  • I love that the guy says that the aircraft is quieter than a 747 during the loudest moments of the aircraft during reverse thrust and as soon as the engines go to idle, so we can really hear how quiet the aircraft is, he starts talking again.

  • @sattide. 1st class tickets are around the $25,000 for a flight between Here in Australia to the U.S you would be lucky to even pay less than $2,500 for economy (on QANTAS)

    The 747-8 is not an attempt of "desperation", it is simply another aircraft that is avaliable.. im not in favour of either, the A380 is an amazing aircraft and so is the 747, in service for over 20 years..

    if you know nothing about aviation at all, the economics or the aircraft themselves then dont post in these sections..

  • Probably for safety, if the taxi speed is high just in case a gust of wind comes up if the spoilers are deployed the wings won't make the plane tip. Just a guess. Or more likely the captain is just taking his time in lowering them.

  • i just rode this qantas a380 to & from sydney-lax

    this plane was amazing.

    the side of the walls were straight up & down, making the cabin feel a lot larger.

    the flight is almost dead silent too.

    it's amazingly quiet.

    the flight is also amazingly smoooth.

  • Yeah I think so too. The 787 might be a lot cheaper per plane/km. However, the A380 is a whole lot cheaper per passenger/km and that's a great deal for both passengers and airliners.

  • They didn't put the reverse thrusters on for engines 1 & 4.

  • eng 1 & 4 are not equipped with reversers.

  • Yes they did upgrade the the terminal & the runways, The Melbourne upgrade went for 24 hours a day because it's the only 24 hour airport in Australia.

  • I thought Melbourne had strange time restrictions. Whenever I fly there from Darwin the I always land there at day. And on the way back takeoff at day. My aunt said its because they don't want planes flying over the suburbs in the middle of the night or something like that.

  • No if you go to the Melbourne airport's website & the Melbourne direct website you will see that it is the only 24 hour airport in Australia as all the others have noise restrictions.

  • It's great to see that all the best airlines are going for the A380 Singapore Airlines, Qantas, Emirates, Virgin Atlantic, Lufthansa etc. I think it will only be a matter of time before American Airlines have to consider the A380. As airports get more cramped the need for such a high capacity aircraft grows and grows. The A380 is going to be a huge success.

  • Why do people keep comparing the A380 to Boeing 787? It's like comparing a bus to a car. They're completely different planes designed for completely different purposes. If you want to compare, then place the A380 against the 747-8 (when it enters service) and the 787 against the A350 (when they both enter service). Boeing designed the 747-8 to compete with the A380 and Airbus designed the A350 to compete with the 787.

  • The only thing I will compare is the inside cabin, the seats, the configuration and things that make a flight more enjoyable not necessarily the size of the plane.

    I am comparing comfort and interior design.

  • You don't need to wait for the 787 to enter service to make such comparisons. Furthermore - the cabin, seats, configuration and interior design are determined by the airlines; not the aircraft manufacturer.

  • Nice to see the A380 picking up speed in the Aviation Industry. Ever since I watched a documentary special of the aicraft in Discovery Channel (Worlds Biggest Airliner: Building the A380) I've been hooked by it. In fact I've flown it in a sim (X-Plane v9) and I can say it's a lot easier to fly (and LAND I might add) than a 747.

  • I am not a big fan of Airbus but it still looks really cool. I can't wait for the 787 to arrive but Boeing keeps pushing the dates back.

  • Why dont you like Airbus? The 787 isnt as large and there's nowhere near as much hype for it as there was for the A380. I mean, Germany's the only purchaser so far.

  • From all of the planes I have flown on I just have a preference for Boeing planes over Airbus not necessarily the 787 over the A380.

    I haven't been on the A380 and obviously the 787 to compare the two...yet! :)

  • You know, many Boeing jets are not as safe as Airbus jets. For example, the backup lines for cabling and hydraulics in the 737 run right next to the primary ones, I mean, why even have backups then? Airlines have asked Boeing to change it but they haven't done so. I think this is the case for several other boeing jets, and I think there are more problems like this. You should look it up.

  • because its a Foreign Aircraft doesn't mean its safer than american made because in 2001, the airbus A300 operated by american crashed after take off when it spend into turbulance, it lost its rudder and it fell and crash into a Auto repair shop

  • What runway do you mean? It landed on 25R but it may have taxied a bit on 24R to get out of way. It doesn't look like it was on 24L or 25L.

    FYI LAX is shaped like a U . On the out side is the two runways and on the curve is where the Bradley Terminal is (aka International Terminal). Maybe you are seeing where it is taxiing between the two runways.

  • Qantas is the only A380 coming to LAX right now. I believe there are 2 flights from Melborne and 1 flight from Sydney each week.

  • Bahaha sounds like the American media aren't better fact checkers than their Australian counterparts. The Qantas A380 only carries 450 passengers, that 489 number is from Emirates.

  • This particular news program is a more relaxed than some of it's competitors but it is more fun to watch. The gal in the helicopter call the Bradley International Terminal, the Bradley International Airport too.
