I actually really liked the fast tempo, it made me smile a lot. I loved the entire solo part, except how she pronounced "Zion." I didn't care much for when the orchestra joined in.
but what about the performers interpretation? A joyous occasion, I think the tempo s reflective to what is happening. I don't think its impossible, just a strong orchestra and soprano :D
Right. This is supposed to be much slower. I tried to sing with it; well, the advantage is that it's easier to get through those long streches of notes with one breath, especially at " ..into the high mou ---------ntain" and at "and the glo o o o o o o....ry of the lord", although I suspect that's not the idea. But can you imagine Kathleen Ferrier turning over in her grave listening to this (mind you, HER version is a bit TOO slow!)
The speed is insane, but about right. I tried singing along and it's a lot easier at this speed if you *have* a vocal technique.
It is in 6/8 which is 2 in a bar...
Asawa doesn't really phrase off zion though, which arguably he *should* since the 2nd syllable is naturally weaker than the first when you say it (i.e. a "feminine" ending).
Great commentary on our culture.....but what's going on with the great tempo of the soloist and the ratcheting down of the following chorus tempi? Wierd.
But wonderful pictures of the casinos.....a terrific effort! Just dump the pedestrian chorus.
what's with the casino? i feel like it really doesn't apply. Jesus' birth wasn't about flashiness and pomp.

Now this is the way this aria should be done! Minkowski is the greatest conductor in the world!

How fun! Yes, a crazy tempo, but nice to have, and coupled with film makes great brain food.

The singer is not a woman, but a counter-tenor : Brian Asawa.

Hmmm...
For me, this aria was always fast.
I appreciate slower versions but I'm so conditionned by Paul McCreesh version, I can't imagine other approach...
By the way.
I think a faster tempo matches the text.

Nice pictures.
I played Kathleen Ferrier, while this was playing; instead of the featured artist -have you been to Las Vegas?
Was that you in the white toweling gown? at 2:34.
I found Las Vegas to be a bit too much like a resort town, the people were very friendly and so too, were the locals I met, there.
What say you?
Cheers.
