  • Falconer seems not to like noblemen and bourgeois in its songs. I love Mathias Blad's voice.

  • Anyone know where I could buy this song?? It's not on iTunes. Well, it is, just not by Falconer. And I like theirs the best.

  • Bränn häxan!

  • You don't realize just HOW beautiful this is until you hear other people's versions. I've just listened to about four different renditions of this song, and this one completely blows all the others out of the water, especially vocally! No one else comes within miles of comparing to Mathias!

  • How sad it was for Maria. Let us enjoy the musical talent, but remember better the moral of the song:

All individuals are free. They are not slaves or property to anyone else. Do right by your fellow person.

  • i must have listened to this song a hundred times tonight, the moral of the story just pulls at me heart, thanks for the lyrics it gives so much depth to the song.

  • Have studied Swedish only for a little time. But if I remember it correctly "att få veta" means "to get to know"...

Given the context of the song, I think the last lines can be translated as

"and we, who witnessed the way things really went, are made believe that we dreamed all that"

Smth like that I guess :)

  • This band inspired me to learn Swedish.

  • An old swedish song made by Björn Afzelius(well known person in Sweden).

    Anyway great cover :)

  • OMG 3:20 is so fukin epic! =D

  • Btw, jag älskar svenska osh Falconer förstås:)

  • Is this in old swedish? I am learning modern swedish and it's a little bit different...

  • @Rashchanin

It's not old swedish, because that's hardly recognizable from modern swedish.

But he uses a couple of "short for" words, you could say.

Like every time he uses the word "e", it's a local form for "är", because many people speak it as long "e" instead of "är", so they write "e" also, even if it isn't grammaticly correct.

  • @OlaEli Tack så mycket!:)

  • Hearing Mathias sing this gives me the feeling that this was the way this song was always meant to be performed.

  • Awesome song. And a really deep story with quite some wisdom in it.

  • This song is really good, thanks for taking the time to post it and to translate it as well :)

  • Oh, how I love this beautiful song! The Swedish language is also beautiful. I'm trying to teach myself to learn Swedish and German.

  • i learned vad gor du?today

  • Besides the meaning of the song, the language sounds very cool!!!

  • oh, i think the text can easily be interpreted as left wing critizism. Also things like the warm sun colouring the sky RED. The song was originally written by björn afzelius, who is a socialistic songwriter, so this is probably intended, but well, no, it isn´t directly communistic

  • @AndersPus2 ja precis, Björns original är helt okej men Falconers version är bättre! :D

  • great song. Jag älskar språk.

  • The song is awesome and a bit grim like the rest of their songs..but what does it have to do with *kommunism*???lol

  • @LeninKGB Actually, this song wasnt made by Falconer. It is a cover of Björn Afzelius song :) pretty awesome cover though!

  • @habbihabbi I think "Inperiet"'s cover is cooler I mean its a rock version:)

  • @mistyli123 yeah well, thats true, its more rockish, but the sound in this song should stay like this.. damp, dark and a bit depressed ^^ makes it much more worth listening to

  • @LeninKGB it has nothing to do with kommunism:) Kungens means the king:)

  • @LeninKGB

The song was written by Björn Afzelius, a Swedish communist. The setting is a traditional Swedish/European old monarchy. It's supposed to work as a metaphor, however. It's a little more legible in Swedish sentence; "Yes, The noblemen/owners become heroes, but the ordinary people condemned."

  • @Minefeldt thank you for your explanation,i didnt know swedish communists could write such an amazing song :)))

  • @LeninKGB well obviusly! all communist rulers have been dictators, and the millitary have always been taken before the people, and sofiah get´s killed and the knight get´s selebrated (sry about the spelling, abit drunk xD)

  • @LeninKGB It is rather obvious when you look at the lyrical themes, the Knight is clearly a representation of the upper-class (being the "King's man"), and Maria is obviously a representation of the working class - who fights back against oppression (rape, in this case), but ends up being punished for it. It's a huge boot to the class society, something that many communistic views are opposed to. Perhaps the analogy is less apparent in the English translation, however.

  • @Purgatog I appreciate your constructive explanation which finally revealed the true essence of this song.Nevertheless i must admit that its a quiete odd way of expressing socialist/communist ideas,to my mind it looks rather like a demonstration of an ordinary medieval injustice and cruelty which were very prominent and usual back in the days and that scarcely has anything to do with our century. But that is merely my subjective opinion, great song anyways:)

  • @LeninKGB Very true, but when it comes to all writing, one has to taken into account the context in which it was written. In this case, the song was written in our time, so I belive that is a strong case for the analogy argument. Further, the songwriter in this case, has written many songs that are clearly socialistic in nature, and this song I believe takes it a step further.

But yes, you are right, this is all very subjective, and indeed the song is great :)

  • Mathias's voice on this song is positively bone-chilling. So epic, I love it.

  • love this song!!!! <333

  • And also, the last line "får veta att vi drömt" could also be that "we are told it was just a dream".

  • as with most translation, there are sometimes quite a few ways to translate some words and sentences.

Thanks for showing that "Alternate" translation

  • Hey, I noticed a small typo there..Nothing but but at 2:15 it says ''Och riddaren e död'' while it should say ''Och riddaren är död''. Not the best in Swedish, but that's how it's said I thinks.

  • Whops, made a small mistake there...All keyboards don't have ''Ä''. :d so sry 'bout that.

  • Awesome translations m8.

    I'm swedish, but still appriciated!

About the keyboards, many keyboards dont have Ä ä Ö ö and so on, but many keyboards have the [ ¨^~ ] key, which combines into ö ä ï ë and so on.

  • I think its important to say that falconer didint make this song, its a cover...

  • Very True, I think many of us, (or at least the fanatics like me :P) knew this but have simply said nothing about it

  • I love this song, though I can't find a dman copy of it anywhere unless I buy the Japanese import of 'Chapters'. Any suggestions?

The end of that last verse Matthias really gives it some bollocks. That guy is brilliant!!!!

  • Well nothing much you can do considering it is the Japanese Bonus track.

Perhaps you could pm me and we could talk a little more about giving you the song

  • the beg of the song reminds me of a song, that i heard ones, but its the same one. this song is really good one. falconer is a really good metal band.

  • no, it's swedish, not danish^^

  • Its Swedish, if it was Danish u would hear a form of Mumbeling..

  • haha, så sant..

  • @SvitjodsJarl Haha, Good shot!

  • @SvitjodsJarl Or skånska. Denmark and the "Swedish" Skåne is the same shit. In my opinion! Greatings from Gällivare, northern Sweden :)

  • any1 english thinks these songs are good?

  • yes, i do

  • I think this is amazing and beautiful. Thank you very much for not only uploading it but also adding the translation to the video.

  • I do, its very good, and the translation helps...

  • va heter snubben?

  • Wikipedia, sök på Falconer.

  • Jättekul! Tack!

  • Falconer with Matthias Blad is better than with Göbbels. Falconer out with a new album this month!!! More swedish songs, four to be correct!!

  • Much better than the other versions...

  • it is good isnt it?

  • Swedish and Norwegian are almost the same language???

  • ...Some language scientist says that, since a swedish person can understand a norwegian person without learning his language (and the opposit). But to go from that to say that it actually is the same language is quite too far.

  • i speak/learn swedish and i noticed that i do understand norwegian also without ever read some words before

  • Norwegian is speaking swedish with a potatoe in ur mouth

  • Nah, thats Danish =)

  • Post for: DaniRs1

  • Actually Danish is more like Swedish than Norwegian. But they sure speak funny O.o

  • Actually not, why these languages are so influenced with eac other is because the rugged terrain has made it hard for any new languaged to establish.thus when the danish tried to convert them to danish they failed, and the norwegian language which the academic part uses is much like danish, almost a copy, but the original language, nynorsk is similar to swedish. so if you take a swede from the south danish would be close by, but should you take one of the rest 85% of sweden it would be norwegian

  • Nice translation, and im swedish ;)

  • The credit goes to Mattias Bladd, i think, the site said it was his translation :D

  • Awesome you should do the same with "Per Tyrssons Döttar I Vänge" xD

  • oh i will be doing it

  • AWESOME!!! Thank you!!

  • the best vesion of this song i think ultimathulle or diapsalma sings but not that this song or that he sing bad only that its more speed in thos 2

  • sorry what does that mean?

  • I think that means "Is Falconer swedish"" in swedish. ;)

Swedish and Norwegian differs slightly but I'm 95% sure of that. :p

  • okay if it does mean that, then yes Falconer is swedish.

  • Awesome cover!
