  • 'She said, "My bed gets into your hair so give me back my comb.." '

Visionary; and after all these years still as bazzin' as the first time I heard it.

  • i can only imagine someone who grew up listening to this, having no idea what the band looks like, looking it up on YouTube and getting the shock of their life

  • It's ALL been done before

  • Do you realize that this is the founder of Electric Light Orchestra and that he could play all of the instruments in this band? In fact on numerous recordings he played a lot of the instruments. And he did have a lot of respect for Phil Spector.

  • This is one of those moments when I'm not sure what to be most impressed by.. each individual or the group as a whole. I'm digging the french horn, the bass saxophone, angel wings and rollerskates...Roy's intergalactic magician vibe.. the intro drum effect... all so great. Maybe its the Phil Spector approved vocal harmony... wow.. just wow.

  • It's a SoulTrain performance?...

  • I think I saw the front man in Berkeley... oh, wait, that was just a homeless dude. Nevermind.

  • Thank you for putting this on here, it's just great!

  • Far out there aye. I think Rob Zombie got his paint job from Mr Wizard. Raw and natural talent back then.

  • whatever

  • He's the reason I stopped hitchhiking. Still sounds good if you close your eyes.

  • roy wood accomplished so many great things with the move then he just went pop rock......i have a hard time seeing the appeal of this on anything but a very shallow level.....fellow move bandmate lynne not only made it bigger than wood with with elo, but (in my estimation) created far moe artistically redeeming music.....i really wish wood and lynne could have made it work out.

Salud !!¡¡

  • @sergiodelacroix

I laughed so much at your comment my ribs hurt for an hour. No offence to Hagrid or his family.

  • dude... this had to be an strange but awesome time^^

  • @BedlamZero - it was that! Makes me smile to watch this and remember how I LOVED this song in 1973. Was a Senior in HS and Roy Woods Wizzard was on the midnight playlist on WMMR in Philadelphia with Michael Tierson. I recall those teenage nights falling asleep listening to Michael interview Roy. Incredible and wonderful years indeed.

  • @BedlamZero No, this was England in the 70's brilliant by untamed.

  • @BedlamZero baby it was.

  • Sod Phil Spector's Wall of Sound Roy always hit you with a tidal wave. Pure Genius!

  • Greatest bass players of all time? John Entwistle (obviously), Gary Thain, Noel Redding, Jim Lea, Geezer Butler, Flea will all appear on the most thoughtful lists. Greatest bass player on roller skates? That'll be Rick Price :-)

  • @Ruskellnw1 Sorry dude that i gave you a thumbs down, was an accident

  • @Ruskellnw1 I LOVED that comment :-) He is my Dad, and that comment is very true! haha.

  • @undrugged you're kidding. Roy Wood, the founder of ELO is your Dad?

  • @alanbstard4 No, the bass player is. Rick Price.

  • @undrugged Roy Wood founded ELO together wirh Jeff Lynne and Bev Bevan in 1971, but he left the band 1972 and founded Wizzard.

  • @Wolli1960 Erm...Im not being rude, but why are you telling me this? :)

  • @undrugged lol. does he still have the cricket pads. You may need them for the ashes series (grin )

  • @alanbstard4 I know he has a few of the old outfits in his loft...I must ask about the pads!! I think i'd have seen them at some point in 32 years though so I doubt it.

  • @undrugged They wore some wild outfits in those days. Wizzard were a great band

  • Glam rock... gotta love it :)

  • im embarrassed to say this is the first ive seen roy, and im terrified lol. gotta love this tune though!

  • ROY WOOD IS MY GRANDPA

  • @MbootwoKcoonie You are very lucky, he's a great man. My all time music hero.

  • ABBA said their inspiration for "Waterloo" came from this song!

  • Great stuff! Those were the days!

  • One of the best intros ever !

  • With Mick Burney on sax, still blowing strong today!!

  • he looks like charlie manson!!!!!!!!!

  • School disco... Christmas party... annoying the girls...& kerplunk.. Thats my memories.... What does this song remind you of ?...

  • @chrssgreen Can't touch that one...it's perfect!

  • Great old tune reminds me of my high school days , love Roy's do and outfit

  • Amazing days, amazing man and what times we all miss

  • one of my uncles played on one of the drums not sure which set though

  • Is that Hugh McDowell on bass?

  • @RevolutionWalrusNZ

No it's Rick Price. Hugh McDowell plays the cello.

  • Ahh .. them were the years when Christmas was in May!!

  • If it could make sound, Roy Wood could play it.

  • what a great sound , it always reminded me of the old Spector wall of sound philosophy

  • @kiwizeppelin actually, I think that Roy is better than Spector. There is more to it, and the tunes are marvellous. What a sound, they don't make them like this any more

  • holy shit that guy looks creepy. im freaking out

  • brilliant brings back memories of the local fair and school discos lol brill

  • Ah the memories! 2nd year at school, a quick game of football and rush home to watch "Lift Off With Ayshea" where this seemed to be on every week - Great memories!

  • barmy bostin brummie!!!

  • Just head this track as 1 on Pick Of The Pops 1973, now can't stop playing it.

  • first group i ever saw . the gig was at sutton granada

  • Love it!!! Enjoyed it so much, they don't make records like that anymore.

  • Could be LIFT OFF with Ayesha Brough.

  • @judibrannigan I'd agree.when he did lift off he used to stick that A in his forehead star as he was madly in love with her at the time.

  • One of the best

  • Roy Wood should make anyone who pretends to be a rock star nowadays feel embarassed-true grounbreaker!!

  • brilliant, my eldest brother had all his records.....o dear i feel really old now..good tho..thanks !!

  • another early tune to my memory, along with slade marc bolen

  • fantastic, timeless song.

  • All Roy Woods work was lengthy, rather than just three lines over and over again. See Black Berry way, etc, meaning he could and did write good music.

  • @kennnmoran I'm a yank, and he's one of my fave artists. That said, he does look here like the spawn of Priss from Blade Runner and Chewbacca...

  • was'ent that just the best music, unlike the crap today

  • Wall of Sound - Brum style!

  • Great song. jive rhyms with Die for some unknown reason.

  • Why is nobody eccentric and creative anymore?

  • @peterzang you just have too look harder these days/////its there

  • @peterzang

Come to Columbus Ohio and Just try and find the Victorian Village's Legendary "Rocknroll Reverend" He walks through the streets singing wonderful songs and wearing the most wonderfully bizzare clothing. Give him a ciggie and he'll be your friend!

  • @MrFlashBazbo Now you're talking. Good bless Ohio!

  • @peterzang and devon, full of sheep, cows, and people, best place in england.

  • Hi Roy 5+++++ Great Live

  • youthgoes see at video time @ 2.22

  • This is of course pre-recorded and if you listen to the end you can hear french horns being played. One might suppose they were played by Roy Wood himself.

  • 1974 wordt niet meer gemaakt

  • Awesome! Go Roy !

  • Roy Wood - one of the greatest composers of all time

  • Amazing. The real question however is...WHY is Roy Wood holding a French horn? But still incredible.

  • @youthgoes . Because he plays the French horn.

  • @ding11bat That's awesome. I just didn't see him use it in the video so I wasn't sure...truly talented though. Thanks!

  • @youthgoes see at video time @ 2.22

  • @ding11bat Well I'll be damned...you're right! Awesome! :)

  • was fürn dreck

  • I love his make up and beard he reminds me a teddy bear X)

  • I remember my mum's bemused/horrified/utterly speechless reaction to seeing this lot on good old t.o.t.p Just when she thought she was getting used to the excessess of Glam Rock it suddenly took a whole new turn! Love it, great memories of a gret era.

  • i remember when i was young and loved roy wood, my dad saying " oh my your gonna marry a hairy yob, he loved roy wood , however i married a prat not roy wood. dad god rest your soul. love you xx

  • the cool guys

  • Just a great song, what else could be said?

  • absolutely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Angel wings, cricket pads and roller skates...what more could you want? I love band that don't take themselves too seriously, and you could never accuse Wizzard of that!

  • that roy he was a wizard!!!!!!!!!!

  • thanks for posting, those were the good old days, bye the way how is roy and the gang going these days ? ok i hope.

  • He set the standard for ELO inclusion of other instruments other than guitar and drums

  • @martinmartinshaw2

You need to check out bands like Jethro Tull and Gentle Giant.

  • I was having a blast earlier listening to loads of 70's greats and came across this beauty...unfortunately I think my 12 year old has ruined it for me.

He walked in mid song and said sarcastically "heartwarming song mum" When I asked what me meant he replied "why would anyone sing a song asking you to see their baby die" Be a long time before I hear the real lyrics...thanks son!

  • Yes roy wood paved the way for all of those rock n roll french horn frontmen, like uh... then there was uh... not too forget uh ...

  • Loved then, Love it now. A great pop song! Onya Roy & the Boys. Now, if the missus will only let me skate around the house when I'm practicing bass..

  • Roy could/can play just about anything - I think I may have posted earlier about this video, but it is from the Russell Harty Show from 1973. I read in an article at the time that Roy had actually played 27 instruments (inc French Horn) on this track, not including the overdubs. He never, in my opinion, made enough of the fact that he was such a great multi-instrumentalist.

  • I am pretty sure the program was "Top of the Pops" in England hosted by Jimmy Saville ..... thanks for posting this takes me back to when I was 10years old watching this on the telly ...

  • What a great song to be born to.

  • This Guy was With the GUY who Later Became ELO Jeff Lynn. Before they split where a band called The Move, check it out.Blackberryway

  • Come on everyone, # Well I wish it could be Christmas every d.... # oh wait...

  • OMG its Rob Zombie's father!

  • It says in a Facebook's application that i got that I was born when this song was a hit. I did not know about this old Rob Zombie guy, hehehe

By the way, is a wonderful song...

    Regards from Guad, Mexico

  • Great song. SHIT - I feel old

  • Crazy and awesome , great memories

  • Just read the comment re.Roy Wood and the French Horn. I dont think he could play it but Bill Hunt -keyboards-could. He graduated from Birmingham School of Music and this was one of his specialist instruments.

  • Now I am one year younger again...

  • Stock akin and waterman of the seventies. Although if it was no1 when i was born it must mean something

  • Just great music.

By the way, is he a relation to Hagrid?

  • Good to see that former Move members go to heaven when they die, even if they are forced to wear rollerskates and cricketeer leggings.

  • Class act - Roy Wood very underated!

  • @TheMayo101 too right - this was a great era - and when top of the pops was actually worth watching

  • Totally Agree he's the Best

  • This bands wild!!

  • This is just sublime!

  • My teenage kids nearly fell over when I showed them this clip. they heard the song then saw the clip and it didnt go together. Great song.

  • How cool is this guy??

  • Comment removed

  • the xfactor just cound`nt make music like this, shame on them

  • Who doesn't wish that pop music was still this much fun.

    1973...happy days...this is so "out there"..it's amazing!

  • Wizzard had two number one hits in 1973 this see my baby jive & angel fingers . 1973 one of the best years for music also that year wizzard had a top 5 hit with i wish it could be christmas everyday

  • This song has been haunting me the last few days, the tune in my head but just couldn't come up with the words or the name of the song.

Then as I was standing at my kitchen sink when the words came to me but still couldn't think of the song title so I typed in "see my baby die" and it led me here.

This is the first time I've seen the band playing and give many thanks to posting this vid here. So many good songs came from the 70's .

    Thankyou

  • This brings back childhood memories. Didn't know Roy played the french horn. Great song.

  • he can play evry know intrument know to man!!!
