Thank you for your question. If it was intended to be a permanent splint, it would have been placed intracoronally. As a temporary splint, there was not sufficient interocclusal clearance to place this splint on the lingual surface. We have found that patients are more comfortable with the temporary splint placed this way, as the patient cannot feel the splint as if it were placed labially. We consider the appearance a minor inconvenience for a long term improvement.
