Hi Pal - nice Demo i can vouch for the Blackstar crunch tones - i have a series 1 45 combo - absolutely superb sound - i'm dead greedy though and want another flavour - what is you preference - the Pinnacle by Wampler or the Rothwell Switchblade - both sound great to me. Try the Wampler Ecstacy if you get the chance - a bit twitchy but super sweet when you hit the spot - you can get a great overdrive/fuzz breakup from it - Cheers S.P.
@slugpumper1 I haven't tried the Ecstacy yet but I hope to at some point. I do like my Rothwell gear (I should, I make videos for them!) and right now my rig has three Rothwell pedals in there and one cheap anologue delay I've fallen for. I still have a soft spot for the BlackStar though.
It's a shame those who post feel they must apologise for the "shortcomings" of their vids. Never mind all the assholes out there. Your vid was just fine. Thank you for posting it. I have a 6505, but I still use dist pedals thru the clean channel as well as use the amp's distortion, so what? It doesn't kill babies or cause puppies to suffocate or anything. In fact, my OCD thru the crunch mode turns my 6505 into an "el-34 transvestite".
@boabstewart Well, the Peavey wasn't mine (I only had it in to write a review) but it was all rigged up to go and I fancied doing a video about the HT-Dist. I tried to get a fairly standard clean tone which I felt conveyed the pedal rather well. I will be doing a couple of guitar vids soon using the HT-Dist but probably just going through a small, and cheap, Fender Super Champ XD. Maybe that will be more to your liking? Thanks for watching anyway though and I always appreciate comments :)
Nice review and awesome playing, but i do a question for you! :)
How will the Blackstar drive work with my Line 6 Spider III? Will it sound better than the built in distortion, or will it disappoint me like every single distortion pedal does?
If you don't get rid of that amp every distortion will still dissapoint you. I think you should better save up for a good amp. The pedal is really really cool though
@topografer Hi, I'm a little confused by what you mean here. The amp wasn't actually mine (I write reviews for guitar magazines so it was just passing through, twice so far for that amp) but I think it's a great amp as it happens. I don't think I was at all disappointed in it even though it's not really my preferred type of amp.
@topografer Hi, so sorry I missed you comment. I honestly couldn't say as I haven't actually tried the dual for myself. However, I did ask a friend who works in a music shop and he says he believe this is the case.
@topografer are you really implying that the 3120 is a bad amp? because you are severely mistaken. You don't even need a distortion pedal for the amp, it sounds fine on it's own.
@metallica5252 Apparently he didn't mean that (or it got lost in translation). The 3120 certainly does sound fine on its own (my favourite Peavey amp so far)
I actually bought the distx and it sounds pretty dark surprisingly. It gives tons of thump in the power amp but a little too much if you ask me. In the clean preamp, it can be easily tweaked and sounds so punishing through it. Wanna listen on my channel?
how would this pedal sound directly into the power amp section? if it sounds good or better that way, i think i want it because my amp's preamp sucks haha.
it could show how the pedal is eq'd and if it can be used as a preamp and shows how good the 3120's power amp is (as well as the preamp) on its own :]
Sadly the 3120 has gone back now (I only had it in to review it for a magazine). I have a spider Valve2 here at the moment so that would have to do but it could be a week or two before I have enough time to make a vid.
I know it's been ages but there hasn't been a chance to record a vid for your question yet. I did try it and it seems okay though I do prefer it through a clean pre-amp to be honest. You can also use the emulated output through your power amp, that can be interesting and it takes off some of the "edges".
It's all down to what you want. If you enjoy your zoom pedal and are happy with it then it's a winner. If you want a valve driven overdrive pedal, which really isn't all that expensive for what it is, then the Blackstar is worth a look.

@Haydensmusic Hello again can i ask you something. Do you know if the HT dual's second channel is the same as this one?

great metal sound! how it gos with other pedal... like wah or somthing?
jonathanbenaroche 2 years ago
It works fine with wah. I've used it with a dunlop wah and the Ibanez weeping demon without any problems at all.

Nice playing H.
Excuse me, because I'm an amature guitarist, but why splash out on pricey pedals, when my cheap second hand Zoom505 pedal seems to do the job?
Cheers RD.
