  • i came up with this sh...t back in hi school...its slices of an object viewed all at the same time...a regular image is viewed from a flat plane...while a 3D form images requires slices of an virtual object that takes up real space thus calling it volumetric or spacial..

  • Imagine porn o_O

  • this is amazing it opens up soo many possibilities

  • not so excited about this sort of display... stereoscopic + head-tracking does same job. for multiple viewers, just have multiple tv's, & telepresence more usefull for society (avoid transport costs)

of course anything can have unforseen uses

  • next generation of wii

  • The Nintendo Woot

  • y wont u just get a hp touch pc

  • This is a research project. What exactly can you learn from buying an touch pc?

What would have been if the engineer who designed that panel of the HP touch pc would "just have bought an crt"?

    No research, no progress.

  • think its a realy good idea but i think the dispay could be more stable and less flashey

  • its a glass dome with a thin, quickly rotating coil inside it. The flashyness is from the rotation, but its a necessary evil for now, as the projection needs something to be projected on. I guess a quicker rotation of the coil would stabilize the picture a bit, but until we manage to design a way to project forcefields, or some other solution, we're gonna have to stick with this kind of holographic projection, methinks.

  • thats only cause of the camera.

because the device is spinning and has a refresh rate, and the camera has a frame rate : you will get flickering.

to your eyes, it is solid.

  • While true, you have to remember this is more of a proof of concept, and is paving the road ahead for new technologies.

  • when your hands and fingers are in front of this camera moving around the data is translated in real time into the actual positions, motions, and distances from the object displayed in the perspecta 3d globe system. Look into A4vision tech to replace that motrack crap you using now. I think Nintendo's next new game system will try to use both your tech and A4's to realize new gaming.

  • I want it for Zbrush. Also why are you guy not using a circular disc Organic LED display system that has the full color options of a traditional LCD display with the silver coated opposing. It would be bright enough to eliminate the needs to be seen in darkness issue. The rotating circular oled disc would be light weight enough. Escaping the crude vector display it currently is running would be the best part about it. Since it would work like an lcd monitor. Push this concept further please!

  • The computer game industry would defenitly benifit from this. Selling these displays along side a consol and perhapse reducing the sound emmsion and increasing the size would pave the way faward for the newest gaming technologies.

  • There needs to be a decent programming API (Advanced Programming Interface) using the 3d environment to provide further advancement. It seems like it would make a great tool for those who could envision the uses (which are better left to the imagination anyway.)

  • wow...if the image could be stabilized, I think there's definitely something there :o

  • that's just an effect of the display running at a different frequency than the camera that is filming it

  • Note, the display only looks flickery because of persistence of vision, its the effect that a camera produces, say, when your watching a movie and a car's wheel appears to be turning backward, this is because the camera is reocrding faster then the object is rotating.

  • They left clutches out of driving games for years, not because it was technologically impossible, but because it was too difficult for the average user. These are just novelties developed to get funding for some larger project.

  • soon we can use our minds :B lol

  • As soon as the person awakens from the seizure that this device induces, he/she could have some real fun!

  • lmfao yeah

  • maybe it look so only on camera

  • too bad no one can get inside

nice for the army i supose :P xD

  • very impressive :)) now my question is, what if the resolution was much better and you made a huge dome and put a person inside instead of outside :))

  • the persons will die becous there is a mirror inside thats turning very fast or do I understand you wrong:P

  • omg, Great invention, now if only i spoke your language! what language background are you from? the language geek! i appreciate your brains as it by far exceeds my inferior mind though COME ON TALK HUMAN ENGLISH NOT GEEK CLINGON

  • or maybe you're just an under educated Australian.

  • LOL xD

    You'll learn, dude.

  • Okay so in your language that would be what?

    "Shiny picture!! So pretty!"

Seriously dude, some of us have an education and like to learn about new things, albeit hard to understand...

  • that must have taken ages to design but the interface is primitive one up from a mouse we want three d objects that can be manipulated like reality and that return feed back ie sensations of weight and touch sound etc so that we can interact with the simulation without learning that gobbledy gook language you geeks keep trying to make us all use come on push harder in different directions look at the way we interact with real objects and work backwards from that premise not v versa

  • I just watched a video called the video named "Miracle in the DNA -presented in 3D environment" on youtube linked to v=6mQgMjsxGDo was really good at 3D environments. I dont know which technic was used exactly but it look awesome. The irradiation is made by digital fusion I think, must be seen.

  • blessed are the geek... for they shall inherit the earth :)

  • SIKE

  • niiiice. minority report style

  • Thats how my old UFO control panel works.

  • Very Nice. I hate those porn spammers like doretemptingmomkh. It would be very very very good for gaming. But it is too hard for designing. So it may have a better opportunity on gaming.

  • i know. i waz thinking the same thing

  • it is very inersting

  • looks to me like a failed prototype, amazing it made it this far for someone to even talk about it

  • Niiice. That guy kinda looks like Tom Cruise huh? :)

  • When can i get one? Lol. Its cool but wow.

  • This and 3D desktop from the same team looks very interesting, It's the approach to the use of gesture that I really like, hopefully something that the iPhone will popularise. Potential? I can envisage pupils with learning difficulties using games environments that allow them to play until they build up an adequate relatively natural set of gestures that they can then use for things like developing their ability to sort and sequence, categorise, I'm sure there would be loads more beyond this.

  • It's interesting but the software seems a bit primitive. Is there like a computer built into the device? I wonder what the potential for such a device is in the coming years....

  • it is amazing what dreams and lots of coding can accomplish.

  • wow, this was very interesting :)

  • Thank you for uploading this great video
