  • @imgangster88 couldn't have said it better myself

  • about staying up at night doings things that excite you, it's almost 6AM and i've been watching your videos for the majority of the night - just discovered this channel and i love it!

  • Poor use of your time? Creativity flows out of the most simple things in life. Complicated minds cant be creative, you need freedom for that. A free mind.

Simple tasks like cleaning a toilet can help to focus on the moment more.

  • Not only do I love CD Baby, but what Derek says is so near to my heart. I need to just do what I get lost in, making music. The money gets me down. I feel stymied, but all the other stuff.

  • Hey Buddy!

It's always great to hear from Derek.

WILD AMERICAN SHERIFF my new Cd is something I'm going to work with Ariel any time now and looking forward to it, with the video also coming out soon.

  • Hi Ariel :-) Just wanted to say hello... i'm looking forward to working together.

    -Rochelle.

  • Great to meet you today & great insite.

I've had myspace, youtube, Facebook and twitter and had no idea what to do with them.

I've linked some sites together, but not all.

    Now I know it's possible.

I've have vids, music, performence, but without someone to ride with you,it's a grind.Still have total faith in myself, but has anyone else?

Oh what fun it is to play!

    Thank you Ariel.

    Cheers,

    Shane.

  • So nice to hear and see Derek. Thanks for sharing your info too beautiful Ariel :)

  • thanks so much for posting this video!

oh and I learned something new, it's are-e-all publicity. not, ariel publicity. except, it IS ariel publicity. see?

  • this was great affirmation of wot i'm workin on; 2 hold still 2 my passsion but also make meaningful frenz & dev a crew of ppl that share a similar passion! ariel + derek, many thnx!

  • OK..All this info...2 years ago I had a day job and worked on my music much as I can. Now I'm on disability, barely make it through the month, able to get out and play, have CDs at CD Baby, I have no car..SO....Any advice or direction for someone with all day & night to work on their music with this situation? I longed for this life(not disability) and now I'm bummed out daily and trying ti figure a way to get out live. So I spend days "connecting" on internet. Which, of course leads to zip.

  • Love you both! Thanks for sharing.

  • This is great!! Thank you. I have a lot of respect for both of you. Doing what you really love is definitely the way to go. I've learned this the hard way!!!

  • Moby story is classic. One men gang dont work. They need slumber on occassion... lol

  • This was a great boost. After doing nothing but play music for a living for the last 15 years or so, I wanted to get out of a certain market and mindset and decided to get a day job which, even though directly connected to the music industry, was a DRAG. Did NOT excite me. Now I'm back to playing full time and redoubling my efforts to focus on what excites me in music. At the exact moment Derek says "do something that...you're up at 2 in the morning".. I was watching this at 2:12 AM love it!

  • Great stuff indeed.... trying to figure how it applies. I know wht gets me excited, and I barely have time to do it because I'm trying to earn a living. I am working towards making what I love doing my living, but it sure seems like a slow-as-hell process. meanwhile, still gotta pay the mortgage/bills, buy food etc. - which means alot of time spent NOT doing exactly what "gets me excited".

Really trying to put it all together. Will keep watching. Thanks much -

  • "Whatever excites you - Go do it!" It's great to see him talk about this for real on video. Great stuff/

  • @marcusunlimited I totally agree if something relaxes you and clears your mind than don't stop it (I feel exactly the same way about cooking) but I think you totally get my point.

    - Ariel

  • Here is a dichotomy. My weekly housecleaning, helps me to draw in a focus on things. I think while vacuuming. Of course my "house" isn't all that big. I say this not to contradict but to suggest there may be more than one way to feed a cat.:)

  • you are sooo right about getting a housekeeper.

  • I aspire to live by Derek's comments: find my passion and live it. But it IS hard - and there are so many things competing for time, and so many tasks that simply must be completed. Also, finding that sympatico crew of folk "who believe in my music" takes serious time.

Still, I did want to hear what Ariel started to say about how to deal with the "not big enough for booking agent" problem. I didn't hear her finish. Would love hear about: "if not booking $100K, fahgitaboutit"

    thanks,

    /brook

  • Derek Sivers is a great guy. CDBaby has given me more real opportunities than anyone else in the biz. I really enjoyed your interview. Thanks. Best Wishes, Hugo Duarte

  • Happy Holidays, ~MarcusUnlimited
