  • Wonderful shots -- places I have been to as well. I've been thinking of adding a Kiev to my Bronica and Mamiya medium format cameras and it looks like you're getting good use and reliable service from the 88. Excellent testimonial. If you listen to HF my call is VE6NYC and you may hear me from time to time. Again, nice work.

  • Thanks letourism1

  • @JIMIXIMAGES

Yes it is sad, but I do not miss spending many hours in the dark room and throwing a lot of paper away. But I am glad I also did spend time in the dark room. This digital photography is fantastic. If I would have had this when I was in High School my whole life may have been different. The control you have with digital is amazing and very predictable. Love it!

  • @JIMIXIMAGES

I would not give up my digital cameras. I tried to give my 4X5 dark room to the local High School, they did not want it. They have torn down the Kodak buildings in Rochester NY. My D200 produces higher quality images than does my 4X5 cameras. However using film cameras, you do need more knowledge and skill about photography and the camera to get results.

  • Thanks JIMIXIMAGES

I love all my cameras. You may be interested in the three videos I did on my three 4X5 cameras, a Speed Graphic Graffix, Crown Graphic, and my Wista Field camera. I have a full 4X5 color dark room, but of course I don't use it anymore. Now I use a Nikon D70 and a Nikon D200, love them too. Love Photoshop too.

  • Hi again,

Sounds like you and I have had some similar experiences. I first began interested as a young boy early in WWII, and have maintained that interest since. I got my first FCC comm lic. in 1950. and my 1st Phone later, working for 2 stations as engineer. I aso develpoed an interest in Photography,, still and motion, and served in the Korean War as a combat "fuzzygrapher". Later, I was a staf photog for 2 newspapers, 1953. I still hold a GROL, but am not active photog..Thanks.

    WB8MHE

  • Thanks WB8MHE

Yes, I served in the USAF 1966-70. After training I was on the flight-line in these countries, Philippines, RVN, Okinawa, and Texas. I got my 1st Phone mid 70s. Worked for a phone company for fifteen year. Then worked for a phone equipment manufacture for fifteen years. I am an award winning and prize photographer. And I have written two books on antique vacuum tube radio repair.

  • dang, gonna miss portra

  • @MegaAfroGuy

    Yep, me too.

  • I thought I viewed a Hasse, but I can't be sure. :) I worked as a photographer most of my life. I used several Hasselblads working as a hospital medical photographer. Thanks for the video.

  • Thanks!

I have made two videos of my 4X5 cameras, a Graflex Speed Graphic and a Graflex Crown Graphic cameras. And now the Hasselblad. I plan on doing a video on my Wista 4X5 field camera. It is Rose Wood and Brass. Gorgeous camera!

  • lol wow so the hasselblad made the difference haha , ive allways wanted one , im from australia and the only place ive seen 120 format film is in a camera shop in sydney so its harder to get tho still available, il have to endevour to get one , i still love taking photos with film.

  • I love film too and measure the amount of film I have shot in pounds. I love my digital cameras too. All the still pictures of the Kodak promotional were taken with a NIKON D70. The picture of Hong Kong was VPS negative film and of Hawaii was Ektachrome positive film. I scanned in both types with my Epson 4990 scanner. And of course Photoshop all still pictures, both film and digital. Good luck on your search.

  • dude im sooo jealous of that camera i have allways wanted one they take beautiful pictures ! u cant beat film

  • Well, this is an interesting story. The first time I went to Hong Kong I took a nice NIKON F camera. On the weekends I would ride the subway all over Hong Kong and Kowloon, lots of fun. I would walk up to the ticket counter with my NIKON and get a Tourist Ticket. They would always ask to see my passport. The next time I went to Hong Kong I took my Hasselblad. This time when I went to the ticket counter with the Hasselblad, they never asked for my passport.

  • 120 film my-my I wonder how easy it is to get it these days? Thank you for your post. As usual your videos are so well done unlike my sad attempts as doing umms and ahhs. Was that camera a Hasselblad or a Bronica? I love the sound of the focal plane shutter. My Sony SuperSteadyShot has a shutter click sound file that plays when I click a picture. I thought that was a nice touch to add to a digital camera. It is the same camera I take my videos with. Thanks again. Gary

  • Thanks Gary,

It is a Hasselbald. I have a lot of camera stuff I don't use anymore. Not complaining, the digital equipment and applications are awesome. Neat to have the sound of a film camera in a digital camera. Plus you can turn it off when you need too. The Hasselbald sound great, but not so during a wedding service.

  • This camera costs a fortune in Brazil.

    Fantastic camera and photos

  • In today's digital world their not a fortune any longer. Still very high quality equipment. Now the digital back for the camera is a fortune.

  • So, if you wish you can buy the the digital back for the camera ?

Very interesting. Thus this fantastic equipament can

be used for many years more.

    Best regards,

    Mário

  • Hey Mário

Oh yes, also Nikon and Cannon 35mm SLR cameras can use the older lens on their new digital SLR cameras. A great idea too, some of the older lenses are fantastic.

    Best regards,

    Rick

  • great camera! 1:45 in favorite

  • Thanks.

  • Yep! That shot you can really see that I was walking around on a volcano!!

  • SIr,

I have enjoyed all of your videos. We share many interests as I'm a photographer, who happens to love medium format and 4x5, as well as a antique radios and tinkering with things. Your knowledge and approach is quite refreshing. Thank you for sharing your interests and teachings through your videos as I've learned a lot.

  • Thanks.

I have been into photography since High School. You probably measure the amount film you have shot like I do, in pounds. The digital technology is awesome. I ordered a digital picture for a church of 18X24@360res and that was how I made the file. The printer made an error and printed my file with out changing it, and made a 24X30 print. It looked perfect. So that means I idea of what the quality limit is of my digital camera.

  • Very nice shots. Thanks for sharing them.

    Bill

  • Thanks Bill.

  • How did you get a hold of an antique Hasselblad? You should get some Schneider lenses for that...best combination!

  • Lol lol lol I bought it over twenty years ago. I am all digital now, NIKON. The still pictures of the Gift from KODAK and the film inside was taken with my D70. Thanks.

  • Great video! I want to echo what demios99 said, he hit it spot on what I wanted to express as well! I'm really impressed with the quality of the pictures you have! I'm into photography too, but only as a hobby, I don't get to travel anywhere so I mostly take pictures from around where I live.

  • Thanks Daniel,

When I got into digital photography I bought Adobes PhotoShop. I bought about five PhotoShop course books by Adobe and other authors, and studied them for a year. It took a year to get component with it and of course I was doing other things too. And of course I am still studying it, it is that complex. BUT it is absolutely amazing the quality you can achieve. I scanned in the film. The pictures of Hong Kong are all negative film. The pictures of Hawaii are all positive film.

  • Rick,

Very cool vid. And great pics.

My daughter-in-law's job requires her to travel to Hong Kong twice a year. She says it's still a hustle-bustle place. Boggles her mind.

    Thanks.

    Regards,

    John

  • Thank John,

Lol, lol, hustle-bustle is an under statement!!! It is impossible to get bored in Hong Kong. Traveling to Hong Kong is a hassle but it is well worth it. Your daughter-in-law should enjoy it. That is where, Shop Until You Drop, was invented.

    Best regards,

    Rick

  • This is one of your best videos yet. Thanks!

  • Thanks! I really do love photography!!!!!

  • Are you an engineer? Do you have a degree?

  • I am a Broadcast Engineer, Software Engineer 100/200(Code owner of Table Control ISUP for the world, for Nortel), Software Engineer DMS-10, and Taught and Developed software courses for the DMS-10 and 100/200 Super Node, also a Test and Acceptance Engineer for a Phone Company. I am also an award winning and prize winning photographer. I have written two books on Antique Radios. I have an Associate Degree in Apply Science. And I love Digital Photography.

  • I also build Websites. And a few more things. My last math class was (A Bomb) Atomic Nuclear Physics. I get bored easy.

  • @AllAmericanFiveRadio

I would have never guessed that you had so much credentials, because you behave so humbly and modestly. But this is just fantastic! I was always amazed by the patience and knowledge you exhibited, and respect you've shown towards old radios and cameras, but this notion brings my respect to a new all-time high :D of any YT'er I've subscribed to,or any person I know. Most of people just get the job done and that's it.But you seem to always want to know more.I respect that greatly!

  • My curiosity is both wonderful and a curs, thank God for YouTube it exercises my creativity. I just got a question about what processor I used for my Digital Fun Meter. So I think I will do another video on it and call it Inside The Digital Fun Meter. The Digital Fun Meter came-about from my software classes. I got very tired of hearing "Are we having fun yet!". So I thought why not measure it. THANKS!
