I've seen this done in a way that emphasizes way too much on the erotic part of this song (don't ask). Even though there is eroticism in this piece, it's essentially comedic. Jane knew how to balance the eroticism and comedy without it being awkward/uncomfortable. MUCH easier said than done.

This is a wonderful performance, and I loveeee Jane so much, but after seeing Nine the movie, I always picture a Latina as Carla, especially with the accent! I like Penelope's version better, although I do like this one. I find this one more comedic then sexy, as Penelope's was.

She's perhaps one of the most underrated performers out there.

Her song "You" is great!

This is great. However, the late, amazing Anita Morris (whom I saw perform this role 3 times in the original production) was just beyond. In her form-fitting black lace body suite (it looked like it was see-through, but really wasn't) was a sight to behold. And she was a really sweet person as well. I shmoozed with her for a while at a signing when the album was released. She is certainly missed.

Penelope Cruz literally filmed this number for the movie of 'Nine' over the last week or so. She blistered all her hands hanging on!! I can't see she'd be anywhere near as good as Jane at singing it! We'll have to wait for the movie to see!

Just letting you know, Penelope is a trained dancer and singer (see La Nina de tus Ojos were she dances and sing in spanish and german and she won almost major awards in Europe for her acting as well). I think she will do good. Different, of course, but good!!!

Oh definitely. And Rob Marshall knows how to make a musical. He stunned us with the fabulous show stopping numbers in Chicago, and I have hope that he'll do it again with "Nine". Just from that, I trust that he knows how to chose his actors and actresses for roles, and if he chose Penelope, then he means to wow everyone with not only her performance in the movie, but everyone else's as well.
