Meh. Lots of smoke, some decent drifting, but its all show. I'm sure he's a good stick, but driving like that I could trounce him on the clock in a similarly pumped 'Vette with some good Khumos that actually grip the asphalt.
It's a real sport but he is just having fun here. The gymkhanas I have seen are much tighter courses and are all about skill and not power. Lots of super narrow cones you have to squeeze through and things like 3 point turns and places you have to use the handbrake. I did it a couple times in my old modded honda civic.
While it may be a real "sport" (define sport) I've never liked it beyond mildly interesting show. How can you imperically judge a winner? It's too subjective on who felt who drifted enough or made enough smoke. Give me a good 'ole race any day.
I'm talking about gymkhana not drifting. Gymkhana usually has time involved. They usually consist of a very tight course that must be navigated a certain way. Some even require you to go backwards through certain gates. The gymkhanas I have seen don't have judges. Gymkhanas are still a race, they are just very strange races.
But I agree, drifting is essentially figure skating for cars...

Gymkhanas/autotests require a lot of skill, more so than most other types of motorsport.
