Yes, you're right, dead maggots don't break up the groundbait on the feeder. Also, they don't wriggle off barbless hooks and carp seem to take them just as readily as live maggots. To prepare the maggots just put them in a plastic bag and freeze them for at least 24 hours.
Why would you use dead red maggots? iv seen a few anglers use dead maggots but never understood why? is it so they dont break up your groundbait feeder to fast?
@ukshabz yes thats one of the reasons another reason is they dont wriggle themselves down into the lake bed or get under any gravel etc because when this happens the fish can become preoccupied in sifting through the bottom or gravel to find them and youll be plagued with line bites and you will wait longer for a bite
