Back in the days of gen 1 I imposed a "No catching" rule, banning the use of pokeballs to catch them period. The only pokemon you could raise were ones you could aquire outside of battle. No Safari zone either, since that was still an encounter. It's not a surprise that Charizard, Jolteon, and Gyarados are still my favorites, since you can get that free eevee and buy a magikarp cheap. Spend a bit of time getting a Dratini and maybe an Abra at the game corner and Lance wouldn't know what hit him.

There are probably more gruelling challenges IMO like beating with an unevolved bug (such as wurmple more recently) or using nothing but moves like constrict however.

My brother co-owned the gameboy and cartridge upon which the game was played, and took it to a friend's house. He idiotically decided to start a new game to trade for new pokemon, believing his friend in saying that he could get back to the old save. He couldn't, and those pokemon were lost forever.

I was so happy when I evolved her on Blue version (I know they didn't have genders then, but my Parasect was always a 'girl' to me for some reason). My brother said he wanted to borrow her for the PokeDex, but he lied and tried to use her in battle. He didn't know about badges/obedience, and was so furious with losing to Brock that he smashed his Gameboy against the table. His GB was fine, but his PKMN Yellow cartridge no longer worked.
