This was very sad... b/c of the ticket promotion, there were sooo many babies on board this flight. All the mothers were asked (as that was the policy), to lay the infants on the floor and hold them down with one hand. The mothers lost the grip as the planed flipped.... very sad.

Exactly. It was amazing they even made it to the airport. His ( pilots) talent and bravery kept her in the air while the airport was shut down, airspace cleared, and emergency teams were prepared. Few people realize this was even more remarkable than the "miracle on the Hudson" . He basiclly controlled an "out of control " plane.
Yeah it's amazing he did it by just the engine throttle, it's possible, but VERY difficult due to the engine's delayed response. Cpt Al Haynes also saved more lives than he lost, and when he found out the results he felt really bad for the ones he lost. He was a good pilot, and in the face of danger I don' t think too many other pilots would be as reserved and resourceful.

Incredibly enough, the pilot and co-pilot survived this. #2 engine disintegrated and destroyed the plane's hydraulics, pilots used thrust to turn. It could've been far worse.
Capt. Al Haines retired some time later; on board his final flight were the crew and most of the survivors of the crash.
The pilot flew this plane with ZERO flight controls. He managed to fly the plane hundreds of miles to this airport in Iowa and almost land it with nothing more that the throttle controls... Amazing job... miracle for sure that anyone survived.

I saw this on discovery chanel. The whole hydraulics system had lost pressure and they had no ailerons or ruders control, the only way to turn the plane was changing their 2 wing engines power to low one of the wings and for lowering or increasing the altitude their used the both engines power and the flaps. The third engine had exploded causing this accident from a microscopic propeller fisure. Almost half of the passengers died and all the crew survived I believe.
The DC10 had some bad crashes early on, but the safety record improved. It's accident rate is just a little bit higher than the Airbus A310 and the 747.

And then you have that British Airways flight where the captain got sucked out the window and survived, had three different flight attendants hanging on to him, and survived, and the copilot landed the plane unaided. There are many amazing things in the world of aviation this is just one of them that tops the list. DC-10s have a bad history just because of competition against boeing. They could have been completely fucked if it had been the cargo door again.

This was very sad... b/c of the ticket promotion, there were sooo many babies on board this flight. All the mothers were asked (as that was the policy), to lay the infants on the floor and hold them down with one hand. The mothers lost the grip as the planed flipped.... very sad.

@TheBullshitDetector He wasn't an idiot, He couldn't control the plane. I recognized the footage. It was a DC10 in which the #2 engine fan disk shattered and cut through all the hydraulic lines. They have minimal control of it and did their best to make an emergency landing. If you want to know the facts look up UA flight 232.

Exactly. It was amazing they even made it to the airport. His ( pilots) talent and bravery kept her in the air while the airport was shut down, airspace cleared, and emergency teams were prepared. Few people realize this was even more remarkable than the "miracle on the Hudson" . He basiclly controlled an "out of control " plane.

Yeah it's amazing he did it by just the engine throttle, it's possible, but VERY difficult due to the engine's delayed response. Cpt Al Haynes also saved more lives than he lost, and when he found out the results he felt really bad for the ones he lost. He was a good pilot, and in the face of danger I don' t think too many other pilots would be as reserved and resourceful.

Incredibly enough, the pilot and co-pilot survived this. #2 engine disintegrated and destroyed the plane's hydraulics, pilots used thrust to turn. It could've been far worse.
Capt. Al Haines retired some time later; on board his final flight were the crew and most of the survivors of the crash.

The pilot flew this plane with ZERO flight controls. He managed to fly the plane hundreds of miles to this airport in Iowa and almost land it with nothing more that the throttle controls... Amazing job... miracle for sure that anyone survived.

I saw this on discovery chanel. The whole hydraulics system had lost pressure and they had no ailerons or ruders control, the only way to turn the plane was changing their 2 wing engines power to low one of the wings and for lowering or increasing the altitude their used the both engines power and the flaps. The third engine had exploded causing this accident from a microscopic propeller fisure. Almost half of the passengers died and all the crew survived I believe.

The DC10 had some bad crashes early on, but the safety record improved. It's accident rate is just a little bit higher than the Airbus A310 and the 747.
