The very sad news was announced today 7 October 2011 that Duke had died at 55+
of old age, natural causes. RIP Duke, you were a magnificant beast and the finest
example of a huge, proud and really great bull elephant. You had carried and proudly
displayed the Kruger Park large tusker genes. May your boys follow in tour footsteps.

Both Duke`s tusks are now missing and have broken off. The right tusk slightly longer than the left, but both very short &
approx 40cm long. They have fortunately
been recovered by wardens, but what a
pity. Duke will now likely never gain his rightful place in the Letaba Elephant Hall.
He is not a particularly large bull and estimated at 55 years. The tusks were very large & could`ve compared with the
best in the Elephant hall. Yes, he is now no longer the largest alive Kruger tusker.

poor elephant is old, tired.
Also, having very long tusk is not that good for elephant, because they quite easily break (yes, they do).
And when they break, elephant becomes agressive.
But nevertheless, it looks very good when a creature has such huge tusks.

Are you sure his tusk broke off, or did poachers get to him?
