I had a Japanese flute player explain the meaning of this song to me in the 60s. It is not about the Japanese beef dish called sukiyaki. It was Capitol Records that gave Sukiyaki as the American title of this Japanese tune which is really about a broken-hearted man walking looking up at night so that his tears won't fall:
Amazing song that translates remarkably well into any language. Sissel's awesome voice takes it to incredible new heights.

Sissel is great! She had sung many many songs in many languages. I wish she can sing a song in Chinese!

@hsch1234 She's singing this song in her native language - Norwegian, though the song itself originates from Japan.

I look up when I walk
Counting the stars with tearful eyes
Remembering those happy summer days
But tonight I'm all alone.

Thank for your uploading.
Sukiyaki is a one of famous songs in Japan.
But sukiyaki is one of japanese cuisine.
Have you ever eaten sukiyaki?
