  • lol I love Americans.

  • Evil scientist at 2:56

  • What's worse it that this documentary was made in 1996. I am writing this comment in the year 2012 and things aren't any different in this part of the country.

  • It's people like this that make me NOT proud to be an american. I live in south Georgia and it really is that bad down here. People really are that stupid in the bible belt. It's a shame.

  • Omg so many Richard Dawkins shows. I FUCKING LOOOOOOOVE IIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTT! MORE DAWKINS MOOOOOOREEEE!!!!

  • yeah the south is fucked up but dont say shit about it unless you've been there, and from someone who grew up there i can say that its not that bad. just give us time

  • Alabama is one f***ed up state! At least I live clear across the states from it.

  • Amuuuurricuh! We don't believe in no evil-ution!! I am legitimately ashamed of my country, well, at least a good portion of its citizens and the people running the country. What a f***ing shame!

  • America the dumb

  • I live in Canada, and I feel like I should write to Dawkins and apologize for living next to Americans.

  • @mikeyman2010

I'm Canadian as well, to be honest after meeting and talking to a lot of Americans in the last 2 years I am beginning to think the distribution of sharp witted people and complete morons is about even. I meet a lot of idiots and a lot of great people everywhere I go.

  • he doesnt believe that a single cell evoloved into man? every human being began as a single cell in the womb which divided until it was embryo, then a fetus and so on and so forth-we know it to be fact-you can see it in an ultrasound-so why is it so hard to beileve that all life evovlved from a single cell? moron!

  • this is a theory, firstly, the universe has always existed, the big bang started when a wormhole from distortion in time and space that started in the smallest fraction of a second AFTER the big bang stretched back BEFORE the big bang and caused the big bang. makes sense?

  • @nikhilnick

Did your mom fuck your uncle to produce you?

Sorry about my angst, but propagating such a pathetic sterotype always irks me.

People who utilize stereotypes are quite frankly shallow, weak minded and typically ethnocentric (I'm talking about you). It's utilizing such gross charicatures that inhibits ones ability to judge people on individual merits.

I pray (figure of speech), you were joking.

  • Why do so many people think that you are supposed to believe what you want to be true, rather than what you have evidence to be true?

  • Those ignorant people are the best example of apes being our cousins.

  • Americans stupid? Now wait a second. We never invented ANY major religion, nor did we come up with the idea of Catholicism or even Protestants let alone Islam. If Americans are stupid...it is because Europeans and others made us that way. OK OK OK...I'M KIDDING! I'M KIDDING! But I say it to make this point...Stop stereo-typing. There are numb skulls and geniuses all over the planet.

  • Im so glad for living in Norway:)

  • why is there a nudism video on the side list? lol

  • Oh wow, I LOVE the opening. It's like "Mad Scientist Instills Terror In Elderly Onlookers!".

I mean, he lets the ball go, and it's just like CRASH. And the fruit gets obliterated!

  • Once the music at 4:00 kicked in, I knew what was coming, and I felt an intense shame. <:-(

  • This is why I hate living in America.

  • I love coming from an ape, it makes life so much more intriguing and makes everything about being human worthwhile. It makes me wanna challenge that and move beyond what nature intends, that is the point of humanity, to break the boundaries of nature, that is the point of life.

  • To be fair I don't believe in evolution. I understand it fairly well. It is fact. You don't NEED to believe in it it'll keep being true with or without belief. It's not like Santa, Jesus or fairies. I think one issue we as reasonable people should stop doing is using the word belief in reference to fact. I don't believe, I KNOW. I have evidence to back up this knowledge. It has been tested and it succeeded. I feel bad for those who are willfully blind. And profoundly sad.

  • I love 4:02; i just knew he was in America haha.

  • @gabumonfanclubx haha i rememeber this part, when i first watched it i laughed my ass off, when the music started to play. The editors built this in as a joke, im sure lol

  • Decades from now, people will look back at this video, as well as the others, and see a point of Evolution of the Human mind. Those individuals who view the scientific evidence without bias during this time, and in any other time, will continue to evolve and provide a stronger foundation for future societies. Those that do not, will not, and therefor become an increasingly, insignificant participant in the positive, progressive, future achievements, of Human beings, living on this Planet.

  • @0d12m23 I live in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Believe me.. Pople don't like me as i am an Atheist Evolutionist

  • If any of you all watched the other videos, he not only goes to the US, he goes to other countries too. There are "stupid" people all over the planet, stop complaining and just take advantage.

  • Comment removed

  • dammit dawkins why are you picking on the US.... why the fuck did you go to alabama

  • I hate being the minority in America.

  • What in the flying Hell? Like, back up, hold the phone! Did he say that only 1/3 of the people knew that the earth revolves around the sun? I thought the British were better educated than most Americans. According to the latest statistics, about 20% percent of Americans believe that the sun revolves around the earth, which leaves about 80% percent of Americans who know that the earth revolves around the sun. But more than 50% of Americans are against Evolution, so we're not so smart either.

  • Richard has some serious BALLS!!!

  • Hm, I thought the most profound scientific discoveries started with "Hm, that's odd", instead of "Eureka".

  • Two words: Rhesus factor.

  • @whatyouchating You can find a ton of stupid people in any country in the world. And really, going to Alabama is kind of an easy shot. It's consistently way at the bottom of the list in our nation's ranking of education.

  • 2: 49 THE HELL???

  • @Killerjosh89 Fakey psychic surgery. I'd say he went on to magic out a bit of meat or bloody cloth and claim it was a tumor or such. It's one of the lowest cons as it preys on the terminally ill very often indeed.

  • @croutonfada yeah no shit lol....2011 and people still buy into this crap...lol

  • @croutonfada Sorry, thought that was a question, didn't mean to sound patronising. I just got used to having to point this kind of shit out to my friends before they stump up €90 to some lying toerag.

  • Biology proves we have a Maker and the entire universe has the same Maker that we have because there is evidence of no other Maker.

(Notice how God chose not to tilt the earth a little durring the demonstration.)

The ordered functions hydrogen and most of the most common elements obey in life forms prove that the entire universe and all matter in it have the same Maker of life forms obeying a preexisting word written in and with functions the elements were made to have.

  • "And yet..." *HICK MUSIC*

    Oh god, how did I know he was in my country? orz;;;;;

  • I very much feel that the change from a theistic society to a secular society will share one main characteristic with evolution. Time.

  • You know that town in Alabama were the University of Alabama is? WHERE WE WON 13 NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS in football. Of yeah, and were God unleashed his wrath with the April 27 F4 tornado. I am an atheist and I have made 6 people here atheist. I am currently working on a conservative Catholic.

  • The four dislikes were from JESUS, GOD THE FATHER, and THE HOLY SPIRIT...................and me >:)

  • @TheFaceOfJohnPants i thought the trinity was one person.....

  • He Flinched !!! Ergo God exists !

  • He is dumb period

  • I know it's true, but I still wouldn't stand in front of that ball.

  • Thank you to this channel for uploading all of these wonderful videos :) Much appreciated :)

  • why religious people keep coming to this kind of videos to say bulls**t.

we don´t go to their horrible powerpoint presentation with Jesus images, sunsets and cheesy piano music...

  • @maximilianitoaguirre Lmao AMEN

  • Some of the problem, besides teaching children misinformation, is that human beings want to feel more important than they really are. So of course people are going to want to think they came from other people or 'god' rather than apes. Putting ourselves on a pedestal not only endangers animals, as we see while we make them extinct because people do not understand their value, but it also endangers the human race as well, as we cause global climate change and support corporate greed.

  • Out of dirt, OK. And what were you made of, blonde? A fucking rib! That's why 70% of you is made of water cause Adam's rib was made of a puddle. Logical.

  • Uggghh. Every time they pan to America and show how ignorant most of us are, I cringe and feel the urge to write Dawkins personally to apologize on behalf of my country.

  • @incongruousinquiry Just keep repeating Carl Sagan Carl Sagan Carl Sagan til you stop cringing. There are just as many idiots in Europe, we just have quieter idiots is all.

  • @incongruousinquiry

You thick dumb religious American fukwit

  • @incongruousinquiry You will find ignorance all over the world

  • Don't be sorry for being an American. Ignorance is the problem. Not country of origin.

  • i am american, and i am sorry.

  • @kelbykross1 I agree with Fenrirsilverwolf, above. The fact that a bone-headed ignoramous like Fob Whatisname can become a significant force in American politics is absolutely breathtaking, but it does explain why he is keen to keep everybody else in his State in ignorance, too.

  • @kelbykross1 And, yes, I am aware of the irony of my mistyping "ignoramus"! Spotted it after pressing Post ...

  • @ litetheory i was thinking that the other night after seeing the fifth ape.. the religious people refuse to evolve beyond the 18th century, that's our problem. and it's amazing we're even taking them seriously and letting them run parts of our societies..

  • A lot of berating and generalizations floating around. The footage and statistics are shocking, though.

  • I like this channel very much. I thank you for contributing to the greater pool of human knowledge, reason, and understanding. Greetings!

  • I love the moment at 4:02

not to believe it would be absurd, and yet...*banjo music sets in*

  • Most Americans = Dumbass illiterate rednecks

  • @robvelor yeah, but there are like.. pockets of normal ones lol

  • @shcnoozlebop lol, that is way I said... most.. few pockets here and there sure, but they need to raise their voice and stop all this non sense.

  • She prefers the idea of coming from Adam and Eve than being evolved from apes? So she prefers the idea of being an inbred?

  • It makes me sad how ignorant some people are about science and evolution. People should stop poisoning the minds of their children with religious waffle...

  • That watermelon or wtf ever represent the popes' head

  • It is scary that we have the technology to create atomic bomb but we still have people in the handle of that power who believe in old storybook as truth....You'd think that in this stage of technologial development humans would've already accepted evolution.

  • @jshowa2 Because Dawkins isn't making it for an American audience, and yes, that's what they honestly think.

Congratulations. Now you know what it feels like to be stereotyped.

  • Favorited for epic banjo breakdown at 4:00

  • 4:15 "One stop was at AUBURN, Alabama."

I lol'd, although Tuscaloosa would have probably had similar results.

(Lucky Auburn, though... I wish Richard Dawkins would visit a certain prestigious university in Gainesville, FL!!)

  • @jshowa2 Perhaps, I was of course sticking to academic achievement, the Dr. Sc. (Doctor of Science) is the highest doctorate available in science and is rarely awarded in the United Kingdom. It is even higher than a PhD, I am a zoology PhD myself.....D. Phil is the same as a PhD.

  • @adammfr You don't have to do anything. If you don't want to go to church, don't.

  • Professor Richard Dawkins M.A., D. Phil., Dr. Sc., FRS, FRSL

  • Omg totally love the breaking of the melon

  • Way to go, America. Thanks for embarrassing humanity.

  • @rhinocore It should be Alabama

  • Dawkins is considered to be one of the great living scientists.

  • @adammfr

Now I don't feel as bad. I'm sorry you have to go through that. Keep asking questions and question anything and everything. It's such a shame how out of hand religion, particularly Christianity and Islam have gotten. I just hope that rational intelligence will prevail.

  • I'm ashamed to be associated with Americans especially those in the central and southern regions where religion, particularly Christianity flourishes.

  • Let's face it, people in the deep south aren't the most intelligent people in the world. Most of them are still racist and homophobic so do you really expect them to understand the complexities of science and evolution. In fact they're not interested in even listening to the scientific facts, they believe what they believe and nothing will change that.

  • I am embarrassed for the state of Alabama

  • It almost makes me mad while Dawkin's is interviewing those people.

  • 1/3 knew that the earth goes around the sun once a year!? What incompetent people were they surveying? I mean, I knew that from age 3! (Probably exaggerating, but close enough)

  • I performed the pendulum experiment with a Foucault pendulum, after reading about it on Carl Sagan's Contact. It was quite scary seeing the big metal blob coming at you! I loved when Ellie Arroway challenges the faithful to move a step closer and pray that god shortens the amplitude of the swing. I don't know if I would like anyone to take up the challenge; I would feel terrible about their fractured skulls!

  • Not surprisingly America also has the worst public education standard in the whole OECD. Poor education = creationism.

  • cue dumb redneck music! yee haw! 4:00

  • Have you ever noticed that when people question religion they get hot headed and tempers fly yet when others question science and evolution the "logical" thinkers are able to keep their cool? :)

  • These people are the irrefutable proof that men come from apes!!!

  • @chrisgr2008

Wrong. It proves that Apes are descended from creationists.

  • I would not perform the experiment with the iron ball.

Not that I don't trust physics.

I just don't trust my ability to stand still enough...

  • This is depressing...near the end of the American part, I was thankful that my country wasn't going to be disgraced anymore but then the statistics stated at the end nearly had me loose all faith in mankind all together! Only a third knew it takes one year for the Earth to revolve around the Sun?! Are you kidding me?!

  • what does he say between 3:36 - 3:40?, english is my second language, thanks

  • @VOD713

The world is about 4.5 billion years old. Pretty "soon", rough within the first billion years or so, the first living cell arose.

  • @dawkinschannel thanks

  • 8:35 You look like you come from an ape you thick bitch.

  • @lickmyshoe182 If ya think about it, she'd rather to have come from dirt, than a living animal. hahahaaaaa These folk dont understand what they preach!

  • What these people don't understand is, that science isn't a democracy. You don't get to vote on which is the truth. But yet that's what is happening.

If a majority of the people voted to teach a flat earth theory, does it mean it should be taught? Certainly not.

  • white american christians hate evolution, because it means they are related to black people.

    racist fuckpigs

  • It blows my mind that there are retards walking among us, and looking just like the rest of us.

  • @pomegranateish My hypothesis is that they are a less evolved subspecies I call Homo creationalensis. Characterised by an inability to apply critical thought processes to none material concepts. I do hope that geneticist are investigating this theory. Perhaps we could have them removed from society and placed in zoos for their own safety.

  • Can you be any more fucking ignorant than those braindead rednecks?

  • If a theist male is accused of rape and knows he is innocent does he suddenly start believing in DNA in hopes to be cleared of the crime or does he still call it just a theory?

  • It's quite obvious that religion has been invented to mind control people, to dumb them down, to terrorise them into submission. As such sheeple, they are easy to control and enslave.

  • dumb fucking rednecks

  • I love the music that starts playing when Richard says "And yet..." *begin hillbilly music!*

  • Religion is a virus, it infects people and grows inside them to create a life which is controlled by someone else.

  • what is shocking to me is that those are members of a government, Do they really think they live in a country where running a theology is acceptable? It is against their own consitution, it is against their own rules for running thier country, It's fucked up!

  • Wow... Fob James seems like a smart guy...

  • If we continue to refer to religious people as idiots how do u expect our point to get through to the deeply religious? apparently that isnt the goal of atheists as much as it is to call religious people idiots. they really are not. its not their fault they were born into what they were born into. indoctrination is something people are often born into. that is the problem with religion, it is an objective answer to a question with no answer. so why call the victims of religion idiots?

  • God created life is not a satisfying answer. Because it answers nothing. The question still is how life came about - how did god come to be?

    God created everything answers nothing.

  • What a bunch of clapping idiots 6:10

  • @NarLiv shut up u stupid inbred trailer trash hillbilly

  • @crapcake101 inbred trailer trash hillbilly? Not sure how you came to that conclusion. Bad judge of character. You must be a be a christian.

  • Richard fucking rules !!

  • I'm sorry but I don't expect anything intelligent to come out of someones mouth who says "ARJUN" instead of origin. These are the people that I really don't care if they believe in god or not because they wouldn't make any contributions to progress even if they didn't. I say let the apes have their religion and leave them be.

  • it's logic

  • I live in the deep south. I am an atheist.

  • @JuniorDExchangecore ....hows that workin out for ya?

  • @JuniorDExchangecore Me too, I feel your pain.

  • @JuniorDExchangecore Shit man i know your pain.

  • Science has given us everything we use today; medicine, communications, transportation, energy etc.

Religion has given us bronze age beliefs, dogma, hierarchy, fraudulent claims etc.

Which do you think is better?

  • I don't have an ounce of scientific genes in me. I just can't get myself to be interested in science. So I don't think religion has much to do with our scientific progress. You're either born interest in science or not interested in science.

  • @neonaction agreeing with scientific explanations for phenomena vs religious myths doesn't mean you have to be good at measuring compounds in beakers and test tubes. You don't have to wear a lab coat or calculate orbital velocities to be interested in science on a more fundamental level. ie: knowing what the planets and stars really are instead of thinking they are the chariots of the gods.

  • @waitwhatwasthat I really respect science, let me be clear. : )

but I just think we are the product of our genes. One is either born a scientist or not a scientist. I think that was my point. You can't encourage someone to be interested in science. If some one like science, he will get into science without any body telling him to.

  • @neonaction as Dawkins said "You don't have to be a novelist to enjoy a good book" I think that's what I'm saying. You don't have to be a scientist to appreciate the wonderful things science can unveil about our universe.

  • 4:49 its called a zygote, you giant heap of fail.

  • 4 49 what a slut!

  • Alabama needs help. Those people should not be allowed to vote, they should be classified too stupid to have any influence in normal peoples lifes.

  • Alabama should cessede(wonder if I spell that right? my official language is not english) from the Union.

  • JimTL1000R you spelt usually wrong ;)

  • the 1st minute and a half reminds me of alan partridge ;) - both legends.

  • Religion is probably one of the main causes why we as a species aren't progressing as much as we should.

  • not probably but certainly!!! and whoever gave you thumbs down for this comment is an uneducated idiot!

  • Well, I idiot is such a strong description... but since that belief system and general refusal to accept the truth is dragging us down on the evolutionary ladder, then I might agree with you. It is indeed affecting us all.

Imagine if majority of the species constantly seeks the truth and true knowledge and not revolve their lives on 2000+ yr old hearsay.

We might have already colonized another planet by now. (Remember the movie "First Contact" where the mission was foiled by a creationist?

  • One of my favorite movies... and yes, we would surely be WAY ahead... no wars, no intellectual blockades... MAN!!!

  • @stojadinovicp religion and money

  • Yeah, if we all worked together, global warming isn't such a big issue because we already have a backup/sister planets!!

  • Wars were fought before primarily because of territory, now wars bog and small are fought mostly because of religion. Millions of lives are lost unnecessarily because of a misconception!

If ever there was a hell... it would be this planet.

  • @litetheory yes, but maybe its a layer of control so we may not progress uncontrollably fast...remember cancer is nothing but cells growing without control. Like you I'm also not a fan of religion, but maybe its necessary....just a thought....

  • @stevestoneee mmmm...who is implimenting the level of control...god? Maybe AIDS is a way of assuring the some humans don't become to old? Or maybe a broken leg is assuring that some people don't play football that following weekend.

It's an idea but I don't see it swimming.

  • @litetheory

Religious people don't believe in science, but they use microphones on their churches, The run to the doctor when they feel sick , the use mobile phones, cars, etc, etc.

  • How smart could people possibly be 2000 years ago to today? It 's like saying I was smarter at the age 10 then at 41.

  • Well, here's to hoping that by age 42 you'll have learned the difference between then and than. =P

  • It's going around you tube that when people leave comments and have to comment on typo's rather than substance, they usally have no substance.

  • Isn't odd how what might arguably usually be the case isn't exclusively the case? In other words, you're wrong. I wrote because you're lambasting people for being idiots, yet you haven't mastered the grammar commonly expected of 7 year old students. ^_^

  • If it wasn't for religion, Christopher Columbus may have hit the moon. If there is one thing religion does great...It keeps you dumb. Dumb and leaders in governement do not mix well for the free people.

  • AHH! it makes me so mad! so so very sad

  • The vigorous standby of The Bible as end-all-be-all truth is ironically a devolution.

  • As a U.S. atheist, I understand you guys' pain.

  • At first, I can't help but notice that most of the episodes in this series focus on the U.S. I'm Canadian, so maybe it's a little more difficult to understand that so many people believe this stuff (creationism) so strongly. I guess examples exist in other countries, but not as consistently as anywhere USA.
