Well, technically from a chronological standpoint, RA1, and possibly even 2 and 3 could have happened before the First Tiberium War, I'm not sure if they ever give specific dates. Given from what we've seen of Kane, the simple fact that he's lived through all three Tiberium Wars shows at least some form of immortality, no reason to believe he wasn't pulling the strings in the RA timeline all along.

This was the plan: Westwood wanted to tie in RA1 with the Tiberian universe, but they decided to change their mind because it was a bit silly of an idea. RA2 happens in a seperate universe than RA1. I don't think they try to justify it, but if you want you can pretend it's due to the time travel. In all honesty though, I don't think Westwood would have sat there planning how to make the story work by removing Nod and GDI from the world completely.

@chica476: The common theory is that Kane is actually Cain, the world's first murderer, hence the Brotherhood of Nod (Nod was the land God exiled Cain to wander after killing Abel). So, in that respect, it is quite easy to assume that Kane is, for all intents and purposes, immortal.

Anyway, he is in the Soviet Ending of RA1, though that's not the 'canon' (such as it exists in C&C) ending, so obviously not what actually happened in terms of the RA series. Still, an interesting little side note.
