All congress had to do was set up a separate institution other than the Federal Reserve and print there own money interest free. They could back the new currency with gold or silver and let the united states know that they must trade there dollars in for the new currency. A debt is nothing more than the claim that you will produce value in the future, to offset the assets now. The government can do that too, but we're the producers of value, and if they undermine our ability to create value, then the debt accumulates for that much longer. That's is the whole problem.

The peso was pegged to the dollar..of course, everything was manipulated, Argentina sold off it's infrastructure to the EU (gas/oil, telecommunications), and people tried to get their money out...but no..we are not giving you your american dollars. We'll give you certain-amount of pesos for your dollars.
So, the sad situation evolves, the currency goes to 3 pesos to 1 dollar..and the once stable argentine middle class is now destroyed.

True. The monetary system we use in this country & most (but not all) of the world is based upon central banks. The money we have is fiat money – money by decree. The Federal Reserve can, if they choose, create trillions of dollars without government involvement or oversight.
Note who received the trillions of dollars from Feb. 2010. It certainly wasn’t the poor or middle class.
