  • Eight Belles died while racing she came second to a stallion named Big Brown. I cried. I felt horrible that she fell and died. She could've been so much more than just a race horse. R.I.P Eight Belles

  • the song is Janelle Monae - Amazing

  • the reason why she fell was because her sir had a weak bone thing in his jeans thats what caused her to fall and break her leg at least she aint in pain anymore

  • @blueroanfilly1 Her sire was Unbridled's Song, son of the fabulous Unbridled.. I never heard anything about genetic defects in the grand dame Eight Belles..

I believe the overall general consensus is that she stumbled, breaking one foot, breaking the other leg trying to catch herself.

So sad either way. She was so beautiful and proud.

  • Eight Belles Rip I will never forget you .I cant stop crying .

    And I have a question ;

Whats the name of this song ?

  • I cried to!!!

  • Whats This Song ??

  • this made me cry that day i will never will forget it:(

  • excuse my question, i have never heard of her before..x

  • this is so sad, she was stunning :( did you own her ?

rip eight bells !!! <3 xxxxx

  • Great vid! My dad saw this race. He called me to watch and I saw the horse get put down. She's in a better place now.

  • This is beautifully done - thank you. I remember watching the race, and the horrifying result that left me in tears. Pretty little girl.. We love you. (Five Stars)

  • ommg i saw this race it was soooo sad. :// i criedd. but great video.

  • what is this song called?

    eight bells R.I.P

  • I luv it. It's so sad.

  • I LOVE THE TRIPLE CROWN!

  • That is an awesome tribute :')I was actually on the way to an Arab show with my horses listening to the race on the radio....it was a sad moment in racing history. 8Bells will never be forgotten.

  • Poor Eight Belles. She was so beautiful, her coat color also! I just loved the color of her coat. R.I.P Eight Belles be a good girl in heaven now ok?

  • i can't beleive they euthanized eight belles! it's so sad! i wish she could have been saved. maybe if she only broke one ankle she could have been. :(

  • I just saw that she will be interred at the Kentucky Derby Museum and will have a special ceremony before the 2009 derby. It fits, she left her heart and her life on that track. I really hate to watch that race, but if you do you will see her run amazing race. She was physically done with furlong to go, she ran away from the rest and chased Big Brown on heart alone. She gave everything she had. Run forever free Eight Bells, I and many others will never forget you.

  • omg i hated to see her fall! that was like a horrible moment! she was amazing! what song is this i love it

  • nice video! i miss 8 bells she was such a good horse and ya it was so sad how she brock down!

  • hey, she said she couldn't find any pictures of her! I think it was a good tribute. It's the thought that counts.

Just to help you out, though, there's a lot of pictures of her on photobucket. I'm working on a tribute right now and that's where I found all of my pics. :)

    R.I.P. EIGHT BELLES!!!!

  • R.I.P Eight Belles

  • even though those r not eight bells it was still touching and kind...thank-you

  • Tragedy. ITs terrible. Eight Belles deserved a better life, at least her worries are put to rest. We loved you Eight Belles. R.I.P.

  • I luv animals and humans and I hate this part in life Life goes on to DEATH and no one likes that part. I love ya Eight Bells

  • love the video it is so sad i wish it could have been the jocky and not her poor eight belles!!! R.I.P WE WILL MISS YOU!!!!!

  • awsome vid! R.I.P eight belles

  • RIP EIGHT BELLES!!

  • if you truely loves horses, band the racing industry, a tragedy like this happens everyday behind the scenes

  • Now that Eight Bells died every time i look at Elmers glue I think of her. Death to the horses!

  • what song is that

  • actually maggy ud be suprised

  • Horse racing needs to be banned. All entertainment using animals needs to be banned. With all our technology we can surely come up with something to entertain us without using animals.

  • WOW another Human-Hater!!! you people are so pathetic there should be a pussy-liberal hunting season to help control the liberal-PEST problem, there is nothing wrong with horse-racing, you have your head up your butt to the reality of the real world, including most all aspects on how Nature operates, anyway back to horse-racing those horses wouldn't even be alive in the first place if it wasn't for the sport ie dogfood, and WHY is PETA demanding the jockey be suspended? Factual answer required

  • nice video, sure broke my heart o hear the new of her injury, and stunned by they having to put her down

  • grow up people..The horse was abused and whipped by the jockey he should not be a jockey. This is a beautiful tribute! thank you!

  • i do 2 agree w/ age limit before such demands placed on a young horse, me having saved a few off track TB's, however as well more effort beign placed on them not being thrown away like trash to (meat sales) after they are done racing, this should be a demand to the jockey club! You know 1 of the KD winners ended UP just there went to slaughter!

  • TONS of horses died/killed each year in horse racing.

  • I would like a campaign go forth that would take the idea of banning racing of thoroughbreds until they are 6 years old.

  • I would like to see horses banned from racing until they are 6. This could be done gradually so as not to bankrupt the stables and breeders. All you have to do is mention "Ruffian", "Barbaro", and now "Eightbells" and I get upset. These are horses that have died at "class" tracks. Imagine how many are put down in smaller circuits, county fairs, etc. I have seen horses die in their stalls after racing, because they gave their all but were not trained or conditioned properly.

  • fuck this horse

  • sadly,yo're right Ruffian4Ever,tere timm9 is an idiot.I have a many horses in training and i love everyone of them.Eight bells had to be put down because she had no front legs to stand on.Even if they tried surgery to save her,she would have died from collics within a week.I hate to see horse dying but this was the more human option...

  • Why did she not have front legs??? Becuse she was forced and pushed to hard for MONEY!

  • suck your cunt, fucking idiot!!!

  • TONS of horses died/killed each year in horse racing.

  • GOD bless eight belles

  • You did a lovely job roxie. BRAVO!!!!!Let's all just concentrate that an animal died. Not through anyone's negligance or abuse. Someone loved EightBelles and they did not love her because of the profit potential. She was a beautiful horse.

  • She sure was beautiful. It just makes me angry when ignorant people say that her owners and everyone around her didnt love her. They did love her deeply, and it wasnt about money.

  • Here here Ruff!!!

  • dang people on here only get rude with with a trbute how sad. it was a great horse just see that.god we fight over crap

  • She wasnt pushed to her death. She broke down when she was being slowed up. Like I said, dont talk about things you dont know.

  • She broke down because she was pushed and forced to hard all for MONEY so that=Killing for money. SICK!

  • NO SHE WASNT!!!! It wasnt for money. Running in the derby is not about the money-never has been, never will be. Get a fricken life and go torment elsewhere. Do you even own a horse?

  • Please, There was alot of money in her winning! Breeders! Buyers! Ect. So she was pushed to her death.

"Do you even own a horse?"

Yes, the pair runs free on my 40 arces with 3 ponds. Never forced to do things for money.

Own it the "sport" is out of touch with are world now.

  • When are you going to get your head out of your ass and see that she was NOT pushed to her death!

  • Just imagine how precious we would hold human life to be, if we could just begin to realize how precious the lives of other creatures of this world are. Humans should be the cartakers of this world, not exploiters. We'll never learn till we take responsibility for our actions as as species.

  • to the dumbfuck below me i hope you have to be put down

    you worthless fuck

  • i'm not saying i think it's good you fucking moron!

i'm saying people should not start riding a horse when it's a year old!

  • sorry if you thought i was talkin to/about you in any way

    im truly sorry!!:(

    i was talking about/to xenonangel799 and dano9181

sorry if you took it the wrong way

  • oh sorry!!!

you said the person under you and i was under you . . .

  • this totally proves my point that racehorses are raced way too young

  • wow, like 50,000 kids died today across the globe and someone made a video about a dead animal. this is piss pour, put people first

  • ur so selfish! people die every day because of AIDS and ppl cant do much about it....

this horse died a tragic death and ppl are mourning. think about others first.

  • i love the song it fits well. whats the name of it and who sings it. I would like to get it

  • poor 8 bells she lived at a place close 2 my house so i saw her before, she was even prettier in person i wish i could hav known her better she was so great WE MISS U 8 BELLS AND CONGRATS ON WINNING SECONDIN THAT BIG RACE even though its sad in my mind i see it that even though she died she died doing wat almost any horse i know would kill 2 do run and practically win such a huge and important race

  • what song is this?

  • Amazing

  • its sad...she was beautiful.

  • it's not fair that horses have to die because of something that they're forced to do. It should be banned.

  • omg i completely agree!!

its like dog fighting, its not rite 2 do that to an animal

they werent put on this earth to do that kind of thing!

    :,[

    anywho, great vid roxie

  • Listen - really - people have been riding and racing horses for MILLENNIA. It is certainly a tragic thing that happenned, especially after she did so well - however, she broke her ankles because she was too big, too young, and her ankles weren't strong enough. Its like natural selection - the better horse (Big Brown) will breed. She also probably served a bigger purpose in that people will pay more attention to how the horses are bred and not just about how fast they can race a horse.

  • so a horse breaks his feet and they have to kill him wow this is really stupid

  • take action and go to the people for the ethical treatment of animals to stop cruelty in the horsing race industry.

  • take action and go to the people for the ethical treatment of animals to stop cruelty in the horsing race industry.

  • You fucking PETA people need to shut the hell up and leave us the fuck alone. To say that horse racing is cruel just points out your stupidity.

  • acctually she tripped and broke one ankle and the fell and broke the other

  • eight bells fell because she had to much pressure and was tired out .......she fell on her front ankles and broke them ........its not a mistery!!!!!!!!

  • I like Big Brown, but it was a bitter sweet victory to me. When 8 bells went down and I heard that she had to be euthanized so sudden, I couldn't even celebrate. I saw the whole crowd looking in that direction, where 8 bells was, instead of looking at Big Brown celebrating. 8 Bells was a magnificent horse, just like all of the racehorses.

  • awesome.

    i am crying.

    she was soo beautiful1!

  • Horse racing should be banned! Period and end of discussion.

  • horses would rather die running than being stuck in a stall only to do pleasure rounds.

  • I think you have misunderstood, you might think that Big browns owner and trainer gloating afterward knew that the filly broke down, they didnt, and they were shocked later to find out

  • The trainer of 8 belles wasnt even available after the race because he was so upset. How is he a bad person???

  • I wish people didnt assume they know more than a professiona thoroughbred trainer like Larry Jones, she broke down a quarter of a mile after the race CANTERING...she was slowing down...then fell, a horse cant run on broken ankles, the second they broke, she went down, they didnt break during the race at all, adding to the strangeness. How dare ANYONE accuse Larry Jones of not loving his filly!!!!!!!

  • right. I understood that part but what I didn't get. Was that after the race as they interviewed him he was so excited and happy. Remember barbaro? did his trainer clap and shout and smile when he found out he was injured? no. Neither should Larry Jones have. Im not saying hes a bad trainer. Im saying hes a bad person.

  • I think one of the most elegant animals on Earth is the horse. It is sad to see them pushed so hard to win a race. The horses should be taken care of a lot better and given time to rest and heal after races. I hate seeing a horse go down after a race or during a race because of exhaustion or broken ankles. My heart goes out to the horses that work so hard to win on the race track. Some suffer greatly afterwards.

  • it's not a mystery how she fell. she was pushed too hard and her ankles broke under the pressure.

  • Beautiful Tribute!!! I love this song also who is it by.

  • beautiful tribute !

  • She'll always live in my heart. SAD VERY SAD

I had her to win, but her making it out this

race healthy and alive would've been a greater prize than winning any race such like

The Derby that saw a Princess in many fans

eyes THE WINNER. RIP PRINCESS EIGHT BELLES. IN MY HEART FOREVER YOU WILL LIVE...

ANGELS ARE RIDING WITH HER NOW..AMEN..

  • eight bells ran a hell of a race and i saw her go down im suprised she didnt break her neck or worse seriously injure her rider

  • this is really dsaid i cried when i saw it happen and when they did an interview with her trainer, it was so sad he was crying and his young daughter was crying, i get up set when my gold fish dies i can imagin losing an animal that was so close to your heart

  • she was beautiful filly and i pray that she r.i.p. it is a shame that two great horses (Barbaro & Eight bells) had to be put down at such a young age after the biggest race of their lifes.

    R.I.P

  • i love the sport and i want to be a trainer but if i do my horses wont race until there 4 or 5 and i dont care if there not fast enough i just lost my 1 year old thoroughbred gelding to colic a few weeks a go and i broke down into tears when she was just on the track i was jumping up and down and so was everyone else at my party and i just stopped and i was just devastated

  • Very sad. These are beautiful, large, powerful animals running their hearts out on pencils for legs. What a recipe for disaster. But, hey - it's an American tradition, so don't expect any changes, right? R.I.P. sweet girl.

  • sadly it has very little to do with the way horses are built. it has far more to do with the horse racing industry. they race the horses far to young to prevent having to pay for a horse whose six years old and not fast enough. if they were really looking out for the health of their animals, they wouldnt back them until they were around three. instead they are backed and being raced at 2 when their bones arent fully developed. damn shame.

  • Sorry but you are so wrong about that in it is how they are built..well to be more accurate it is the breeding today..If you look at the horses in the 60's and 70's horses race much often when they were 2 years old and held up.....Now lots of people did not know there were a horse disease going on in the early 2000's and brought down the crop of horses...That might have some of the blame on the durability horses these days.....Still it is very sad !

  • a disease didnt knock out the entire well boned population of thoroughbread bloodstock. and if it did, being an active member in the horse community for quite some time now, beginning way before the 2000s, i would like to know some details on the disease of which you speak. for instance, what its called, what it does, and how the hell hardly anyone in the equine community has every heard of it if it has so severly corrupted the breeding quality of todays top stock.

  • I did not say the entire population but it did affect a huge percentage in the early 2000's...The name of the disease is call EQUINE PROTOZOAN MYELOENCEPHALITIS! This affects the muscles of the central nervous tissue. They found this out in 1964 and thought they had it under control but in the early 2000 in Kentucky and other high popluation of horse fams an outbreak happen again. But they did get it under control..

  • my horse was diagnosed with EPM, believe me, you'll know it when they have it. Luckily with the right medication its treatable

  • beautiful horse

  • In 1984, R.J. McCunney and P.K. Russo published a study entitled Brain Injuries in Boxing. The study demonstrated that the U.S. sport with the highest number of deaths per 100,000 participants was horse racing:

    Fatality rates per 100,000 participants

     1. Horse racing: 128 (horses) 2. Sky diving: 123 3. Hang gliding: 56 4. Mountaineering: 51 5. Scuba Diving: 11 6. Motorcycle racing: 7 7. College Football: 3 8. Boxing: 1.3

  • Hey. ight Bells really was a great horse, we can pray she has a good time in horsey heaven, with Seabiscuit, and all of them. She was put down for a humane reason. Would you want to be kept in a stall for the rest of your life in pain when you have the passion of racing? She raced in the th Kentucky Derby EVERY horses dream.

  • Hillary wanted the 'filly' to win, she should have donated her huge ankles to the horse and it would have stood a chance!

  • i cried :'(

  • I cried too! She showed that girl race horses could get a better placing than last!!

  • i started to ball when this happened yesterday =(

  • i was at my friends house so i didn't know it happened till the next day. me parents told me and i cried and cried and cried. she's still a champian in my heart. And it's true her memorie still lives on.

  • she was so pretty its so sad she was put down!!!

  • well I feel very sad and sorry for her but I guess they did the right thing though sadly it almost made me cry:(

  • Unfortunately there are people out there like you. this is not the time nor place to show your ignorance, haveing no compassion or kindness for others fellings and loss.

if you have nothing nice to say, say nothing at all.

  • Most all the pictures are not of eight bells. They are of other horses. Eight bells has a very slight silver birthmark on her for head. These other colts and horses are brown with a very large white spot on her forhead.

Yes it is nice. (please have actual pictures of her and not fake it, with other horses of the wrong sex.) Eight Bells is black and silver not brown. (sad)

  • I could not find any pictures of her though sorry

  • She could have been healed and used as a lesson horse. She ran great. Im pproud of her. RIP Eight Bells

  • they put her down because she was in too much pain, both her front ankles were broken, she would have probably developed lamanitis, it is sad but i think they made the right choice

  • Lovely horse, and yes i BET IF YOU PAYED SHE COULD HAVE BEEN SAVED!! Maybe not still be a race horse though eh!

  • While I feel sorry for Eight Bells it should be also noted that over 70 million people in the USA cannot afford or obtain health insurance. These multi-millionaire racehorses get better healthcare than most people do. Sorry but that the bottom line and it's just plain wrong. Just my 2 centavos.

  • eloquntly put

  • and to think she was only three, she already had heart problems, to think they raced JUST FOR MONEY. she, was beautiful, she is in a better place,

  • Shouldn't a "tribute" have actual photos of the one being honored? the first one is 8Bells, but the rest...

    Not even worth a look.

  • hooray to newsguy. there are so many more important things to worry about that involve HUMANS. i just wanted to see the legs snap!

  • ninohuong, Humility,Kindness, Empathy, and compassion, i`m sorry you have none of the above,

  • thats so mean ninohuong 2 bad u couldnt b less self centered and see past ur snobby self i honestly feel bad 4 u

  • she is the proof that horses shouldn't be raced so young;; remember last year when a horse in belmont broke his leg right in half and finished the race;; she broke her 2 front ancles because the bones of a 3 year old aren't fully developed.. RIP beautiful girl

  • oww she so cute! rip=[

  • Beautiful animal too bad.

  • This is one of the most "remarkable videos's" I have ever seen. What a beauty, this wonderful, beautiful creature in which we mourn here tonight. It was early afternoon when the race ran on TV here. I watched her come up on the outside(tough place to be) she gave heart, soul, & spirit in all, the "ultimate sacrifice of life" in the end. We have her memories and can visit her in our dreams. She's at peace now. Big Brown knew, thus why he threw his Jockey briefly. Run in "her memory Big Brown".

  • R.I.P Eight Bells

  • My "empathy's were to the "obvious- NewsGuy2005", too awful knowing some people are so ignorant when it comes to our fellow loving creatures that help us "exist in today's world". Some people are so unfortunate never to have been "LOVED". (?) He sounds cold, callious, and meaningless to anyone or anything! Unfortunate! Obviously loves to curse!

  • How "PATHETIC" you are?? MUST be horrible, certainly wouldn't want your callious attitude around. Pray you have no children or animals! You obviously have no respect for anyone or creature other than yourself. You must truly be life & love-starved! What a lonely-life! You sound like former NFL star Michael Vick, (Have him reserve you a cell). People like you are the reason the ASPCA have created laws against inhumane treatment of animals. Curious did you write just to curse? Get over yourself!

  • Showing total grace, this little filly ran with all her heart, soul, and spirit, costing her in the end the "ultimate sacrifice" of life. The heaven's must have opened and offed this young beautiful creature, PEACE! You ran gracefully, you finished 2nd. You made us proud, terrific memories will live on, and we'll meet again in our dreams. Big Brown is mourning in his own way, I believe he knew what happened, and like us, will run in cautiously in her "memory".Rest in peace, see you in my dreams

  • WRONG, they don't live short lives. Most live quite long, well cared for lives actually. Please, all you horse race bashers, get your facts straight. No one wants this to happen. If it were a jockey who was killed during the race you'd probably be saying that they deserved it or something stupid. Just stop it already. You really sound ridiculous.

  • i new that before the race legs were skinnier than all the others

  • synthetic track surface will prevent many injuries .

  • Sad to see such a young talented horse go like this. She was doing such a great job in that race to, 2nd place. Way to finish Eight Belles. R.I.P. Such a beautiful horse!

  • her name is spelled " Eight Belles"

  • im sorry for the last time!? read description ppl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! JEEEEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!

  • Eight Bells will always be the 2008 Kentucky Derby Winner to me. What heart, what grace, what dedication and determination! She will forever remain in my heart as the greatest of all time! God Bless Eight Bells!

  • Thank you so much for making this. I was there and watch her fall. So sad:(

  • She was so beautiful and had a lot of talent and heart. It wasn't even fair that she died in that rare accident, especially AFTER the race when she was being pulled up.

  • Anyone that has been to the Derby knows the magic is in the air and your hair stands on end for the derby race. We also know that the whole crowd prays nothing like this will happen. It was so sad to see such a great philly go down on the track. My heart goes out to her human family today!

  • it is actually rare for a horse to lose it's life racing nowadays

  • i don't know much about racing, but i saw the story on ESPN. This is so sad. RIP Eight Belles

  • Poor filly! shes so beautiful, but, atleast now, she'll be in a better place running throught the meadows freely and her front legs wont hurt anymore RIP!

  • soo sad! i loved that horse. beautiful filly. R.I.P

  • they say her ankles were too weak anyhow

even if she wouldnt have raced this race

she could have had a problem in the future!!

Its soo heartbreaking tht a beautiful filly cant even celebrate her "winning" after the biggest race in the United States, or kentucky whatever =*[

  • This is the saddest Kentucky derby since it began 134 year ago

  • omg, I will miss Eight Belles soooooo much, she didn't deserve to die so young. :( I will always remember Eight Belles :(

  • If people would stop racing horses at age 2, there probably wouldn't as much injuries.

  • you mean three? 2 year olds are in training if they are three they start racing

  • Just to tell the people who think racing is a kind of horse abuse, you guys aren't right.

Every horse in there was trained with care. You have to remember these are thousand pound animals. Plus if racing is abuse, isn't every other horse event in the world abuse? Isn't asking a horse to jump over something taller that itself abuse?

When an amazing racehorse falls, you can only blame it on the lack of judgement, not the sport.

  • thanks for setting them straight for me

  • Spellcheck..... it's "Eight Belles" not bells.

Anybody got a clip of her actual fall?

  • i am sorry i was tired i just got back from Padre you think i can get a name right!?

  • Same thing can happen to horses out in the wild, just as easily. The horses are spoiled practically, the have the best training and the best care, they don't exactly neglect these horses. And this isn't exactly common, I've never seen anything like this ever happen. Sad story though :(

  • They need to stop racing 3 yr olds. A horse is more mature in both mental and physical ways after age 4.

Yes, 3 yr olds love to run fast. Yet, placing limits on age would really help in reducing race horse accidents.

  • I agree. How many times does this need to happen? Go For Wand, Barbaro, Ruffian. It is happening more often. Horse racing is a rich mans game. To them its money, and a horse is replacable. :(

  • i do agree i play horse racing fantasy or HRF but i only race 5 and 4 year olds except for my training horse Magikal wind who is a 3 year old i know it not real but i still do it

  • omg!!! afer riding our horses( me and my friends) we watched the race and we were soooo sad!!! she was such a good race horse!!!

  • rest in peace...

  • Eight Belles, I can see you now in that green pasture with Barbaro. You are a legend.

  • Love your beautiful words!

  • Gosh. She was a beautiful horse!!

  • it is so sad barbaro now eight belles she was amazing it is such a dangerous sport i know for myself
