  • This is a very typical reaction in a tank but the fish do not do this in the lakes because the female would leave. We study these fishes underwater, they are amazing to watch. Jeffrey McCrary, Laguna de Apoyo Nature Reserve, Nicaragua.

  • I got a baby midas a couple of days ago and all it does is hide. Will that change?

  • @Ricine

when u feed them try to be playful to him/her, and as they get older feed them small pieces of shrimp, eventually when they like it, u can hand feed them and they become very playful...let them chase ur hands outside the tank etc..

  • the best way.. is to mix a female that is quite a bit smaller, and then create a separator in the tank with a hole where she can fit only and this way they will mate, and then she can retreat to her safe area of the tank and he can't pass thru, and then she will live and have her babies.

  • I just bought another Midas hoping that it was a female about the same size, but I put it in with the male and he dominates....You think that there is any chance of haveing them mate? Or do think that one will just kill the other?

  • @dkjadem if you do not separate them, he will eventually kill her.,

  • I have a midas just like that and I can't keep any tank mates with this one either. Looks just like yours. Do you know if yours is a male or female?

  • @dkjadem this is a male, he also kills all tank mates, its typical of a male that size to like to rule, and be aggressive i have another midas and he is even more aggressive.

  • thats a nice midas are you planning to breed it

  • hey can ne one tell me wen is a good time to start feeding my midas live fish hes about 3 or 4" now pls help me and wht kind of fish should i feed him

  • im tjhinking of starting a 90 gallon with just midas' and severums

  • midas cichlids are just another type of red devil, and can be less, just.or even more aggressive than a red devil.Still great looking fish

  • Midas are awsome fish, they are fun right from babies and get funner as they grow older, they are very smart and quite aggressive, lots of fun to feed as they will eat right out of your hand if you treat them well. good luck

  • I Think its a female she is very Friendly hand fed her after 2 hours of her being in the tank :-) But she needs to stand her groung i am making a 1000L or 267 U.S gallon aquarium filled with aggresive Cichlids so she needs to get a TAD meaner

  • Hi Lovely Midas BTW.I Bought a Barred Midas 2Days ago (cos he seemed to be getting beat up and he was in very bad condition)

  • damn dude get a bigger tank this is tooo small for this fish this is too sad for words...

  • i've been told midas/red devils are super aggressive in most tanks smaller than 1000 litre and thus the reason he doesn't want to share any space in a 40 gal tank, if housed in a large enough tank they become more tolerant to tankmates, cool fish though..

  • isent that a red devel?

  • @MRdoffi he probably got it at petco or somethin so its most likely a hybrid of the two

  • get a bigger tank. thats not even 40 gallons lol

  • hi everyone, i found a lake in vic that has a huge wild population of cichlids. it is called hazelwood pondage and is a cooling pond for hazelwood power station. i caught a large banded jewel cichlid on a rod with a worm about 10" long and heaps of midas and blue banded cichlids in those square bait traps. only took about 45mins!

  • how many gallons is a 150 liers

  • I have a Midas also, he is about 13" and is super agressive and active. He bite me once and it actually broke skin! Haha, he was killing my other fish so I had to move them to another tank.

  • what is the size of your tank ...tell me please

  • this tank is about 150 litres

  • WAT SONG IS THAT MAN?

  • That song, by the-> Tubes -she's a Beauty

  • THANKS A BUNCH MAN! :0)

  • NO PROB,!!

  • @franco05 that's ok for just one of these fish, but others of the same size in that tank would be too small, and if you put small fish he'll eat them lol... I guess that's what happened to you...

  • he don 't like any other fish you try to put with him?

  • no he doesn't he actually kills any other fish put in this tank, thus he is alone.

  • what size tank

  • i used to have a female, she was a gorgeous fish, she dies tho... she was about 10" long :(

  • lol i bet that your midas would stand no chance with my tiger oscar , he is even more aggrezive than your midas, he had an albino tiger oscar with him but as soon as we put the albino in he went straight to work and he beat up my albino oscar so we had to sepparate them both otherwise the albino wud of died.

  • That would be interesting, however this Midas has taken down Midas his same size, and they had to be removed from the tank..by nature Midas has a tougher composition than an oscar, I have not yet seen a Fish that could survive with this Midas who is now even bigger, braunier and more baddass than in this video.

  • could two midas get along with two red devils

  • if they are big the fact that they are almost the same type of fish most likely not. but if you get them while they are small and of the same sex so there wont be breeding later on and you have enough room there's a chance

  • lol i think my red devils could fight your midas and win because my red devils (i have 2) took on two piranhas and won and then i took the more aggresive one ans the results were still the same and i agree with the midas vs oscar thing midas are more aggressive

  • well first of all if you do your homework you will find that most cichlids will kill or hurt a piranha, unless its a black rhom, but the rest are wimps on a 1 on 1 basis, as piranhas are packhunters., as far as fighting goes, its hard to say because there are too manyelements that come into play such as home tank advantage etc..good luck on your hobby.

  • wrong buzzy

  • it's around 40 galons in size

  • hey Im getting one of those and a red devil but was just wondering if they would get along since they are very much alike. by the way nice fish and very clean tank.

  • tnx, i think they may get along if u get them young and similar in size, its very possible they will become friends, the size of the tank will also be a factor, it its 55gal or preferable more they should be fine.

  • hey i have one of these an i was wondering how long does it take for them to develop the hump on there head

  • if its a male it should show sometime around the end of the 1st year, if its female, it may never show. after the 1st year it will then start to get thicker once they are about 8 inches long.

  • thanks, funny thing is he acts all tough but when my hand does go inside the tank for cleaning time, he shys away.

  • Nice midas.
