Please tell me that this is coming from someone who LIVED through the 80s? For the next 200 years or so the most powerful country in the world will be determined by its naval power. The USA's navy is better than Russia's navy or China's navy. No other super-power can attack us with their navy. This was true for Great Britain until WW2, until America's industrial power took control.

From a supply base 3,500 miles away . The wonder is not that we lost but that we managed to fight for 8 years ! My PC can run Medieval 2 Total war absolutely fine unless I chock the battle full of thousands of man, then a small amount of lag occurs, and on the campaign map lag an occur, however it can easily be 'removed' by exiting the game and then coming back, then it runs as smooth as ever. Should my PC be able to run Empire and Napoleon total war?

My PC can run Medieval 2 Total war absolutely fine unless I chock the battle full of thousands of man, then a small amount of lag occurs, and on the campaign map lag an occur, however it can easily be 'removed' by exiting the game and then coming back, then it runs as smooth as ever. Should my PC be able to run Empire and Napoleon total war?

Plus you had to outnumber us 11 to 1. 11,500 French soldiers. So no, it was FRANCE's victory, NOT an American one.
Plus we controlled 1/4 of the globe. You can't handle a few rabid Turbans.
Russia destroyed them in five years, and you GAVE the taliban stinger missiles. You made the war.

Question: My computer runs Rome Total War fairly well on normal graphic settings, most of the time smoothly with more then 1000 units at once. Do you think Empire Total War would work? :D

I love how each soldier has his own walk and style; you can even tell that the units are getting eager or nervous too. They should make a "Last of the Mohicans" Total War, where the British face off the French and Native American tribes in the forests of colonial North America!

@PANDABOIII The assumption that British arms are currently supplied by the US is quite an easy error to make. The US spends more on 'defense' and arms production than the next top 15 nations combined. Also US weapons have made their way into 92% of world conflicts since... um, I don't remember the date of the statistic, but the world's most popular weapon, the AK-47, is US made, and there is eatimated to be more US made weapons in existance than weapons made anywhere else.

My lasting impression was that the AK-47 was American made, which at the time seemed strange but I don't think I checked it with another source. Anyway, I rechecked the facts today, and it turns out my wording is the problem. The AK-47 is of Russian design, however there are many variants, of which several are manufactured in the Unied States by about 15 different companies.

@PANDABOIII (From below) The US arms industry has a monopoly in the US and to achieve growth, competes with itself by selling current or current-isk equipment to foriegn militaries to force the US Government into funding more research. Like selling F-18s to France to force the production of the F-22s. Bottom line, the one industry the US still dominates is Arms Production, and its weapons are everywhere.
Still, a rematch w/ Britain wouldn't occur, the US is too relient on allies to pay debt.

Do you even have basic understandings of how Britain got drawn into the war? Well, if not - Britain was in an arms race with GERMANY since BEFORE 1900. Germany was threatening the British naval power, and Britain INITIALLY went to war in reaction to Germany attacking HER allies on the continent eg France. It was a massive 'domino effect'. Britain fought.

why is irrelevant, what happened after the assasination proved england gambled alot and gained nothing by 1918. You proved in both 1914 and 1940 that you couldnt hold ground. You had high expectations but performance didnt equal it.
You can brag all you want about having the largest empire by 1922, but no empire fell faster and lost so much in a 20 year period.

What can be said for Britain, is that without her playing a massive hand in both World Wars, Allied Victory would have been IMPOSSIBLE. Britain fought ferociously in Africa, and ACTUALLY, Britain was up against Rommels AFRIKA KORPS - aka best unit in the Nazis outside of the SS. And this was only after WE BATTERED 200,000 + Italians. Don't even bother disgracing the British effort in the war. Without us the world would have fallen to the Nazis. We were like the annoying thorn in Hitlers side.

But RUSSIA declared war on Austria-Serbia after GERMANY decided to declare war on SERBIA. Then it got real weird. GERMANY invaded FRANCE and BELGIUM. BRITAIN rallied to support her allies, France and Belgium, using all her Hyperpowers multi-national strength. Canadians, Indians, New Zealanders, Australians...

Gurkhas, Irish, South Africans, Free French, Free Belgians and English, Scottish and Welsh (latter 3 the bulk) as well as some from Northern Ireland...all fought for Britain...who in turn who fighting for France and Belgium - which the German Empire savagely attacked under the Schlieffen Plan (wildily successful three pronged attack, nearly cost us the war, though the British held the line in Flanders not far off the coast just in time) 4 years of bloodshed, and near the end, USA jumps in :P

As for WWII....piss off. That was our finest hour, our last imperial gift to the world. Holding the Nazis alone in the Western theatre for a long time, and defeating the Luftwaffe - which prevented the Nazis from landing and turning Britain and Ireland into HEAVILY defended forts in the seas that the USA would have had to liberate before even daring to sneak past and attack France to begin the haul to Berlin, hence preventing perhaps millions of US casualties in doing so (consciously or not)
