  • Great pick Mike - I loved the Outsiders! I must say Time Won't Let Me is my favorite, but I love Sonny's vocals on anything - and still today! Saw him live just a week ago - amazing -

  • Nice vid! ... Nice presentation! ... Thanks for sharing.

  • I think you've help me make my case. I think when you think of Early R&B, Doo-Wop,

Rockabilly etc, where does Cleveland fit into this? The Magnificents don't count. It's comparable to Odessa Texas claiming to be the "heart of rock and roll" because of the Velvets two hits and getting the city fathers to pony up millions to build a rock and roll museum, ridiculous. I assume your from Cleveland?

  • @luviananna ---Like many things in life, it often has to do with politics and who puts up the most money. Nonetheless, I still think it should be in Cleveland.....even though I am not from there.

  • @MusicMike2 What a great Channel.

What and where is the video of the kids dancing

    from?

    Nice video, thanks mike!!!!

  • Alan Freed was indeed born in Penn. and later moved to Ohio as you stated I do however, believe that his prominence as a DJ was due to moving to WINS. The main

thrust of my argument is that how in the world is Cleveland considered the birthplace of rock and roll? Maybe you can straighten me out on that score. In regards to your previous correction concerning the song "what kind of girl is this", On the east coast where I come from (NYC) the outsiders version is almost unknown.

  • @luviananna --Cleveland disc jockey Alan Freed is widely credited with promoting the new genre (and the term) of "rock and roll". Cleveland was the location of the first rock and roll concert. Civic leaders in Cleveland pledged $65 million in public money to fund the Hall Of Fame. A petition drive was signed by 600,000 fans favoring Cleveland over Memphis, and a USA Today poll which Cleveland won by 100,000 votes. The hall of fame board voted to build the museum in Cleveland. (wikipedia)

  • How the hell is Cleveland the center of rock and roll? No Jazz, no Blues, No doo-wop nada. Alan Freed was a NYer. Eric Carmen and the Human Beinz don't qualify a City to be the birthplace of rock and roll

  • @luviananna --You're wrong about Freed. He was born in Pennsylvania but moved to Ohio at a young age. His early radio career and the "Moondog" show began on Ohio radio stations in Youngstown, Akron and Cleveland. Yes, Freed worked in New York....but is not a "New Yorker".

  • The Isley brothers had the most popular and played version of this song

  • @luviananna --- My channel is based on the Billboard "HOT 100" Hit Music chart. The Isley Brothers version didn't chart there at all. Yes, it may have made the R&B chart....but we don't follow that chart on "Flashback Favorites". The Outsiders made it to #15.

  • This song rocks....no two ways about it....

  • spent a buck on this jam and loved it.

  • WIXY radio darn near wore this out back in the day in Cleveland, I liked it better than Time won't let me....great childhood memories!!!

  • graet 60s song.....love it!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Correction: What Kind of Love Is This by Joey Dee . . no wonder I was/am confused lol.

  • This is one of those songs where the title isn't what I thought it was when it was out . . not until years later did I learn it wasn't "What Kind of Girl Is This" lol. The version I remember was by Joey Dee and the Starlighters

  • Thanks for posting. This is such an exciting and differnt song. Surely more exciting than any of their others... to me anyway. Lovin it. Cheers.

  • Hey Music Mike2! Can you tell me who did the most played version of this song?

  • Great post. I heard this on the radio yesterday....first time I can remember this

ever on the radio. was on Sirrius 60s. I think this was the Outsiders best record

but for some reason it gets no airplay. Great job on the video.

  • I remember this lol 58 yrs old here. great song

  • Awesome video of the era that rocks great with this tune. The kids look great, the dance and music just like I remember it. Thanks to Mike and whoever put this incredible piece together.

  • @TheRebeccaRuth --- Thanks very much,,,

  • I saw them live in Chicago at Teen World Fair, and I knew they had another hit, but the speaker here is absolutely right, it doesn't get played hardly at all. I knew they had two top twenty hits. And it took a little search to find this. Thanks, brings back memories.

  • @froggietwanger Wow Man... you talk about one of the greatest shows of our generation. The Outsiders, The Cryan' Shames, The Robbs... The days when our generation RULED

  • Why is that? Cleveland? Because Alan Freed a New Yorker had a radio show there?

  • There's a reason that The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is in Cleveland, Ohio.

  • Real cool dancing like this ah great

  • It don't get any better than this, rock on

  • ....AWESOM!!! GREAT job on this video, very, very well done!! I LOVE the Outsiders, I have this 45 single, but I'm jealous of how neat all of Mike's records are! I 1000's of 45's, CD's, LP's, 12"s maxi singles & CD maxi's, but there all over my F**KIN' house, & not in such a orderly fashion. any, who, thanks for posting another classic pop gem!! Peace Gary in Easton PA USA.

  • Classic 1960s Hit By The Outsiders! Great Song & Video!

  • Yeah.. Cleveland was cool back then,The Outsiders were one of my favorite Bands. Thanks .

  • I was in a band that opened for them at The Red Dog Inn in Wichita, Kansas in either 66 or 67 (Time won't let me remember the year). Nice bunch of guys. We had a good time with them. We played this song every night. We had a horn section and there weren't many horn songs in that era. Good post.

  • Good tune! ... rarely hear this one!

  • Ted Alexander played this on WELW...Remember Ted, Chris, Tony, Len--"The men from music"

Oh, and the Walnettos, they even had Artie Johnson from Laugh In involved with a local promotion! ....RIP Chris

  • This was a hit and was released in 1966

  • Comment removed

  • and a good version this is too

  • Guys, The Isley Brothers 1959 version is the original

  • i couldn't find The Isley's but found The Outsiders, a good band, and a great introduction to the tune

  • Gr8 tune forgot about it thanks 4 postings

  • Bought this 45 way back when. High energy sound. Rock.

  • One of the better songs that didn't get much play. It has a Bill Deal/Rhondels, beach music sound.

  • @clinchco A great song that had several good versions, but the Outsiders was my favorite. BD and Rhondells from my home state of VA had a good version of it themselves.

  • This is a great song, I think it is the Outsiders best. She's so respectable.

  • Nice to hear that song again

  • The Isley Brothers also did a good job on this tune.

  • never got the airplay it deserved.really defined the rock era.

  • Thanks for posting this It has always been one of my favorites.

  • Thanks- great song from the Outsiders! Ron
