Those mushroom clouds are beautiful. But we need to avoid nuclear war. The music here is fitting, sounds like something from Benny Andersson & Bjorn Ulvaeus of ABBA. The sun itself is a hydrogen bomb.
This is most certainly a landmark film. I bought a copy after seeing parts of it on u-boob. A lot of beautifully restored archive footage is used. Peter Kuran's special effects are awesome. He's responsible for the special effects in movies like Star Wars, Star Trek II and V, Robocop, Addams Family. Narrated by William Shatner. Music by William Stromberg performed by the Moscow Symphony. Rent it or buy it. It's riveting.
I don't know how I got here! This is frightening, and to think I was 28 days old when this horror took place. I must say though, the piece of music goes perfectly with the film footage.
@trent4245 Quite so. The thermal radiation from the explosion, better known as the 'flash', is enough to give people far away 1st degree burns, depending on distance from and yield of the explosion. The flash alone can give you either temporary or permanent eye injuries.
In a certain way, you can compare a nuclear explosion to the sun. When you stand in direct sunlight you feel the warmth, you see the blinding light when looking into the sun. Only you're much closer to it..
@trent4245 Quite so. The thermal radiation from the explosion, better known as the 'flash', is enough to give people far away 1st degree burns, depending on distance from and yield of the explosion. The flash alone can give you either temporary or permanent eye injuries.

@IcelandicJoe The heat given off by Nucelar explosions is comparable to the temperature at the core of the sun (27 million F). Say for instance this is a Fusion bomb which would rappidly and violently fuse H into He which builds up ernormous energy, it takes at least 15 million F to fuse H. It is hot enough to turn almost anything into ash. You will get vapourized as close as 15 kilometers.
@trent4245 Demolished? Well it depends on the distance and the bomb power. If you're really close, you could even get evaporated(best death during nuclear assault if you ask me) otherwise if you are located further away, yeah, if you're wearing dark clothes they can burst in flames. Either way thermal radiation is able to cause you 3rd degree burns. Rest assure, blast wave that follows always ends your roasting misery.
No fucking wonder the incidence of cancer have skyrocketed. Fuck these arseholes! Who gave them the right to totally fuck up our planet? Fucking dumbass dickheads. Throw them and all there shit in the crater and fucking back-fill it.
@Myusernamerulez Misleading? Do you think inter-molecular reactions could produce so much power? No sir, you need something really hot, like nuclear fission to cause fusion in which hydrogen isotopes(most suitable fusion fuel) transform into plasma. And then you get tiny little short lived sun on the Earth.
Even if you could somehow ignite a hydrogen bomb without fission the hydrogen bomb alone would still count as an atomic bomb.
Um yes I do. The sun and other stars seem to utilize fusion pretty well without the use of a fission tamper. Yes I know modern H-Bombs use a fission explosion to get them started but they are called Hydrogen bombs b/c almost 100% of the energy comes from the fusion process. There are such things as fusion boosted fission weapons that still get most of their energy from fission, and are still called Atomic bombs. H-Bombs =/= A-Bombs.
@Myusernamerulez Can you give me slightest logical explanation why Plutonium/Uranium bombs should be counted as atom bombs, but not just simply as plutonium/uranium bombs, and on the other hand why Hydrogen bombs should not be included within the atom bomb group?
@Myusernamerulez Actually, a significant amount of the energy yield of a hydrogen bomb still comes from fission, at least when using the Teller-Ulam design.
@Myusernamerulez Yep. Quite higher than 10%. The extra percentage comes from the fission of the U235 tamper surrounding and included inside (sometime make of Pu) the fusion product's container. Normally, the U235 wouldn't undergo fission even if it was used in a normal nuclear weapon, but with the extra heat and pressure created by the fusion reaction, the U235 undergoes fission and releases energy. The whole "explosion" is known as a fission-fusion-fission process because of this fact.
"Now I am death, the destroyer of worlds, annihilating all things." Bhagavad Gita, Ch 11, Verse 32 and the thought that went through Oppenheimer's mind as the first atomic bomb was tested at the Trinity site in July 1945. Using these weapons to destroy an asteroid or some other cosmic intruder in space, far enough away not to harm the earth's atmosphere, is possibly the only good reason I can think of to use these bombs.
Humanity as a whole is just a group of stupid, selfish, ungrateful group of cowardice pigs. If they don't want to damage Planet Earth with nuclear weapons than why did they go on to invent them! They have their "ultimate" weapon and now they don't want to use it! Now bad guys have their hands on it! Just press the button and clean this planet with a good rinse off of atomic fire. The End
somebody forgot TSAR BOMB??? Every country can throw athomic bomb and distroy us? Thats so stupid to show power on eath on wich you are living, our planet will die soon, and I havent seen your happy faces with a radiation yet.
this was the second bigest bomb ever detonated on the planet. the first was the tsar bomba a soviet hydrogeon bomb that was originally measured at 100megatons
@forthepeeps345 Tsar bomba had a yield of only 57 megatons because the tamper on the device was made of pure Pb to limit radiocactive contamination of the environment. If built with a Uranium 238 (no need to waste Ur-235 here) tamper that tamper would have undergone fission from "fast" neutorns coming from the thermonuclear 2nd and 3rd stages, such a bomb would have been more dowerful but also much more "dirty". Remember that fission of Ur nuclei is 10 time as energetic as fusion!
I love how everyone talks shit on the US but they shut their mouths when they see this because they know we could fuck their country up the ass with a black nuclear dick.
@Ballsosteel123 I think maybe 10 other countries have nukes.. most of these have nowhere near as many as the US (Russia may have more) and most don't have ICBMs. Russia, China, and England all have videos of their tests too, man.
@rlax106 The Scary thing is that the soviet union could build big with the Tsar bomb but the US could build big to and not only build big but be able to cram it up a Russians ass from half a world away with 100% accuracy.
@rlax106 you're so fucking arrogant. the Ruskies may not have as good technology as us, but theyre catching up. look up the PAK FA. now u think we shit on them?

Yeah. .. The deadly force, couldn't even deal with a small country like vietnam, ... Us is the best, the greatest. .. God wake up. .. You can't even feed your own people. .. You don't need other countries to threaten you, you pretty much destroy yourselves. ..
@rlax106 yeah, but theres dozens of other countries that already have the capability or can get the ability to arm themselves with nukes. thats why the U.S does NOT eff around with the possibility of a religious zealot with a nuclear device.
Aahhhhem... More like a Medium sized nuclear dick, compared to Tsar Bomba - a 50 MT RED nuclear dick(downscaled from 100 MT, due to "ecological implications" - which meant they couldn't explode such an omelette without breaking quite a few Human "eggs". @startinsomethin All depends on the weapon design (it's explosive yield, burst type, etc.) but for Hydrogen-nukes, at least 10-20 miles in radius would be very intense radiation (heat, gamma, etc) plus the pressure wave would likely kill. Within 5 miles and you'd likely be vaporized within a few milliseconds.
@britishsas123 Indeed there is, what's known as a dimensional analysis:
R = c [(Et^2)/p)^1/5]
After the boring math part... for a 1 megaton blast, the initial fireball (at roughly time = 0.25 seconds is 0.48 km. Comparatively for a 15 Mt blast (Castle Bravo) that's 2.3 km in perhaps a second (or two).
@startinsomethin For modern 15 Mt hydrogen bomb safe radius for surviving initial radiation wave is about 25-30 km, shockwave is dangerous 50 km away from GZ and heat strongly depends on atmospherical conditions, but can be a serious problem even 60-80km away if the sky is clear. Combining these at least 100 km away is "safe" (this is for civilian in his brick house with wooden roof).
BTW: Fallout resulted from Bravo was due to fission yield (over 10 Mt from fission and only 5 from fusion).
Those mushroom clouds are beautiful. But we need to avoid nuclear war. The music here is fitting, sounds like something from Benny Andersson & Bjorn Ulvaeus of ABBA. The sun itself is a hydrogen bomb.

Combining these at least 100 km away is "safe" (this is for civilian in his brick house with wooden roof).
BTW: Fallout resulted from Bravo was due to fission yield (over 10 Mt from fission and only 5 from fusion).

Wow. Two and a half times the expected yield. Somebody forgot to carry the one? I'll bet they went on to take a job in NASA's Mars programs.

@magick205
Carry the one? They just put the decimal point in the wrong place.
