I did a similar thing with .22 lr cartridges, using the strike anywhere match heads as the compound that was poured into the base of the case. I can reload the shells infinitely as they are low pressure and are very soft and easy to re form. I use to have a video showing a subsonic load using a reloaded .22 lr cartridge.
I have never seen that method of seating a primer into the case, is there any probems with that method besides being slow? WIth the special tools you can buy you can do it much faster but you need too buy a special part for holding the shell for each type of bullet you want too reload. Does this C Clamp Method work on all rifles and handguns? i cant see shotgun working. This makeshift Reloading is interesting.
@MrCherubhair1 The only reason it wouldn't work on a shotgun shell is that the plastic walls of the shell would compress. if you cut a big dowel rod the length of the shell and put it in there you have something to press against.
Thanks, It works well but is VERY time consuming. Not something I will ever do much of if I can find primers to buy.. Back when I did the video I couldn't find them anywhere so I took matters into my own hands.
Yes the primer cup is made of brass. The anvil is a metal piece that the primer compound, (in this case matchstick powder) hits against to make a spark. If you took the anvil out the compound would not spark when the firing pin dents the primer.
I'm going to attempt to fill the rim on some .38 rimfire cases using this method, although the procedure will be different, regardless what I'm wondering is if the phosporus will have enough ignition to properly ignite Unique smokeless poweder?.
Sorry, my first attempt at asking a question -------I should'nt have included my 'Username' with my first question -----BUT I would still greatly appreciate a reply on whether these match filled primers would fire .44 Russian revolver shells with 240 gr lead bullets using Pyrodex P ??
I have only loaded a little over 100 rounds with these primers in .45 acp. 100% fired. it should be noted that all of them were fired within 24 hours of loading. Also the match head stuff tends to draw moisture, so if I was going to load ahead of time I would store the loaded rounds in a rice bag or something to keep them dry.
How many have you test fired? Do you have a % of how many work to know how reliable they are? I have seen some people test fire just the primer, but I'd like to see it fire the whole round, which is the only way to really know how reliable it is. thanks for the video!
@rift3r2 Quite a coincidence you should mention that.. I just acquired my first shotgun the day before yesterday. I will check that out and get back to you.
@rift3r2 Sorry it took so long but I finally got around to trying to reload a shot shell primmer today. No success so far. The metal ring is not the problem. The anvil is different. It needs to be pushed through the match head compound. I'm thinking elitenoob1147"s idea of making a paste and letting it dry might be the only way to get it to work.
Interesting idea! Sounds like it might work well, but I haven't run short on primers for a while, so I'm not sure when I will get around to trying that.
very interesting, i noticed you are using both the white tips and the red parts of the strike anywhere matches. isn't this dangerous? why didn't the powder ignite when you crushed/mixed to two components?
i'm guessing the red part on the strike anywhere matches are identical to the tips on the strike on box matches? correct?
will a primer filled with strike on box matches work on its own?
@AGreyMan Thanks Grey Man! My reply button wasn't working for some reason when I originally tried to respond to that. Ammosmith is a good reloader and I have learned some things from him, but I would invite people to watch ammo's test fire. then watch mine. My primers actually go bang!
sir intersting vid. I do have few questions . have you had the reloaded ammo pruessure checked / primmer have a big affect on the pressure alsohow about the acc?? also what manual do you use/ all use a certain type of primer for their testing . I do commend you on comming up with a way to shoot
I have a friend who just got testing equipment and is planning on testing them for me. Unfortunately he has other projects that are a higher priority for him, so I have to wait until he has time.
Awesome video. I just bought my Lee Classic Turret yesterday. It will be a few weeks or maybe even a few months before I start reloading but I won't be throwing away my spent primers. I'll save them for the rainy day I hope never comes. Thanks for the demo.

@ScientologySucksAss It will work on shot gun shells, if you insert a big dowel rod into the shell first.

Or should I just stick to BP.

Sorry I missed your post.
I have used smokeless (universal clays) and it worked fine.

Can shotgun primers be reloaded in this manner? They have that metal "bell" around them....

you could take 90% rubbing alcohol and u can make a pase and that will work better

He stole the idea from ammosmith, go there... he has a WAY better explanation.

And Ammosmith "stole" the idea from the US Army TM 31-210, originally published in 1969.
Lighten up, Francis.
