even though i think the usage of powder is a soggy mess, i really like the acuraccy of this type of printer compared to those working with melted plastic
@minecraftmodglitches Yes, many 3d printers come with files that are integrated into the software. Selecting these 3d files, it can then print out the parts needed to make that 3d printer. It has to be manually put together though.
What does it use for the medium and the part? Is the part made from something strong enough for production use or just show. Saw it make a wrench on another video but how strong was it?
@Propnut48 It is like a porcelain -- basically calcium carbonate with some vinyl compounds. Then you dunk the whole thing in superglue, which infuses the part and makes it very strong.
@dehurt When you dunk it in super-glue what stops the ball bearings gluing together, or is this something we still need to solve before this will be the common manufacturing process?
@truthseeker0183 Imagine if you will, designing an item. For argument's sake, we'll say a type of wrench. Then plugging that item into this system and letting it print out an actual copy of it. Then you can turn around and test it. See if it works like you expect. However, imagine further if you were to produce them this way. Companies with their own printers don't buy the tools, but instead a disc which they plunk into their own printers. Printing as many of the tools as they ever need....
It's an amazing process with far reaching implications yet in an infantile stage. Stop calling it 'printing', it renders the whole thing to office max nerd retail status. It is actually more like NRC NUMERIC RESIN CASTING.
Given that some polymers are many times stronger then steel, lets get one of those for every home! So, when anyone can print their guns from an open source file at the net, maybe the government, midia and corporations stop this stupid attack at the second amendment! Or maybe most of the corporations won't even exist in a few years, since anyone will be printing insted of buying the finished products.
Our company is using this technology to replicate body parts (primarily spines and skulls) for pre-surgical planning (typically for scoliosis, kypohosis, and craniosynostosis cases). Our models have also been used in personal injury legal cases.
You can follow our YouTube channel (ACRMcorp) or visit our main website (ACRMcorp [dot] com).
You can also see actual patient pathology cases (and purchase 3D models) at Medical3Dmodels [dot] com.
I do wonder if steel could be used here, If some form of steel could be melted, And applied to a surface of which it does not adhere to, And then bonded together somehow.
A steel powder or something similar could be used I imagine. Use polymers to bind the powder and there you go.Then maybe some sort of heat treatment could be used to anneal it?
Probably not too expensive because their are already home built versions. As for strength, I imagine it would be pretty damn strong, at least equal to a MIM part. (Metal Injection Molding). MIM parts are considered of a lessor quality when compared to a forged CNC part. It's al relative I guess.
What makes you think cnc parts are forged?, they are machined. do you know anything about either forge or cnc? maybe the die is cnc'ed and the parts from it are forged.
Do you even know what forged steel is? CNC parts are machined from forged billets of steel. Do you think they CNC parts from a block of cast steel or something? I know exactly what I'm talking about. A die? What in the hell are you talking about?
Because of their high alloy content, tool steels must be rolled or forged with care to produce satisfactory bar products.
Does that clarify what I was attempting to describe CAYUCOSS9? Forget about my comment about what you meant concerning dies, I was thinking of something different.
@Greyswyndir true that, I watched another video in whitch they printed out a wrench and used it for everyday use, although I suppose that does not nearly compare to the immense vilocity of gun powder. Ahaha, well, they need to work on it!
It's already a reality. I just found out my own little idea is already in use, i.e., stainless steel powers with a temporary binder, then the "green" piece is heated to bind the steel powder together. This is truly incredible. I doubt we'll ever get a home version, too many possibilities and too much freedom. The powers that be do not want us to be able to manufacture our ideas. We have to be kept on the reservation, so to speak. True independence is too scary for them.
@Greyswyndir Ofcourse the idea of us being free and able to do as we so please is completely shocking and undesirable to any higher ranking agent of socialisation! Very interesting bit of research there my friend, thank you for that!
Just bucking the system by using my brain! Hehe! The main problem is people would be printing out weapons. Of course they would try to counteract this by some type of computer code but code can always be beaten by more code. I read that the U.S. Navy is already using this technology to print out metal spare parts. I'm not sure if it's true but I bet it is. I believe there are all types of hidden technology that have been is use for decades. If we know about something...
...then chances are "they" already have something much better. Remember when they unveiled the Stealth fighter/bomber? They unveiled it because they already had something way better in operation. That's how it works, there's always going to be a delay of decades when it comes to letting the public know about new technologies.
@Greyswyndir Ahaha, I couldn't agree more. There are all sorts of mad technical advances going on everyday. Governments have top scientists working on whatever they can to litterally 'advance' warfair. Their must be hundreds of new weapons, new inventions used for weaponry and even more harmful things used ot effect computing rather in order to shut systems down from the mainframe! Ahahaha, enless possibilities.
@Greyswyndir Although I don't completely agree with your political ideas, it is very possible to create a mold with this material and then use it to cast something in metal.
It's funny, I never considered making any kind of weapon with our 3D printer...
What political ideas are you talking about? You may not have considered it but you can be sure others have. I think 3D printing is amazing and it could solve a lot of problems in this world.
@ERICKCOELHO2 Actually it is impossible to do that... unless you print out each part one by one... But then they would be made of powder... Many things cannot make that possible so thats good.
@MrLegendman3 no, it can print multiple parts in one go, moving functioning gears all built in one shot. dont say that it is impossible, as im sure only a few years ago it was thought that printing 3d objects was impossible. and not too long ago so were mobile phones, or electricity for everyhousehold.
@MrLegendman3 but what about food, it would be wonderful to have a food printer so you can eat anything you want too by just typing what you want, i think i ve seen one before but in this one you have to put some little bags of ingredients on the top and it starts to build the food layer by layer.... thats nice ^^
it wont print its self think about how stupid that sounds it wont replicate devices with electrical wiring and componets all it will do is the shell of it but it will be able to make car parts and stuff like that that are non electrical i seen them make a monkey wrench and when it was done used it to tighten a bolt its not just a powder their is a liquid that is mixed with it to and it makes it a soild compound
@1857classic Yes but I dont think these are going to pull demand like Plasma TVs, not really something that everyone wants in their homes! Plasma TVs dropped in price because the demand was high enough to warrant a mass production of them that massively cut prices!
Well, the only people that actually want a 3d printer would be those who make 3d models on computers, normal printers are everywhere because there has been a time where everybody has needed a physical copy on a digital document,
@Roggiedodgie Currently they are used more for mockup and design purposes... design, build, and test your part, as well as being able to see and hold it in full 3d, look from all angles, etc etc.
As the technology progresses, the parts will be (hopefully) fully usable in everyday machinery. Imagine needing a part for a car (or industrial plant) and being able to purchase the design (or design it yourself) and then build the part right in your home/plant. Unbelievable.
@FenrirLupus i forgot the company name, but there was a metal 3d printer in the works for testing on the international space station. the idea being that it would be cheaper and easier to launch print media than completed parts, and just print them out in orbit.
@FenrirLupus I was making fun at the corporate part of this which would make damn sure im unable to print another printer because they dont want to lose money. Also printers that can copy themselves are in the making (but as academic projects)
Import any 3D CAD model? Now we can have our favorite game maps in physical form!

That's incredible, But I don't see how the items made can be of any actual use except for aesthetic uses.

"Note the incredible speed" -- in 10 or 15 years; we will be laughing at how "slow and archaic" this will look.
Still, this is an incredible and important move forward in 3D printing!!

@FenrirLupus I was making fun at the corporate part of this which would make damn sure im unable to print another printer because they dont want to lose money. Also printers that can copy themselves are in the making (but as academic projects)
