of Halladay's age. But the Phillies will be better because they now finally have a pure #2 hitter, Polanco, who will allow the free swingers, Rollins and Victorino, to not have to bat #1 and 2 in the lineup. Victorino will get more to hit batting 6th, and the speed in the lineup will be spread out. Also, their bullpen will be better because it couldn't possibly get more banged up than it was in '09.
really this deal is pretty good and ppl don't remember the first half of the season we had horrible pitching and manage to keep the lead in the NL East then we got Lee and just added more fuel to the fire really the phillies are going to be strong again this deal isn't now wash
why? they've cleared big salaries (rios, ryan, rolen, halladay) and set the table for a new gm. hes already cleaned house in the scouting deparment and hired all new scouts and said ownership is ready to spend big (boston money, not ny) their just waiting for the right players so it doesn't end up like it just did w/ ryan and rios. with paul beeston at the helm you can never lose hope.
thats it. anthoupolous has since aquired one of the games most promising young arms and has publically stated that the team has 16 million to spend on next years draft. thats huge. even with strasburg washington only spent 11 million on their pickss in 2009. no, their not messing around anymore and its all because of beeston. godfrey was a terrible president.
Halladay is better than Cliff Lee. A lot better. Roy put up 2.70 ERA's in the AL East pitching 40% of his starts against Boston, New York, and Tampa Bay. Put him in the NL and he is going to put up Pedro/Maddux in their prime type numbers (if he stays healthy). Phillies made the right move.
Halliday IMO is better then Lee. He has pitched in by far a tougher division his entire career then Lee has. He has put up great numbers compared to Lee vs. both Red Sox and Yankees over the last 7 seasons. Halliday is a work horse, eats up innings and saves on the bullpen. Is it a wash that Lee is gone and Halliday is there...maybe? but the bottom line is that Halliday has been better then Lee for a longer period of time in a tougher division.
but what can I say he's not getting any younger and he sure deserves to be with a better team and phillies has a great potential to be in the World series again.
I'm not sure how Roy is gonna turn out in his first career in NL but then most pitchers from AL do well in NL anyways...
Phillies made right decision to Sign Halladay to long yr contract and let CLee go.. Phillies can't affort to keep both like Yankees so If they had to choose one THis is right decision!!! Talent wise I think Halladay is lbetter and also Phillies need RHP depth in rotation..
Halliday = best pitcher in baseball.....he was the only reason to go to the Rogers Centre the last decade....You Phillies fans will see.....hope he goes to 'the HOF' in a Jays uniform!
i think its a bad trade for the phillies. roy halladay eats innings but sometimes gives up alot of runs. i think halladay of course is going to be good, just not as good as cliff lee was when he played against the mets. and thats all i care about.
I dont think it's wash dawg roy halladay along side the offence the phillies have in the weaker National league... The phillies will be very tough to beat, especially every 5th game when doc halladay is on the mound!
halladay is the best pitcher in the majors he leads almost every major stat in pitching in the last 5 years and lee might have only been here for 1 year then he would be gone maybe so i think its a good deal for the phils. basically we upgraded third base and our ace plus toronto is going to pay 6 million of halladays contract this year and i expect the phils to upgrade the bullpen with that money so its looking good for the phils
He will also eat alot of innings which is good. And when you People in PHILLY see how he can Just complete a game in under 2 hour might not seem possible , well look no further that is the Doc. I will miss watching him but now i would like to watch more philly games. Good luck Doc we loved having you(hogging) But Go do what you do best . Be the best Pitcher in all of MLB. you will be missed Good luck
It aint a wash roy halladay is the best pitcher in baseball. He's pitched his 12 year career in the toughest division in baseball. In he will dominate the NL. 22-3 ERA 2.65 NL CY YOUNG no doubt phillies win world series.
M-E-T-S we suck, i mean seriously man we arent doin nething, I talked to Gary Cohen and he says its time to rebuild, it hurts and screw the philliies!
i think that this is a good deal. because we would not get lee for a third year and we got halladay for 3 years plus an option. so basicly this is a pretty good deal. now the bad thing is that we didn't get both, and that we traded our prospects and now the mariners are getting stronger. but over all this is a good deal.
Expect 22-25 wins from Halladay. He has the best work ethic in all of baseball. In the NL with no Tampa Red Soxs or Yankees in the division plus the best offense in Philly halladay will dominate. over the course of a full season you will see Lee for Halladay is not a wash. Thanks Halladay for the memories and get that ring. As for Toronto fans we got a few good prospects in return to add onto Hill Lind Snider Remero Cecil and Marcum.
The main reason they decided to make the trade appears to be simply the fact that Halladay is right-handed. Basically all of their starters are currently left-handed, so they rarely have the platoon advantage. Having a right-handed ace should improve their rotation somewhat, although who knows how much.
Look Jr I honestly think at this point of time roy halladay is the best picther in baseball.but for more reasons then just his work on the mound.I mean your making everyone in that club house that much better when u have a guy of his caliber join a team.He is gona teach alot of people picthers on that team some things, he also picthes in one of the hardest divsions in baseball.this is a STEAL I bet there bullpin is Much better this season..... team era will be down and it will be because of him.
i believe cliff lee is a better pitcher... he didnt have a bad start with the phils.. halladay had such a bad half n he is gunna ask for a crazy contract... sure hes a horse but i believe hes gunna be a bust...
You're retarded. Cliff Lee is not better then Roy Halladay. Halladay is the best pitcher in the league and despite what cliff did for us I say he's no where close to being as good as halladay.
Don't get me wrong, Lee is an amazing pitcher but after his 08 year, he went 7-9 with Cleveland, then traded to phillies then bounced back. He still has yet to prove his consistency. Halladay is the proven ace for over 6 years, his stats and experience proves he is better than Cliff Lee. It is much harder to keep amazing stats over a period of 6 years(Roy) then amazing stats over 1.5 years(Lee). Not to mention Roy pitched in unquestionably the hardest division in baseball and maybe all sports.
Halladay having his stats and pitching against the AL east his entire 12 year career, it is simply amazing. The really special thing about Halladay is that he finishes games. He has been leading the MLB in complete games and innings played for the past 6 years. Halladay's addition to the Phillies not so great bullpen(without lee) is going to be a great asset. After the season starts it won't be long till everyone in Philly will be on the Halladay bandwagon and forget Lee.
Halladay won't make much noise. he's getting older. Watch us nail him when we're healthy. We need a bat with B+ pitcher. Go Mets. BTW, the Yankees are still better than Boston.
yankees where not even close to stopping Roy Halladay, so thinking the mets will be able to is...silly to put it in a nice way. The only concern is that Roy Halladay getting injured while batting or Running.
excited to get Halladay but sad to see Lee go...and Lee hit better tahn some of are bench players lmao...wish him best of luck though, and happy Brown and Drabek arent goin anywhere
The thing is, Cliff Lee wanted more money and he may have not signed with the Phillies since this is his contract year. As we speak, the Phillies and Halladay are negotiating on a contract extention to ensure him for 4-5 years. Halladay will also take less money than Lee since he will do anything to get on a winning team. The real losers of this deal are the Angels and the NL East contenders.
Toronto got such a shit deal, seattle and phillies get 2 amazing pitchers and Toronto just gets a few prospects that will probably suck. But the deal isn't official so just have to wait and see what toronto gets for sure.
Roy Halladay is the starting day pitcher no matter where he plays whether its the yankees or the mets. The phillies need to get better supporting staff if this deal gets done which a hope it does.
You obviously havent seen halladay do his work as a bluejay/Phillie fan i really dont care where halladay plays as long its those two teams i would hate to see him play for the yankees or the red sox. Roy Halladay is putting up Cy young caliber stats almost every year with a team like the blue jays so u can bet that he is going to win the 2010 Cy Young u can take my word for it. even though it doesnt really count for much.Roy is 10X better than Cliff Lee.
i think it is a wash. but the phillies are likely a front runner to return to the world series again. The mets better hope halladay fails his physical.
As u saw this past world series the phillies had no1 except cliff to give them a class start. U know roy is going to be doing that all year. If roy can put no. such he did in his career with a mediocre batting staffin toronto u know he is going to just kill it if this deal gets done, it impossible that roy goes a bust. he is winning the 2010 cy young guaranteed. so ya the phillies really do need roy halladay, and a decent supporting crew behing roy halladay.
Maybe talent wise it's a wash but Cliff Lee wasn't going to extend and wants to test FA and Halladay has said that he would sign with the phillies for a less price (like 100m / 5years)
As a mariners fan I'm wondering who we gave up..but we def are looking solid with Felix / Lee as our 1-2
Roy Halladay is arguably the best pitcher the Phillies have ever had.

I think its a shame for Cliff Lee. From watching every game he pitched as a Phillie, you can tell that he loved batting(and was pretty good at it) and he loved being a winner. I hope he does well in Seattle, but that team is going nowhere.
BAdams421 2 years ago
I am pretty sure with the Angels getting worse, that the Mariners are one of the favorites if not THE favorite to win the west this year.
docisin32 2 years ago
Cliff Lee is no Roy Halladay. Halladay is a once in a generation pitcher. He is the best SP in MLB. People forget he pitched his entire career so far in the AL East during the Yankee/Red Sox dynasty years and one a CY Young award doing it. I'd like to see if Lee/Lincecum/Greinke could put up the same numbers as Halladay did last season while facing the Red Sox or Yankees 10 times as Halladay did. Lets not forget he 1 hit the Red Sox and Yankees in the same month last year (Sept).
docisin32 2 years ago
yes!!!! cliff lee is a mariner!!!! Mariners rock!!!!
joeb1963 2 years ago
I honestly don't think this will make Phillies better and here's why. Even though I do think that Halladay is better than Lee, how many more games is he really going to win over Lee like 2 or 3. Was it really worth the extra 11 million dollars and giving up better prospects? They probably could've signed Lee for around 14-16 million for a few more years. Even though Halladay is the better pitcher that doesn't mean Lee can't produce the same results. This is just over doing it a tad bit imo.
wontontonton 2 years ago
It isn't a question of whether the Phillies will be better this as much as it is a question of whether the Phillies will be better 2,3,4 more years down the road. The Phillies would have had Lee for one more year before he demanded Sabbathia money, and with their payroll, they would have chosen not to. Overall, this was the right move for the Phillies.

toronto is gonna hav like 51 wins in the 2010 season, beleive me i live in toronto i know the shitty blue jays, and srry JR im against u...now that the phillies hav roy halladay, i think theyll kick ass and win the world series again in the 2010 season, just sayin man, but its kul JR, its kul, u make a good point about the phillies too...and i love it how u figure out all this news about baseball, baseball is my life dream, i have always wanted to become an MLB player, anyways, see ya, PEACE!!!
nadroj53 2 years ago
if cole hamels is good as he was in the 2008 postseason we have a good chance to get back to the world series
Aphizzle15 2 years ago
sucks for Lee puts up a 1.50 era in postseason and i believe a complete game and world series, wat more does he have to do to keep his job? goes from cleveland to philly to win one world series and now hes on another mediocre seattle team
gamingod7539 2 years ago
Roy Halladay is the best pitcher on the planet. People forget that up until Cliff Lee joined the Phillies he NEVER pitched in the post season. Halladay's goal IS to pitch in the post season. plus, he is a ground ball pitcher which is what is needed at CBP. dont fret Phillies fans...we'll all miss Cliff Lee, but you havent seen anything the likes of what Roy Halladay brings to the table
andydrums215 2 years ago
Halladay and Lee are a wash. You're right in that respect, if only because of Halladay's age. But the Phillies will be better because they now finally have a pure #2 hitter, Polanco, who will allow the free swingers, Rollins and Victorino, to not have to bat #1 and 2 in the lineup. Victorino will get more to hit batting 6th, and the speed in the lineup will be spread out. Also, their bullpen will be better because it couldn't possibly get more banged up than it was in '09.

is this guy jimmy rollins?
dylf14 2 years ago 11
really this deal is pretty good and ppl don't remember the first half of the season we had horrible pitching and manage to keep the lead in the NL East then we got Lee and just added more fuel to the fire really the phillies are going to be strong again this deal isn't now wash
phillyphan547 2 years ago
@phillyphan547 Toronto got fleeced. Halladay is beyond amazing, hes a prodigy
kidkappa04 2 years ago
I'm actually afraid that the Toronto Blue Jays are screwed
Theopinionguy 2 years ago
why? they've cleared big salaries (rios, ryan, rolen, halladay) and set the table for a new gm. hes already cleaned house in the scouting deparment and hired all new scouts and said ownership is ready to spend big (boston money, not ny) their just waiting for the right players so it doesn't end up like it just did w/ ryan and rios. with paul beeston at the helm you can never lose hope.
kidkappa04 2 years ago
@kidkappa04 I like your optimistic view on this you've sort of opened my eyes to new hope. Maybe we're looking at improvement after all
Theopinionguy 2 years ago
thats it. anthoupolous has since aquired one of the games most promising young arms and has publically stated that the team has 16 million to spend on next years draft. thats huge. even with strasburg washington only spent 11 million on their pickss in 2009. no, their not messing around anymore and its all because of beeston. godfrey was a terrible president.
kidkappa04 2 years ago
they had to make the deal. Cliff would have tested the market and been gone after the year. We now have Halladay for the next 4 or 5 years.
JAH8686 2 years ago
phillies did a great move. i think they have a great chance to win the world series. GO PHILLIES!!!!

PhillyPhan719 2 years ago 3
It is the right decision for any team to sign Roy Halladay. He is the greatest pitcher this decade.
gaminkalv 2 years ago 2
I really think this deal depends on if Cole Hamels returns to his form of 08
MrFlyerGuy 2 years ago
Halladay is better than Cliff Lee. A lot better. Roy put up 2.70 ERA's in the AL East pitching 40% of his starts against Boston, New York, and Tampa Bay. Put him in the NL and he is going to put up Pedro/Maddux in their prime type numbers (if he stays healthy). Phillies made the right move.
skk1200 2 years ago
@skk1200
But the arguement is, Cliff Lee put up a 1.50 ERA in the playoffs.
mychem4396 2 years ago
sorry Halladay, not Halliday...haven't had my coffee yet today!
tennisbutts 2 years ago
Halliday IMO is better then Lee. He has pitched in by far a tougher division his entire career then Lee has. He has put up great numbers compared to Lee vs. both Red Sox and Yankees over the last 7 seasons. Halliday is a work horse, eats up innings and saves on the bullpen. Is it a wash that Lee is gone and Halliday is there...maybe? but the bottom line is that Halliday has been better then Lee for a longer period of time in a tougher division.
tennisbutts 2 years ago
we're gonna miss Doc for sure here in T.
but what can I say he's not getting any younger and he sure deserves to be with a better team and phillies has a great potential to be in the World series again.
I'm not sure how Roy is gonna turn out in his first career in NL but then most pitchers from AL do well in NL anyways...
We'll mee u Roy~~~~
sungdynasty82 2 years ago
Phillies made right decision to Sign Halladay to long yr contract and let CLee go.. Phillies can't affort to keep both like Yankees so If they had to choose one THis is right decision!!! Talent wise I think Halladay is lbetter and also Phillies need RHP depth in rotation..
NewYorkNYKer 2 years ago
Halliday = best pitcher in baseball.....he was the only reason to go to the Rogers Centre the last decade....You Phillies fans will see.....hope he goes to 'the HOF' in a Jays uniform!
oattoaster 2 years ago
i think its a bad trade for the phillies. roy halladay eats innings but sometimes gives up alot of runs. i think halladay of course is going to be good, just not as good as cliff lee was when he played against the mets. and thats all i care about.
afreaka94 2 years ago
I dont think it's wash dawg roy halladay along side the offence the phillies have in the weaker National league... The phillies will be very tough to beat, especially every 5th game when doc halladay is on the mound!
George2010ish 2 years ago
u kind of look like jimmy rollins
philiesrock72 2 years ago 3
halladay is the best pitcher in the majors he leads almost every major stat in pitching in the last 5 years and lee might have only been here for 1 year then he would be gone maybe so i think its a good deal for the phils. basically we upgraded third base and our ace plus toronto is going to pay 6 million of halladays contract this year and i expect the phils to upgrade the bullpen with that money so its looking good for the phils
IRemainSick 2 years ago
yes you did get ONE of the best pitchers in the MLB he is a slump stopper that will win it for you when your team is down and out.!
esperanza2005 2 years ago
He will also eat alot of innings which is good. And when you People in PHILLY see how he can Just complete a game in under 2 hour might not seem possible , well look no further that is the Doc. I will miss watching him but now i would like to watch more philly games. Good luck Doc we loved having you(hogging) But Go do what you do best . Be the best Pitcher in all of MLB. you will be missed Good luck

cliff lee is better in the playoffs but halladay is much better in season

Ah but Halladay has never tasted the playoffs which is why he patiently and politely asked for a trade.
elmntx32 2 years ago
true, true
lilbigmac1235 2 years ago
It aint a wash roy halladay is the best pitcher in baseball. He's pitched his 12 year career in the toughest division in baseball. In he will dominate the NL. 22-3 ERA 2.65 NL CY YOUNG no doubt phillies win world series.

M-E-T-S we suck, i mean seriously man we arent doin nething, I talked to Gary Cohen and he says its time to rebuild, it hurts and screw the philliies!
Fruityloops17 2 years ago
i think that this is a good deal. because we would not get lee for a third year and we got halladay for 3 years plus an option. so basicly this is a pretty good deal. now the bad thing is that we didn't get both, and that we traded our prospects and now the mariners are getting stronger. but over all this is a good deal.
monstrmigit 2 years ago
DAMMIT.
METALGEAR218 2 years ago

thefightinphillies13 2 years ago
lee didnt want an extension, so its either 1 year of lee, or 4-5 years with halladay
ilovedisney14 2 years ago
Way more excited about Cliff Lee going to Seattle.
scandiumtrioxide 2 years ago
Expect 22-25 wins from Halladay. He has the best work ethic in all of baseball. In the NL with no Tampa Red Soxs or Yankees in the division plus the best offense in Philly halladay will dominate. over the course of a full season you will see Lee for Halladay is not a wash. Thanks Halladay for the memories and get that ring. As for Toronto fans we got a few good prospects in return to add onto Hill Lind Snider Remero Cecil and Marcum.
Leafsplayoffs 2 years ago 4
Exactly My point
The911Venom 2 years ago
The main reason they decided to make the trade appears to be simply the fact that Halladay is right-handed. Basically all of their starters are currently left-handed, so they rarely have the platoon advantage. Having a right-handed ace should improve their rotation somewhat, although who knows how much.
Tengoshi 2 years ago
Hey dude, they did this deal because Lee wouldn't sign an extension. So what does our GM of the year do? He trades him for the best SP in the league.
BNelley244 2 years ago
no i think he traded FOR the best pitcher in the league in halladay
just look up the numbers (oh and consider the fact that the jays are a crappy team and give him no support)

Wr3cKLeSz 2 years ago
You're retarded. Cliff Lee is not better then Roy Halladay. Halladay is the best pitcher in the league and despite what cliff did for us I say he's no where close to being as good as halladay.
A7XFANFORLIFE1 2 years ago 3
Don't get me wrong, Lee is an amazing pitcher but after his 08 year, he went 7-9 with Cleveland, then traded to phillies then bounced back. He still has yet to prove his consistency. Halladay is the proven ace for over 6 years, his stats and experience proves he is better than Cliff Lee. It is much harder to keep amazing stats over a period of 6 years(Roy) then amazing stats over 1.5 years(Lee). Not to mention Roy pitched in unquestionably the hardest division in baseball and maybe all sports.
gaminkalv 2 years ago
Halladay having his stats and pitching against the AL east his entire 12 year career, it is simply amazing. The really special thing about Halladay is that he finishes games. He has been leading the MLB in complete games and innings played for the past 6 years. Halladay's addition to the Phillies not so great bullpen(without lee) is going to be a great asset. After the season starts it won't be long till everyone in Philly will be on the Halladay bandwagon and forget Lee.
gaminkalv 2 years ago
Halladay won't make much noise. he's getting older. Watch us nail him when we're healthy. We need a bat with B+ pitcher. Go Mets. BTW, the Yankees are still better than Boston.
TalkNewYorkSports 2 years ago
yankees where not even close to stopping Roy Halladay, so thinking the mets will be able to is...silly to put it in a nice way. The only concern is that Roy Halladay getting injured while batting or Running.
The911Venom 2 years ago 3
excited to get Halladay but sad to see Lee go...and Lee hit better tahn some of are bench players lmao...wish him best of luck though, and happy Brown and Drabek arent goin anywhere
SUSP3CT609 2 years ago
The thing is, Cliff Lee wanted more money and he may have not signed with the Phillies since this is his contract year. As we speak, the Phillies and Halladay are negotiating on a contract extention to ensure him for 4-5 years. Halladay will also take less money than Lee since he will do anything to get on a winning team. The real losers of this deal are the Angels and the NL East contenders.
rgreenberg35 2 years ago
If the Phillies traed Drabek... im not happy with this deal! Other than that... who cares bout the mets =) haha GO PHILS!!!

Roy Halladay is the starting day pitcher no matter where he plays whether its the yankees or the mets. The phillies need to get better supporting staff if this deal gets done which a hope it does.
The911Venom 2 years ago
You obviously havent seen halladay do his work as a bluejay/Phillie fan i really dont care where halladay plays as long its those two teams i would hate to see him play for the yankees or the red sox. Roy Halladay is putting up Cy young caliber stats almost every year with a team like the blue jays so u can bet that he is going to win the 2010 Cy Young u can take my word for it. even though it doesnt really count for much.Roy is 10X better than Cliff Lee.

JR the Question is does philly need him?
johnsurfkiller 2 years ago
dont mind i answer this for u
As u saw this past world series the phillies had no1 except cliff to give them a class start. U know roy is going to be doing that all year. If roy can put no. such he did in his career with a mediocre batting staffin toronto u know he is going to just kill it if this deal gets done, it impossible that roy goes a bust. he is winning the 2010 cy young guaranteed. so ya the phillies really do need roy halladay, and a decent supporting crew behing roy halladay.
The911Venom 2 years ago
damn it. I wanted the Yankees to get him.
megadeth232 2 years ago
Roy Halladay comes at a cheaper price. ESPN reported that he agreed to a 5 yr ext for 100 mil. I guess Cliff Lee wants CC Sabathia type of money.
Its a good deal for phillies.
bmums311 2 years ago
Maybe talent wise it's a wash but Cliff Lee wasn't going to extend and wants to test FA and Halladay has said that he would sign with the phillies for a less price (like 100m / 5years)
As a mariners fan I'm wondering who we gave up..but we def are looking solid with Felix / Lee as our 1-2
