@Skaterdon77 I understand marching with better horns. . . but you have to give us credit for what we did with the horns we had. . . At least they weren't Dynasty.
I agree! I think our sound was pretty darn good for using what we had. I remember hearing some Dynasty hornlines warming up around us...best Brad quote I can think of at the moment: "Play with good tone! GOOD TONE IS IN!" loud enough so the Glassmen hornline could hear.
every time i hear this opener i get chills. i watched them play this show so many times over the summer. when we were on tour we made sure to watch the blue stars for the music.
Now that the Blue Devils is picking up King Ultimate Brass, I think that brand will become the standard in DCI. The horns just produce an awesome sound.
Yamahas probably wouldn't fit the style. Cadets make it work with a similar (not the same) brass program, but Kings will really take what BD will put into them without sounding really, really bad. Dynasties just barely kept that under control.
I sure do. Did you hear them? the high brass sounded fine, but the euphs and tubas were just lost in it. No depth to the sound. Of course, there were other factors, but the change in sound from '08 to '09 is too big to just count out.
You dont think it had to do with the massive amounts of rooks? Jupiters low brass horns are amazing. They are so dark sounding... The guys that created the damn horns are tuba players!
Like i said, there's other factors. Have you heard Academy? They don't sound too dark on Jupiters. Personally, I wouldn't want tuba players designing a marching euph or baritone, and I know for a fact that the baris are just King copies. Dark doesn't always translate to good, btw.
This is one of those moments you just can't help smiling.

Ummm, I was in that hornline and we marched King. I would respond to the rest of your comments but don't care to waste my time.

You're not wrong, but it's not always the horn that makes the better sound - it's the player. To each his own. =]

lolz989 2 years ago
@lolz989 It's the opening hit of the show. Commonly referred to by corps members as 6a to the end of part one.

Except that, ahem, Yamahas are better.

@Burgerbob22
Question is why didn't the Blue Devils go back to Yamaha?
