American Staffs are not banned in the UK. APTs and "APT crosses" are officially banned, but the concept of a "pitbull" is so ill defined that you still see people walking around with APTs in open view. No one can even define what a "pittbull" type is and the government have all but given up on regulating the issue.

As usual, the ban was another politically motivated legislation which has turned out to be nothing but a joke in practice.

Read Section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991. It prohibits four types of dog:

1. Pit Bull Terrier

2. Japanese Tosa

3. Dogo Argentino

4. Fila Brasileiro

Notice that the American Staffordshire Bull Terrier is NOT on the list. Also notice that I own a fully registered and chipped Am Staff. It is REGISTERED as an Am Staff and banned dogs are not allowed to be registered.

American Staffordshire Bull Terrier are NOT banned in the UK and many people own them. Your "AmStaff" must have been a mongrel crossed with a pittbull. Pitbull crosses are banned, even a pit x poodle would be illegal in the UK and not get past customs.
