my God 1600 dollars. No wonder people prefer piracy. in my part of the world (Asia), that's why we have never seen original software in our life. Believe me, i have never in my life saw any of my buddies or even govt offices using original software. That's because they are so overpriced and out of reach.

It's expensive because a team of people had to create it, build it, market it, sell it. It's business. It's expensive because it works well. The copiers are building their pirated software off the backs of the innovators.

But more importantly, its expensive because the actual market of people they have to sell these products to is painfully small. Microsoft Office fits the same criterea as you just laid out, but it sells for about one tenth the price, because everyone needs an office suite.

And most people are too dumb/sheltered/blind/easily marketed to realize OpenOffice (which, yes is inferior) is free. Or that you can get Microsoft Office online for free...if you look in the right places.
