@1978JIMD Yes; he was completely unharmed as was his display case. The Laughing Man had been removed for overhaul and winter storage by the time the disastrous fire occurred. Apart from that the Laughing Man's home was outside the Fun House and several yards away from it. Some days after the fire a gleeful Mr. Geoffrey Thompson the Pleasure Beach boss was pictured in the newspapers triumphantly holding old Laughy's head!

Haha You must be about the same age as me then (15). When I filmed this last year, the day before I filmed the clown, we went up the tower and although I am scared of heights, I did lay face down on that pane of glass with my eyes open although at over 500ft, it did sometimes make me be a bit careful....

@sniff001 I was in Blackpool yesterday and they've changed the main clown for a different, less scary looking one, It's still in the same place though and has the same mini clown. The original was sinister, lol

@sniff001 No hun, I'm not kidding - they may have just temporarily moved him to do maintenance on him. After reading all these rumours about him still laughing despite being burnt during the 1991 fire has freaked me out though *shudders.

How could you want to buy him, lol - he's utterly terrifying. After watching all these vids and reading all the comments, I ended up dreaming I'd been cursed by him and I woke my hubby up by screaming in my sleep XD x

Seems a lot of people were scared of it - I can see how it could be scary if you were young but now at the ripe old age of 15 (me), it doesn't scare me. I suppose its scarier when its moving but it wasn't moving when I was there.

No. His outfit has always been 'clown like' although cleaned up and updated from time to time. Geoffrey Thompson himself always called him 'the laughing man' Re-locating him from outside the entrance of the Pleasure Beach was a big mistake. Where he is now he has to compete with the sound of the Revolution behind him and the clatter of the Avalanche lift-chain in front. Also he is no longer seen by all Pleasure Beach visitors. The 20p 'donation' to hear him is also a bit mean !
