  • Ey... Fette Stimme der alte Mann!

  • I don't enjoy whiskey enough to get that voice. Neither do I smoke. Love that fucking sound!

  • people are so focused on his incredible guitar playing they fail to observe his amazing voice...

  • While his guitar playing is superb, I think he is really underrated as a singer. Holy crap I wish I could sing like that

  • Leslie rocks all by himself I've watched 16 versions of this song tonight Leadbelly , Animals ,Bon Jovi ,Frigjid pink ,Cool'O'Keefe' Sinead O'Connor' Dolly Parton'GeraldBoyClassical' Nina Simone' the Beatles' The Ventures' Waylon Jennings' Eric Burdon' Duran Duran' Gray Glitter' Tori Amos, Leslie West

  • He has a great blues shouter's voice, so powerful. The heart of this music.

  • @lonelydwightfrye

Mountain did not record it. Leslie West did a cover his second solo album "The Great Fatsby" (1975). (The first solo album being "Leslie West - Mountain" (1968).

  • He's always been one of my favorites. After you get past the dropped d it's just talent. I wish more guitarists tried to sound like this instead of the noodle-like wimpy shit that is called shredding

  • he's great !

  • This guy has got It..Musicial genius talent

  • i like how he just tunes his guitar by ear. u dont see much noobie musicians capable of doin that anymore.

  • This man has the greatest gritty screamin' blues voice in the world

  • MoMountainous voice..Ive becoming fan of Leslie..god bless

  • WITH A FEEL!!!!! real nice!

  • Gran músico, y sobre todo vaya peaso' de voz.

  • Leslie West played Whitley bay...ffs :D when was this?

  • Great - Inspires me to learn more alternate tunings!

  • yeah! i cant place it though, is it just his own tuning or is it dropped down a step? bluesy is the word that comes to mind in this version

  • the best version of this song is on his great fatsby album.

  • i have a few of his solo's and a few of his mountain albums... fantsatic voice!

  • Brilliant!

  • Agreed!

  • Thanks!

  • 3:12 lol

  • Impossibly good

  • my favorite song is the version of Nantucket Sleighride on the live album "the road goes ever on"

  • i would have liked to hear Felix sining this song

  • hahaha, yes, very scary.

  • what a voice!!!!!!!! awesome

  • I saw him and mountain live. they were opening up for joe satriani they did like 5 or 6 songs or something like that a few were from mountain and others were just covers they even did crossroads. Even though they were just doing an opening show and i had know idea who he was except the singer of mountain he is one hell of a Rockstar on stage This man is a legend weather you have heard of him or if your just like me when you think of mountain you think of mississippi queen HE IS A LEGEND! ROCK ON

  • Estatic... rather than Pathetic as my predecessor wrote..

I think this track can have a very personal approach..and i personally love this one too!!.....awesome guitarskills and very outstanding bluesy vocals....love it!!!

  • wow...this is amazing

  • Sin duda Leslie West es de los grandes guitarristas, buen cover...

  • si y tambien tiene una muy buen voz ^_^

    Saludos

  • I love this version, I'd really like to hear LW do it as an instrumental. The guitar was awesome.

"Mr music teacher" don't know shit, says he knows the guy who wrote the song B.S. No one knows the author, nice try at sounding like an authority though......

  • His voice is horrible on this sondg I wish he got a replcement for the singing.

  • I totally agree, I think he a a great guitarist, but he is no singer

  • yes

  • Look at the below comments.. Everyone is so different. If you think ur shyt at playing guitar, dont worry, some people willl think ur good.. This isnt a very good verson really, the guitar aint as good as it could be which affects the singing. But the singing is still fuoking good.

  • Love this guy's version of this classic song.

  • I like it by Dave Van Ronk

  • in Norwegian Ronk means to masturbate :P

  • I think there is a version of this song with jimmy page...

  • still waiting for web site to be updated been nine months now

  • Ooooooooo yea now this rocks :) Totally leaves Eric and The Animals for dead. Are you listening Mr. Burdon. I think it's time you hung up your vocal chords and gave us a rest.

And OMIGOD this man can play guitar too :)

  • juggers a zakk wylde fan... and anyone who likes Pantera your opinion is void. so-sorry.

  • I'm a huge pantera fan and I love this song

  • skilled musician.

  • What guitar is that? The tone pretty much bursts forth from it?

  • Haha, Thats a Leslie West (The King of Tone). It doesnt matter the guitar. Leslie would tell you that tone is in the hands.... teenagers have been stayin up till the wee hours of the night (for the last 40 years) trying to accomplish Leslie's tone. Good luck my dear man!

  • Agreed! But even the awesome Mr.West can't do this song on a ukelele. Although he may. No doubt skill plays a huge part. Still the instrument is incredible.

  • Actually dont be so certain or bet the farm animals... because Leslie first learned to play.... yup you didnt guess it.. a ukelele!

  • Haha no kidding. Thats awesome.

  • @depper lol his genius is beyondf reach of average humans...

  • @depper Amen bro.

  • I think its a Gibson, custom- only $3.000-$5.000

  • Alot of people dont know leslie west which is unfortunate coz he is fantastic!

  • LW has the whole package. Brilliant musician in the classic rock n roll sense. Depper, what is your relationship w/LW?

  • No family relation. just a fan. Started the first Leslie West Mountain fan page in 1991. There from the very beginning of the net. And its still up. Been through changes, and trying to redesign the whole site, but its a job :)

  • Strange, most people get fatter when they get older, he's got thinner :-)

He still got some horsepower in them vocals, amazing really, you'd think he would have wrecked them :-o

Personally I think he was a great rock electric guitar player. That is where he was at his best. I saw him live a few years ago, he did lots of unplugged stuff but I think most of us wanted him to shred some heavy rock ;-)

  • We all have our opinion. Leslie West was always an amazing acoustic guitarist. I have seen many Leslie West concerts and never heard more than 2 acoustic tunes in one show. I think Leslie shows incredible passion in his acoustic playing, and as always, the tone is first rate.

  • You guys are all out of order...Leslie is the white , hebrew, B.B. king.....what soul..better than chicken soup and furthermore i respect his tuning and the harmonics he throws in...what a performer, what an ace!!..oreo from ct

  • you don't know the man that wrote this song because it's a traditional song and it's said that a woman may have written it

  • There is also debate as to whether it was about a brothel or a women's prison. Interestingly enough the women's prison in new Orleans was notorious for using the inmates as prostitutes. Either way it is a great song.

  • Damn that hurts, I was a Mountain fan but after going threw and seeing Leslie you tubes, I question myself I thought he was good I must of been on drugs , This is so bad. This is usually the first song you learn on the guitar and he plays like he is not sure of this song. Wow this hurts the ears, the singing just killed my ears , Im sorry but true.

  • Ok first if you could play better then leslie west you'd be famous second he does a style called improv so he never really plays the same song the same way twice third his voice makes you feel the pain of being in prison which is what the "house of the rising sun" is about. you should just listen to records or albums cause live music is just to pure for your unimaginative ears.

  • I didn't mean to hurt your feelings I am a music teacher at a university in Argentina,I know the man that wrote this song.Let people state there opinions and don't get hurt or this world will eat you up. I'm sorry but it did hurt my ears as it did everyone I showed this to I like this guy but his video's on the Tube makes me wonder, not to good for me. and its the 1st song I teach my students.Glad you like, I respect your opinion.

  • Do you like blues? I ask because if you do you should be used to the raw blues yell that leslie is doing. either way perharps i was a little harsh on calling you unimaginative.

  • Hey man...that's a really lame argument...I mean...I agree with you...I LOVE LW...but "famous player" are NOT the only good ones...I've heard SEVERAL players over the years that are MONSTERS put LW and many othes to shame...and nobody knows who they are. Just my 2 cents...I still love West though:)

  • With youtube, myspace and other if you can really play better than west does on his studio tracks then its my opinion you would get famous but then again rock has gone away from power solos for some time now that you might be right.

  • I agree with kingconan. Disagree with Tnuc4u and Warbeer. Leslie West became a house hold name because he paid his dues and EARNED that right. Also West pioneered much of his tone and did it so well, that not many, if anyone, can duplicate it. Its a signature sound, no doubt. Nobody does it better than West.

  • Bogus. Funny how kingconan and I have been granted 4 thumbs down within 4 days (hmmm)... so you invade a Leslie West video thread, say you cant stand it, give everyone a thumbs down for the past 4 days who liked it, say you are the President of Argentina (or whatever your job is) ... gimmie a break, go listen to Menudo! Mountain AND Leslie West rock

  • Wow Im sorry I hurt your husbands feelings Mrs West all I do is make a comment and I'm called in invader . I'm sorry Mrs. West I think your husband better on electric guitar.

  • And mr music teacher... lets hear your version...

  • I dont agree but I respect you. I think its really great movie! thanks for posting... Check Dylans rising sun too

  • Hey LLoyd, can you grace us with YOUR VERSION of Rising Sun... since you can perform it "so much better than Mr West..." Please grace us... Havent had a good laugh since your last regrettable post....

  • Leslie's singing and pickin' is SCORCHIN HOT, this is SOUL, BLUES, CLASSIC ROCK played at its very, very best. Todays rockers cant play with this type of soul... Commercial appeal was secondary to a performer like Leslie West. To West, its the sound that mattered. Thank you for staying real Leslie and never selling out.

  • To hot to handle :-o

  • DON'T BURN ME

  • to be honest the guitar playin was cool but the singin was awfull i could have done better

  • Leslie - dont know what he does but he has a unique sound

  • i saw the who last year and thought that it was amazing how Daltrey could still sing...and now after watching this, im even more amazed at how Leslie can belt out those lyrics...its unbelievable. hooray for the big guy!

  • Im Sorry... He's Just NOT The Animals... "THEY CALL!!!!!!!!!!!! THE RISING SUN..." I'm Sorry, this guy hurts my ears and doesn't exactly know the song.

  • they we on tour in 1972 with Black Sabbath... Corky could sure break those drumsticks. I will always remember what a great concert...Leslie still has it.

  • Yeah, you rule)))

  • Still great after all these years. Sing on Great Fatsby.

  • Leslie is DA MAN!

  • I was there! When was this, 1999? Great vid!

  • Sing it, HOWL it, Leslie.
