There are items from this period for sale on E-bay. Prisoner written letters from Birkenau, Mauthausen, armbands that say "Kapo", cloth identification numbers with part of a striped uniform still attached. I've been to a couple of concentration camps, and I lost it... How ANYONE could think that the extermination of Jews, Gypsies, gays, and other "undesirables" by the Nazis is beyond me... But then, some people persist in beliving earth is flat, too and "if I can't see germs, they don't exist" (although in this case, I suppose it's good, as some people are opting out of the gene pool by dying of quite curable diseases)...

How the hell did this travesty ever happen and on such a large scale? I'm also astounded that what happened at Dachau when the SS got lined up and gunned down didn't happen on a large scale. I just.. I can't watch this. I can't for the life of me, imagine how and why one could be in the SS doing this to these people. Sometimes I think, if I was in their shoes and I saw a beautiful woman or a child or a senior get off that train and I knew what would happen to them. I'd lose it. I'd be so grief stricken and so enraged at the other ss scum. There are items from this period for sale on E-bay. Prisoner written letters from Birkenau, Mauthausen, armbands that say "Kapo", cloth identification numbers with part of a striped uniform still attached. I don't think I could ever by anything like this simply because of the misery these items represent :( (as I type this the man in the movie says they will be given postcards, I've seen these postcards on E-bay).

My grandad was a soldier liberating Belsen camp and when ge got back from the war until he died in 1996 he was never the same and my mum (born 1943) never had a proper father figure as he was so mentally scarred by his experience. And that was just as a soldier freeing the camp, not a prisoner. The ripple effect from this was horrendous. It didn't just end in 1945. Poor people. I love all those who perished.
