I might see some complications where the mechanics are obstructing the noise waves or actually interfering the quallity by producing to much extra noise from the mechanics. But it's interesting as it could produce alot more extra new options. Guitarist only have 2 hands to use for example.

On the other side, it might be easier to record specific single/combined tones and just mix them by computer software and replicate the sound that way.

A lot of things in our world are getting taken over by machines - it's just economical, efficient. I guess people don't want that to happen with music.
