The Immaculate Reception is really overrated, it's more a top 20 area. Deflections happen all the time, I understand circumstance has to be taken into account, but on the title "Spectacular Plays", it shouldn't be number one. Hell, Stokely did the same thing with the Broncos.
Music City Miracle got away with a forward lateral and the Immaculate Reception was on a broken play. I don't even like golf, but the Tiger Woods shot was one in a billion. That should have been #1.
@k3wlchick Do u know anything about baseball? thats the most famous catch ever. He wasnt looking at the ball he was basically looking over his shoulder and got very lucky (not saying that it wasnt great) I bet you cant even catch a baseball when someone throws it to u from 5 ft away. Do u know how hardit is to catch a ball going 85mph? One wrong move and you cant catch that. You know nothing about sports.
@k3wlchick Oh yea i forgot thats the longest stadium in history. Polo Grounds. in left in right field its less than 300 ft but in center field its like 500 ft you couldnt run that far. and guess what that guy is related to barry bonds
@k3wlchick At that time no one made catches like that they woulda let it go to the wall normally back then. Thats a major historical catch not to mention its won the game for them.
no it was a laderal cus wichek (wrong spelling) threw the ball was over the line and when dyson caught it his fot was behind the line and he caught the the ball eqully to wher wichek threw it
@patrickstar10278288 Yes TD! Not only was this reviewed on the play, but it has been reviewed ad nauseum on just about every single sports show on just about every single sports network since it happened. Frank Wycheck released the ball exatly or just ahead of the 35 yard line, and Dyson came back to catch an inch behind the 35 yard line. It doesn't matter where Dyson was when the ball was thrown. It matters where he caught the ball. Unless you live in Buffalo, that was a good lateral and a TD.
@adion33 It was the right call. It has been examined over and over and over. It's been plugged into computer simulations and it's been examined by experts in physics and mathematics. Everything short of sending it to NASA or MIT has been done and the overwhelming majority of people agree that it was infact a lateral, the call was correct, and it was a good TD. Unless you live in Buffalo or are a fan of the Bills, you know this was the correct call.
I'm a little shocked that the Stars empty net miss with 8 seconds left and then come back down the ice by the Oilers and tie the game with 2 seconds left wasn't on there. Probably in the top 10 though.
I was at 18 when Tiger made that crazy chip down at 16. I have never in the 12 years that I have been to the Masters heard a roar that was that loud and lasted for that long. Definitely my sentimental number 1, but all of the top 5 are plays that are once in a lifetime occurences that legends are born from.
what makes #2 more special is that you have to remember that the polo grounds was crazy deep in ceter field... so balls hit out there were usually uncatchable but willy had to be running for dear life to get to that ball and then the no-look catch is way harder than it looks..
Oh and as far as #4... GO TITANS!!! I was there for that play... Unforgettable..
does anybody know if the song being played during Doug Flutie's throw has a name. The number 5 top play? There aren't any words but I have heard it so many times now, and want to know the name of the song.
it wasn't a forward pass.. obviously tha'ts why it counts. look at it again. quaterback was at the 25, the receiver had to run back to the 25 to catch the ball.
does anybody know the name of the song playing during the beginning of this video? the song playing during flutie and the throw-wish?

Strange that you find it dump instead of dumb. Besides, I think everybody would rather see just numbers 5-1 than just numbers 50-6.

God, Tiger woods is a monster.
I wish there had been more variation in the top 5. Three out of five of them being football plays seems sort of unnecessary.
They're all awesome though.

Also in #2 there was men on 1st and second and when he made the catch only one of the guys moved up thats part of the reason its so great
nicerackuu 2 years ago
For those of you who don't find #2 particularly impressive compared to the other plays here, keep these two things in mind:
A. Center field at Polo grounds was 483 ft. Imagine running past the outfield wall at Ranger Stadium, up the hill, and then some (distance-wise).
B. It preserved a tie late in game 1 of the world series, which the Giants won in extras.
eventhisnameistaken9 2 years ago
Bob Feller said this:
"There are three things that make that catch so memorable.
1. It was a great catch.
2. It was in the World Series.
3. It was on national television."

the willie mays catch is the most overrated play in sports, period.
And it was not a forward lateral, it was straight across the line (25 yd line i think)...watch it from another angle

that play saved the game for the giants and also do you know how hard it is to catch a ball like that?
