It's interesting that in the early days of the Mothers, FZ could write great melodies like this one. The first Mothers LPs were considered quite avant-garde. Now they just seem to be great records chock full of tunes.
Zappa's popularity grew as his melodic skills seemed to diminish, leading us to sub-par albums like "The Man From Utopia." Give me "We're Only In It for the Money" anyday.
Apart from the fact that they are being played amazingly well, on a genius composition, it still baffles me how good the drums sound on this record. Superlative!
god he could do anything,so diverse, brilliant,, an antidote to the idiotic dumbus down, pop "music " crap of the continuous barrage of gov't/corporate approved stupidity variety,,, spread the word of genius...
Best Frank song of them all, and there are quite a few. Many a buzzed night at Northwestern U in the early 70's appreciating Frank and life; thank goodness Frank is there for the unbuzzed nights of late.
Wow, I love this song! Frank was definitely one of the most influential musicians in Rock and Roll and Jazz history. His music is timeless, and this song clearly illustrates why.
Which format do you prefer? As a self confessed vinyl junkie I reckon the CD version is doing a disservice to a brilliant piece of music/studio production - the original throws franks grit shiftin guitar to the fore and everything else is in balance - the CD mix just buggers it all up

I'll take hanging out with The Son of Mr. Green Genes over a plate of Peaches en Regalia any day. This is by far, my favorite track on Hot Rats.

One of my favourite Zappa songs, and it's hard to pick between this, Peaches en Regalia and The Gumbo Variations.

You should invest in another album of Frank's. They're all good..not just Hot Rats.

Why was this a reply to me? I have around 30 Zappa albums.

Best album ever. One of the very limited albums I have on LP as well on CD.
This album is like a Bolero in reverse. It starts hectic, it ends really laidback and relaxed! :D

I prefer the LP version over the CD version. I'm just one of those people that loves the good old media like MC's, LP's and Betamax :D
