  • does anybody else desire wearing nothing but black and reading strange monotone-like poetry in a small cafe in a dim spotlight while smoking a cigerette youve had in your hand the entire day?

  • Who's high??

  • Who ever disliked this song is an idiot....

  • still sounds outrageously current..dayum! Now where's my oxycontin, black tar and 2CB at....lol

  • This is the absolute best album. I <3 them.

  • and i do suffer...

  • sex

  • Nice bass, and sounds of the trumpet drizzling all around in the air like a thick, smooth ice cream float.

  • modern day Beatnik music, daddy-o (((snaps fingers)))

  • This is the first time I have heard them & I can't stop. song after song

  • @duceboy100

    Same here.

  • @duceboy100 been a fan for years and its hard to stop listening still

  • this song makes me want to copulate...a lot.

  • @jirdimaster that is definitely a trumpet with a mute in the bell. Good effort though.

  • nice bass and vocals

  • 10 dislikes and they can all kiss dick.

  • Smokestep.

  • Those who don't like this just don't believe in miracles.

  • every time that bass comes in my ears thank me

  • portishead,tricky,massive attack,and hooverphonic are awsome!

thumbs up if u agree (if u know their names)

  • @BlackBlair09Baby Thanks for mentioning Hooverphonic, love the other bands, now I have something new (to me) to chase up

  • beth gibbons will you marry me

  • The saxophone in this blew my effin mind!

  • @jirdimaster It's a trumpet with a mute.

But you're right, definitely mind blowing.

  • 2:05 aaaah gives me the chills

  • @TheSuperchillmonkey For sure. GREAT break here.

  • beth have a amazing voice!

  • amazing.. just amazing.. love the bassline**

  • The bass from this song vibrates my whole house. I have to drop my stereo's volume to about half of what I normally have it at whenever I play it, haha.

  • @cockardo This track's got a better bass line than 90% of the hip-hop songs out now!

  • ALL her songs make me feel like a badass

  • Damn that bassline!

  • All time fav!

  • Beth is my siren and could steer me into my oblivion

  • your putting the portis on a pedestal

  • Beth makes my pants tighter

  • Heil Portishead

  • wow *.* cool *.*

  • beth makes me let out a tear... sometimes

  • This is my favorit portishead song, ive listened to them for a while now and they have A LOT of good stuff as you all may know, but this song is just too good. My brain begs more everytime i listen to it!

  • tbh I searched for this song because I heard it on a clip from my life as liz.

  • the first picture is sooo pretty

  • tune scratches at my soul

  • I enjoy John Coltrane and Duke Ellington also for muted trumpet grooves. Echos of Harlem is first to come to mind.

  • I listen usually to progressive rock, heavy metal and the likes, and never to any electronic or dance music, yet this band really got me, its more honest than - however it pains me - than 80% of metal bands and it feels so natural, so orchestrated - even if not densely - that grudgingly I became a fanboy to their subtlety and soul.

  • @eydos you heard any amon tobin or massive attack? they got something similar going

  • @CybertoothAURX thanks for the tip, I must look up amon tobin

  • @eydos Hey im mostly a fan of metal too and most specifcally progressive, folk and death metal. Yet his band has something really special, and like you say subtile, that catches my ear and mind/soul.

  • I out Portishead playlist on repeat and just unwind. They are simply awesome.

  • Jazz song of the future.

  • what is pedestal??

  • @canf95 Definitions of pedestal on the Web:

base: a support or foundation; "the base of the lamp"

a position of great esteem (and supposed superiority); "they put him on a pedestal"

an architectural support or base (as for a column or statue)

  • @canf95 you didnt just ask that

  • Portishead can not be described with words, some of its songs like "Pedestal" its just an art piece.

  • If anyone has any song that use a similar saxophone part to this please please give me some names, I love that stuff and would really like to expand my collection of records. Thanks!

  • @0ElectricWizard its muted trumpet... try miles davis

  • I would love to be possessed by this woman. Sssssssssssensuality of the mind

  • this music makes me wanna wear black clothes. not emo or goth or any of that stupid shit, but black like....

    an old college drama student

  • @skateNappreciate or a witch! I see witches around a cauldron with this music...maybe it's just the Hallowe'en hangover I'm still on.

  • Zmysłowy kawałek...niezwykle koi

  • love this song beautiful and mellow as fu ck!

  • Love it

  • I make IDM music, it would be great if you guys would listen! =D

  • is the lead singer a crackhead? or what drug does she do?

  • @pinkrudy why must she be a drug addict to make beautiful music?

  • @nikkisn20 no, she is too skinny and dresses like a guy... seems like typcal crack or herion personality.

  • @pinkrudy that doesnt mean shit.

  • @pinkrudy holy sh**...i couldn't pass on this!

speaking about her kilos,or that she wears man clothes is just ridicilus. i hope she laughs at that...

she's way more beautifull, and sexy than plenty todays lady Caca's!!!

she can freese the blood in your veins!

Beth, sing for 100 years more please!

  • happiness does not exist without pain, no light without night, no life without blood...if you did not know the beauty and ecstasy of your soul weeping....well listen and learn...no time make a reason...

the celebration of at least 50% of life ....darkness...

p.s. the dots mean i could talk 3 years about that....

maybe the music says more, eh?

  • I've always felt empty not knowing any artist that could interpret my true self. Ever since Portishead came into my life, that emptiness as been bountifully filled. Long live Portishead!

  • from 1998-2000 i lived on portishead...

  • Heard this song when I was watching : Liz and sully chasing Scene..

    great song!

  • The muted horn solo is fucking perfection.

  • @sexismorbid there is nothing - NOTHING - anywhere on the 1st two portishead albums that isn't perfection. i specify only the 1st two because i haven't yet heard the 3rd & don't know of a 4th.

  • i would ride my bike like 7:00 ish to the high school stadium to go run and passing stores and my little town this is a groove just wont stopt grooving ...i would also smoke my fatty boom batty joint might i add to relax........ and relax i did!

  • Is there anyone who can recommend any music like this? I've searched quite alot, but its so hard to find this blend of soothing bass and scratch..

  • @Sqlldude anything by Yonderboi or Mazzy Star is great. Oh yeah,, Cowboy Junkies are awesome.

  • @Sqlldude Bonobo is the underground better version of Portishead, check him out

  • @Sqlldude Look up trip hop on Wikipedia. They list other groups under this genre.

  • reminds me of being 12 ..loved it then and I still do..amazing

  • so funny hearing everyone try and rip this off for the past 15 years.

    keep on tryin!

  • sit your shit in a dark room. Pulse, and vibe. ~~~~

  • Sex.

    That is all.

  • Love this song! Long live portishead!

  • "so hows your quiet desperation going?"

    "sssshhhh..."

  • Is the horn solo sampled or did they get a session player in?

  • Just found out, it was a session player called Andy Hague.

    Nice solo :)

  • adoro portishead es supremo elevado lo maximo

  • Is it just me or does anyone else get up and dance to Portishead?

  • @LadyofWar1980 Yes at times after a few beers lights off in dark fantastic!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lose myself in the beats and hypnotic trance

  • @LadyofWar1980 I kinda do,mine is more slowly dancing with my friends, this is a ecsatcy song! Though we don't take ecsatacy

  • excelente ! :)

  • It was the strangest time for the fearless mixing of influences topped by haunting vocals. When I listen now,I realise that, although not commercial PH and Massive were shifting the goalposts. And samplers must owe them millions, listen to Madonna's Justify my Love,(haha if you can),Straight out of Bristol, not Compton.

  • what genre of music is this ? i usually listen to dubstep and drum and bass but this stuff is awesome can anyone tell me other similar bands ?

  • Oh Beth Gibbons.

  • Portishead has the face of today's era:

    sad, heavy, without hope.

this's one of my favourite of his songs, very alternative.

    excuse my shit english.

  • Without hope?

  • cybersphere, i said "without hope" because i believe in the "greenhouse effect",few days ago here in são paulo state was making 32/33 degrees celcius and it's spring and the summer not yet arrived . . . :O

    heat irritates!

excuse my bad humor and english too.

  • My third favorite P'head tune behind Half Day Closing and Biscuit. Not many bands can create such an appealing atmosphere like these guys.

  • she looks pretty on this pick

  • it's not hip hop, it's trip hop son, but yes it does have a nice beat :)

  • my favorite trip hop song.

and i agree with the comment about how it has a harder beat than most hip hop

  • this shit right here has a harder beat than most hip hop///and a girl singing makes it that much better

  • this song is dope, its what made me get into not only there group but trip hop all together.

  • This is amazing with nice subs.

  • Check out this bassline, superb! So dark and haunting! Brixton 2008 - AMAZING

  • I love the drumming in this one.

  • classic triphop. everyone else are copycats.

  • what about massive attack?

  • That's so subjective to say, especially since I think that there isn't a single bad Portishead song. Every song is pure gold, but then again, trip hop being one of my absolute favorite genres, I suppose I have a much deeper appreciation for it.

  • Many Many more than that, Portishead are on a different level than most...
