  • Hi I was wondering if I could apply herculiner on top of this that's what I plan to do to my car

  • @arturo12789 You could I guess. Never used the stuff

  • I used peel n seal from lowes on my camry smell is not notable

  • Does

  • one? those this causes any harm or some illness in your health after all it is roof material? You know many of us do have children and i know nobody wants too harm them .Thanks

  • @MrJaiden13 read the product description when you go to home depot.and if you really cared about your kids you would not put them in vw with no air bags and exaust fumes.

  • thanks for the tips...i'm from malaysian.....

  • This stuff did a awesome job of making my beetle smell like tar. I am so glad I saved a few bucks.

  • Can you put a double layer of the qr? Im not vry good at shifting (yet) but i heard the semi-autos are more trouble than they're worth. Do u have any experience with them? Also, i live in texas and the inside of the car gets vry hot... Is there anything like the stuff u used that i can put on the roof that would help? Thx!

  • @playinntraffic Yes a double layer is fine, but not necessary, stay away from semis. For the roof, get some carpet padding to put up there.

  • the fumes from this hasn't messed with anyone?

  • Hitler's revenge should sound like a buzz bomb

  • Thanks a lot for the tips, they're great.

  • this guys top helping me a great deal with my first resto cheers

  • Hey chris i went to home depot and they didnt have "quick roof" and none of the workers really knew what that was, so i had to go with a different brand that is originally for sealing windows.

  • @retrospectkid yeah cause people who work at home depot are dumb assess, they can't help, nor do they even know what products they sell.

  • Can I put some quick roof on the roof of the bug

  • @alvaracing93 no keep it from being upset down.

  • Comment removed

  • Hey Chris, I'm thinking about using this technique to deaden the sound in my bug, but i'm also planning on doing a full resto in the future. do you recommend waiting until the resto before i put down the insulation? Also do you apply POR-15 to the floor of the car? and if so, does the quick roof stick to it? thanks

  • @mrprufrock101 yes wait till you are ready to put the car back together after paint to put down the insulation. Paint POR 1st, then the QR.

  • It's $16.45 for 12.5 sq ft, that's $1.32 per sq ft (before tax) Fatmat is actually cheaper and probably thicker.

  • @outcast73 I have actually heard edead is better than fatmat, and even cheaper. I might have to try it!

  • thanks for tip we love not gettin riped off by the big guys thanks chris

  • With only the back of the car, same way as in the video, u think is enough?

  • @velandoaunmuerto You can put it wherever you want. For beetles, that is where it is the noisiest.

  • put this everywhere but the roof of my 69 bug and it worked great! Thanks for the great tip.

p.s. if anyone is planning on using this on their car, do it! cheap and effective...

  • Just wanted to say thanks for the great Ideas! I am putting together my parts list for my 73 Super Beetle........

  • Sorry, I should have mentioned that I have a 98 Honda CR-V. I put some on the inside floor board, but I have heard that putting something under the hood can help with engine noise coming through the wind shield. I just don't want it to fall off when it gets hot and fall on the engine. That wouldn't be good. Thanks again.

  • @shelteru We do short instructional cilps for classic vws also. check it out, maybe it will help you with your car.

  • Chris, can I use the Quick Roof under the hood of my car? Do you think the engine will get to hot? Thanks.

  • @shelteru I have never put it back there, I always use the tar board material that VW put in there. If you want to quiet the noise down, just put another layer down in the luggage are behind the back seat.

    cv

  • omg sweet cheers for spending the time making this for the rest of us :D

  • This is a great video. I can't wait to try this stuff out on my Mustang and my 240SX. I looked through the comments and glad to hear that the Quick Roof does not smell, I have read that the Peel n Stick does give off a strong odor.

Thanks again and keep up the great work!

  • damn!, thats better then Dyna mat. That stuff cost alot!.

  • I got a 1972 VW beetle, Do they have that problem?

  • @14omega28ok what problem?

  • @brighteyefilms The rattling from the Engine

  • @14omega28ok Rattling is not good. Your engine is making that sound? timing may be off

  • amazing best vid on the net a++++++

  • I really dont know what is the old school sound, this one sounds like a turbine, more like a supercharger and te pitch goes hig at hig rpm :s I'll try to make a video

  • I have a dumb question..do you know how to make the engine sound like a turbine?,I have a 2000 mexican VW and sounds like a turbine since I went to the mechanic, and this guy just suposed to change the alternator but he told me that it will fade away but no,I mean I like it, but would like to know if its bad for the engine? or something.I went to a lot of VW shows here in Tijuana and a lot of guys have that sound, but these guys are not dayly drivers, most of them just tow their rides thanx :)

  • @niel80 make it sound like a turbine? You mean to sound like the old school bug?

  • @niel80 check your belt pullys amd make sure they are aligned correctly you may need to change belts.your mechanic probably used the cheapest one he could find. Get one with Aramid noise resistant fibers embedded in the rubber . Auto Zone should carry them. I had the same problem with my 96 Grand Prix but like you i liked the sound so I left it alone. Thats all it sounds like to me it should be ok though.

  • thx for the tip .. i own a 1995 VW bug i will do that .. great video

  • @vallesan cool me too, I got a ragtop. What do you have?

  • i dont get it :S where am i suppose to apply this material to just the holes on the trunk door or all of the trunk door??

  • @iiFizzYHD I never apply it to the trunk door or decklid. I only use this on the interior luggage areas and floors and inside doors.

  • @brighteyefilms but if u were to put it in the trunk how would it be done?

  • @iiFizzYHD same, just cut it to size and roll it on.

  • @brighteyefilms ah ok and do i do the trunk floor and the wheel well and the wheel arches?

  • @iiFizzYHD that is up to you, I like to show those areas painted when I go to a show.

    cv

  • @brighteyefilms cool but will it make any difference if i put it on the floor and wheel well and arches? cuz i have a puegeot 307 2L HDI and when i put my sub in it, it rattle like hell i was trying to find out where the rattle noise was coming from and it was the trunk door so shall i just apply it there? thanks for helping me out. i really appreciate it! :)

  • @iiFizzYHD yes it will make a difference

  • So since you did this a while ago, have you noticed a smell at all on hot days?

  • @nickl011 I get this questions all the time, it does not smell

  • if i want to stop exterior sounds from coming in like road noise should i put those materials down first and then put quick roof down? or could i apply the mats to keep exterior sound out over the quick roof?

  • @keable16 QR always goes down first.

  • Hi Cris, and do you think with double layer of quickroof get better?

  • @juanosevilla yes.

  • nice job....think ill do this for sure!

  • great video :D

    keep it up bro

  • check my name! i subcribed to you! =D

  • i love your videos! ^^ i've been saving up to buy a bug of my own.. i'm just wondering... what bug models have the battery below the backseat (they say it easily catches fire)... i'm asian and very petite what model is best for me? or if not, what alteration (new pedals?) can i do to the car to make driving easier? please help me out... (~_~)

  • @jooginz All bugs have the battery below the backseat. They sell these marine batteries today that are in an enclosed case, very safe. As far as pedals? Do you not want a clutch? There are bugs out there that are semi automatic that have just two pedals and all you do is shift. maybe that is something you can look into.

  • Anyone watching this in UK, get yourself to Wickes, you can get massive rolls in various sizes, i used it on my honda and VW, good stuff. Cheap too.

  • @tattoov8 Any idea what the brand name is? Cheers!

  • @Tozza Hi, its just Wickes own brand adhesive flashing, comes in various widths/lengths, its about £16 for a roll about 10 inches wide and plenty long enough!

  • chris can you post a video dealing on how to adjust the clutch.. tnx

  • @unsungher018 Yeah that is something I want to do, be on the lookout.

    cv

  • mush much will it cost me?

  • do they sell this quick roof in the philippines?

  • @unsungher018 you got me. I can get it for ya and ship it to you if you want.

    cv

  • @brighteyefilms how much for the quick roof?

  • @unsungher018 how many rolls do you need?

  • @brighteyefilms how many for the whole interior?... excluding the roof...

  • @brighteyefilms how many rolls would i'd be needing for the entire inside of the beetle?... then that would be the quantity... :)

  • @unsungher018 I would say 4 to 5 rolls, not doing roof, I do not recommend that, it could fall.

  • @brighteyefilms hoe much for 5rolls of quick roof tnx

  • @unsungher018 looking at 115.00 US plus shipping. Overseas shipping will cost a bit more

  • Holy crap thank you thank you thank you for this info. This sparks a revolution in my mind. One quick question: What kind of adhesive would you suggest using to stick the carpet backing to the top of the Quick Roof? Oh, and do you think adding two layers of Quick Roof instead of one would make a noticeable in sound deadening, since it's so cheap? Thanks so much for this tutorial, keep up the great work!

  • @r0ckworthy 3M Spray adhesive is good, but be sure to get the spray that has the goose neck on it, because it has a more direct stream as apposed to a standard nozzle that sprays everywhere. All those fine particles of glue get all over the car. You can do two layers, but I have never had to. One layer with then a jute carpet pad on top is fine, or just the QR is fine.

  • THANKS!!!!!

  • Will stay upside down....did 2 bugs like this...be aware though... it would be VERY difficult to remove,

  • hey great vid chris. not into bugs but was chasing sound deadening ideas and this was top notch, great work.

  • Yo Chris do you know how to hook up brake lights to the brake pedal? I need to bypass my master cylinder cause I put a disc brake kit on my car. I have a 61 falcon :) Been on the lookout for quickroof also but need to be able to drive first. Thanks brotha.

  • no the stickers that say what year the car was made

  • Chris

I have a 1970 beetle made in gemany do you know the stickers on the driver side well i sanded them down are those stickers do i need those stickers?

  • @PeterQ9406 You mean the 12 volt stickers?

  • @PeterQ9406 OH the VIN sticker?? Well it is not a big deal, you still have the vins on the body and chassis.

  • Thanks for the info buddy!

  • WOW, thanks for the great idea . I was wondering what I could use instead of the over priced stuff.

    Thanks

  • hey chris... i would like to do the trunk lid of my car because i have a stereo and the subs reflect off the lid... but what i am concerd about this stuff comming off in the heat and ruining my expencive equiptment.... do you think this stuff would stay up in a upside down location. plz be honest cuz i would rather spend 100$ then ruin 100's

  • @1DavidSe

No do not put in an upside down position.

    cv

  • Chris is it ok, if you put a layer on top of the first layer you put against the metal?

  • yes you can double up on the layers.

  • Nicely explained, I have to try this stuff out.

  • Good video Sir

  • THANKS for the GREAT tip Chris !! I just installed this stuff on the barn doors of my 1988 chevy suburban to reduce vibrations/rattles from my two 15" subwoofers... it worked out perfect !! i also stuffed the inside of the doors with carpet padding as well.. all my buddies are gonna do the same to their rides now.. u saved me and them a good chunk of cash.. SCREW DYNAMAT !! thanks again !!

  • Awesome! I just spoke to a rep from the quickroof company, he said there is little to no odor on this stuff and it is not toxic or hazardous in anyway. This is all I have been saying about this product, it is great!

  • What are they used for or to ask for

  • Were did you buy the roller?

  • any hardware store

  • Hey Chris, i am 16 years old from England and i am restoring a 1970 vw beetle i was just wonder is there any good websites to get vw parts from ? that a fairly cheap but also good because it is very difficult to find good parts with out breaking the bank haha love you videos keep making them :)

  • I just did this today on my 71 Super Beetle. Took about an hour and a half and not hard at all to do. You're right Chris, it deadens the engine sound BIG time! Next up, installing my carpet.

  • Hell yeah!! Glad it worked out. You can put some of the carpet padding on top of the quickroof for even more deadening too.

  • LOL! Getting fired up there, Chris? haha! Good one.

  • Ah well yeah know.... i guess I get excited. hehehe

  • Is that carpeting matering that you acquired retain moisture?

  • thanks for the tips chris i have a 5.0 mustang that im going to try this on i think it will work great! have a good one!

  • if its tought to listen to the radio, MAKE IT LOUDER!!!

    theres my two cents

  • so does this stuff work? any good. is it worth all the trouble?

  • have you read any of these comments? I would not do it if it didn't work, nor make video and waste time. I am not making any money off of this, so I have no reason to put out any false claims. You need some deadening in a VW, the engine is right behind the back seat, this stuff stops the vibration big time. Just Carpet on metal will not do anything.

  • First, thanks that video it's great tip i finally put it in my 68' bug, it's so easy to apply, works good, i put it on the back, inside the panels and doors, but! i put it on roof but became loose and hanging in one of those 90 degrees hot days, so i removed and yes i did clean it very good before applied. so i went to get more at

  • yeah I have never tried it on the roof, I was going to but never did. So it did not stay? I see them put Dynamat on the roof of cars.

    cv

  • Oh forgot....That Cofair is also making a product that does not have asphalt to compete with others

  • Hey there Cris,

Let me begin that your doing a great job....Cofair also makes a SB60 which is a 60mil product self sticking wondering if you have looked into that? or anyone else

  • Hi Chris,

I asked the manufacturer (Cofair) if there are any differences between Quick Roof and Peel and Seal. Their answer: None except that P&S has a nice pressed honeycomb texture. Same ingredients so the smell should be the same too.

These days there a lot of sound deadening materials that are non-toxic. Dont buy the overpriced Dynamat sh!t. Go to your local A/C installer they have it on big rolls.

  • Well I have put my nose to both, and the Peel and seal has a smell over the quickroof hands down. Not sure why but it does, and that is why I went with QR.

  • I used the same stuff and it works just as good if not better because you can double or triple up for the same price. 1 roll can do approximatly 2 doors. 1 roll cost me less than 2 square feet of dynamat, i compared it and its the same really.

  • what if we put it @ fire wall? and then put the stock fire wall on it, if you have the engine out

  • I have never tried it, I am sure it should work great.

    cv

  • Thanks for sharing!!!.great tip!!!

  • Thanks for sharing this. Have 3 cars I'm going to put blue tooth in, 2 of them I need to seriously reduce the cabin noise. Much appreciated

  • I used Quick Roof on my truck 2 years ago. The only thing I'd recommend is to put some aluminum tape on each joint. It will help by not letting your carpet stick to the exposed edges of the Quick Roof. The tape will also ensure any smell will not come through. I have had no smell issues in 2 years of having it installed in the heat and humidity of AL. It's awesome!

  • Thanks! Great information. I just bought my daughter a 1970 Beetle. I drove it back to the Twin Cities from Sioux Falls. It was LOUD. I'll try your technique.

  • quick questions involving the exhuast. since these are air-cooled, would header wrap be a wise choice to keep heat out?

  • I do not think so.

    cv

  • this is the smartest thing i've ever heard say about anythin! genius!!!

  • thinks this will help with my supper beetle

  • no question, any beetle, any car for that matter.

    cv

  • good to know then.

    thanks agn.

  • yo.. any info on the sloped door adhesion?.

any unsticks-fall off"s on doors yet?.

i think flat areas wont ever come unstickied but i dont know about the doors...especially down the road after a while of heat and gravity and door closings. the dynamat seems to have a better adhesion glue to it then this stuff for the doors that prob matters.

  • No I have not had a problem. As long as you roll it on with a roller and not just by hand you will be fine. As far as heat?? Remember this stuff is for roofs, do you know how hot it gets up there?

    cv

  • I wonder if "Quick Roof" is available in Ireland?

  • Thanks so much for posting this great how-to!

I just did this today in my 1993 full-size Blazer because I had the interior out for a carpet replacement. Seems like a good product and it DOES NOT smell bad like some people say about these products. I agree, it's probably the Peel and Seal that smells bad.

Lowe's had a product called Vycor, but Quick Roof seemed better and thicker.

I am going to cover this with Frost King self adhesive foam insulation. I may add the carpet padding too.

  • Usually where there is a lowes, there is a home depot nearby. And home depot has that jute padding I show in the video.

  • They never sold it at lowes, it is only at the Home Depot. Roofing section, it is there every time I go.

  • Anybody out there know how to repair a sunroof on a '71 SuperBeetle? Mine cranks shut, but won't pop up into it's opening properly (flush with roof). I just bought the car, so I'm not familiar with VWs yet.... Thanks in advance!!

  • Original sunroofs did not pop up, they slide back.

  • brightey: Yes, correct, (wrong terminology). Let's try this... It cranks forward (to close) just fine, but stays DOWN rather than moving up into it's rectangular-shaped window-housing area....it just sits low in it's "hole". Water can EASILY get in the way it is.....

  • this is one informative video... i tried it in my van and it workS! and not costly... tnx chris..

  • Great info, I am definitely gonna try it!

  • keep us updated as how the peel and seal is holding up on youre car and ill do the same when mine os done also. 8)

the new padding as thick as you can fit under the carpet is also key to good deadening.

  • It is great, my 54 is soo quiet. Again, I do not use the peal and seal, I found the quick roof to be better.

    cv

  • Hey awesome video! I just got done doing this to my 74 bug. I got the peel & seal from Lowes and carpet padding which both made a big difference!!!

As far as the smell of the peel & seal, it is was a little noticeable, nothing major at all and goes away after a couple hours.

I think the carpet padding made more of a difference only cause its like 5 times as thick as the roofing material. It took 3 roles to do my whole car with some overlapping.

    I highly recommend doing this

  • Yeah no doubt. Thats why I said I had a smell with Peal and Seal, but so far no smell with quick roof.

  • Comment removed

  • ok i was just making sure cause i know this stuff works cause your pretty reputable chris haha. but yeah i was going to get some dynamat but i aint got that money and i don't need name brand cause if that stuff works good then i'm set

  • even if it does smell a lil the carpet and padding over it be no prob!.

  • I have not had an odor issue, I have some black bugs that bake in the sun, and I have no smell.

  • Comment removed

  • is this stuff still around till this day

  • Yes in home depot, the roofing section.

  • thanks you just saved me a lot of over priced name brand mistake money then. 8)

i asked some others about it and they said that this stuff likes to stick at first on roof and doors then falls off later sometines.

ill just do my trunk and floor with it and doors with the overpriced stuff. if i gotta any extra left ill just toss it over this stuff for double. btw i luv bugs. the peoples car indeed.

    again thanks.

  • So far it has not come up, you have to put it down with a roller, and she stays.

    cv

  • cool thanks. but how does it stack up against real sound deadner effectiveness?.

if its even close to 80% as effective ill get this stuff then.

  • It's pretty damn good. I would say it is at least 80% effective.

  • "quote" Taking into account the high risk you experience with some asphalt deadeners/ ? wtf that mean?. that stuff toxic or somethin? i just want sound deading.

  • It is not toxic, we have been doing it for years.

    cv

  • wouldnt 2 layers of carpet or that under carpet insulation with 2 layers of good carpet do about the same and be cheaper than that fat mat dynamat stuff?

how exactly does this compare to the real stick down sound stuff acoustically?.

  • Great tip. I havent tried this yet my bug is in the process of being painted. I saw someone said the interior of a car,s temp. exceeds that of a roof. NO WAY. If you don't believe me try standing on your roof barefoot in the middle of summer! I looked at the msds sheet on the quick roof website. this material isnt affected by heat until 200 degrees fahrenheit. If your car gets that hot your living on the sun.

  • Totally! Fry an egg on the roof.

    cv
