Yeah those educated Friars knew and respected history, they studied Latin text. Why in the world would they burn scrolls. Never burn books, imagine our world now if books were never burned.
Leave it up to christian fanatical kooks to ruin and destroy all because they`re too fucking closed minded to consider that others who don`t share there views should be left alone. What`s killed more people than disease or any other cause combined? Religion. That mind set "Accept it or die" is what`s cost millions there lives. I`ve told many christians "I don`t accept it and it makes you so angry you want to kill me, ever heard of thou shalt not kill? Your not a christian, your a fanatical"
it would be wise the keep the one man's 'mistake' allegorical because we know very accurately and precisely well how the british, french and the Portuguese empires had plundered asia and africa, similarly the nazis' extermination of the jews. practically, we shouldn't forget that all these, 'expansion and civilizing missions' had occurred centuries after the spanish conquistadors.
i dont know if its in this episode or the Aztecs episode but one of the leader looks like the oompa loompa from the latest charlie nd the chocolate factory. ahahahaha!
That Spanish friar Diego Velandas made a monumental mistake by burning those Myan Texts. Obviously they would've also contained plans on how their empire was constructed. What a brainless screw-up!
If you think about it, Christianity was forced on our ancestors with very severe punishment for not being a "believer". How can anyone today follow a religion with such a brutal past?
@pucksterz12 Christianity has no brutal past. Man, however, does. Even Jesus Christ Himself said to go around and spread the word (gospel) to other peoples, but if they refuse to listen, then "wipe your feet off" and move on. Jesus Christ did not say to force others to believe what He said. Go read the New Testament in the Bible if you do not believe me. It's true. So man is at fault here, not "Christianity". Man is corrupt and claims to be "Christian" when they yet do not do Christian deeds.
@Northax I've read the bible and it's filled with conjecture and ambiguity after being translated so many times then finally to english, I don't see how anybody can get anything intelligent or inspiring out of its cryptic content. Everyone has their own interpretation of it, that's why there is a division of religions of Christianity.
We can learn a lot from the Maya. Hopefully we'll discover more interesting knowledge from their amazing civilization.
It's a shame that various churches ever destroyed knowledge. Let's hope we all learn from that and not let it happen again. Information should be shared, not destroyed.
@HoundofOdin I agree dude, but Spanish still have to understand all the damage they made during more than 300 years of domination to almost a whole continent, forbiding science and development, the world keept walking while the american invaded territories were just slaved working to give gold and silver to the king... Spain was part on creating this monster of inequality, poverty and undevelopment, so now dont complain about latin imigration to España.
@PakistaniisPower And the ancient muslims didn't? They attacked ancient Byzantine and Spain hundreds of years ago. The Japanese attacked the Koreans and Chinese. I'm not at all happy what that asshole bishop did, it's probably one of the most shameful things Christianity and Spain has ever done. Just don't start blaming all of Europe for one mans stupid error.
@613bo Jesus Christ said to let others know about Him, but NOT to force it on them. So really, these so-called "Christians" were not doing what Jesus Christ Himself said to do. These people were corrupt and criminal.
@totallyinvogue Europeans did bring diseases that Native Americans did not have much natural immunity to. That's why so many died out, but not all, of course.
"...one of the great tragedies in human history..." You got that right!

@Graham6762 My guess is these texts were never burned, but rather taken and hidden - say to the Vatican library.
