A Campbell Cane could be an interesting senior defense device. I was asked last year about designing a cane that could be functional, artistic and defensive. The latest design fits this description. I was involved in martial arts in the 60's..now I am way over 60. I would not want to be on the other end.

I doubt street fights are going to be so choreographed with guys dancing "ballet" and such but I would say any object that you could grab, be it a cane or even your car keys, could improve your chances significantly. Demos are fun for entertainment purposes but lack any reality sense.

This is a lame video. He's trying to be too cute. Why are the guys waiting to attack. Give them bullet man padding, and show the people how to really use a cane. I hate when people do all that fancy trash. Street fights aren't the place to get cute. Thrust, bar smash, and overhand slash. Anything else is ART:(

I think thrusting and pulling are the only useful movements with a cane. To swing it it's too light and you'd be too slow.

you are clearly uneducated about the significant moves that can be done with a cane. with the addition to a weapon that gives you added power and reach there are also multiple combos that can be done.

This video was a demonstration, done with low speed and indications instead of actual attacks. And to the person above you, you obviously have no idea how versatile a cane can be in self defense.

Learn what you're talking about before you start trying to dis it, you'll look like much less of an idiot.

tae kwon do i believe is very fancy and does teach people to focus power in the legs buuuut the style is rather lacking and wastes alot of energy and time with all their flashy moves. i'm taught by my dad who is a black belt in kenpo but he incorperates other styles and techniques. the best fighting style is the one that gets the fight over with in the quickest amount of time. if i could name the best style i would say Krav Magav the isrealy military style they use which is very effective.

Funny! But comedy aside... For something real see UnbreakableUmbrella DOT com . The Unbreakable Umbrella works just as well as a walking stick or cane but does not make you look silly (no strange looks if carried by an able-bodied person).
