@khoroshoorange it does but nevertheless yeah the idea of God is a paradox.
He provides you with a choice to join with him or decline his so called "Salvation"
& when you choose wrong he punishes you with so called "plaques" and "guilt" yeah that i agree with.
But "god" or in this case "Jesus" didnt go out and preach to kill the bad, quite opposite. It wasn't Jesus who pulled the trigger it was rather his overzealous followers filled with Blindness who decided too.
@khoroshoorange jesus was preaching his beliefs on god ON BEHALF of judaism. the only true word of god is never really understood because the bible wasn't written by JESUS himself if u didn't know
but rather his followers.
he's the misunderstood victim of every one who's willing to bark at him rather than just turn away and live their lives without the word of so called "christianity" or "catholism"
just saying nobody knows shit about communist and socialists except we and some liberals, anarchists, and some other folks , im a big fan of crass but marx was never a commander of legions. the world is complicated , you cant just understand it in a second with broad statements. do you assume your ideals to have meaning when you act divisively towards your allies and others who share your ideas and activism? or is it just egotism? those who would call you their comrade, friend, or lover?
we are anonymous, we are aware of the corruption in the world's governments and their apathy for the human lives because of money.
we are aware of the governments' attempt to cover on the news of the rebellions to keep us as slaves for the current system.
we are anonymous, we declare war on the corrupted system, join the plan to get your freedom and rights back. you are a human being, your life has value. we are anonymous, we are legion, expect us!
"Then there were a thousand more" is heavier a point than any of those 'leader' individuals. Makes me think what good is freedom anyway when themajority of people seem to want to be lead and controlled and find their meaning in that. In that sense the punk movement is just another collective conciousness wanting to tell us how to live our lives.
I was 13 when I first started listning to this band in 1982 ,now in my Forties,oh what visionaries they are ,loved them in 82 ,now I ,in2010 ,know why!

I never quite got the Marx part. "you lean them well and then you're caught" .. like ... in jail for being a commie? or you're ensnared into being a left wing zombie?
Anyway, great song, and very fitting video. Crass forevar!
Crass doesn't seem to say that Jesus,Einstein, Marx or Jung where bad [nore that they where good],it's about those that take from their ideeas only what they can use in their own benefit and to have greater power even if their metodes aren't what Jesus,Einstein,Marx would like.

Why atheism by the way? God (whatever it may/may not be) seems unlikely, but you won't know for sure 'til you're dead will you?
It's a fair point Adam. If all conciousness of 'self' ceases at the point of death then of course you won't 'know' anything.

What a shame you posted the 2nd comment. When I read the first in my 'inbox' I had begun to think that you weren't so bad for an 'evil' satanist.
The point of this song is to highlight the flawed human desire to attach oneself to a tribe (established religion/political ideology) whereby people value the moral perscriptions of other flawed humans (Marx, Christ, LaVey etc.) above political/moral/philosophical judgements derived from the sum of their own experience.
There's nothing wrong with me agreeing with LaVey's moral system since I've had roughly the same morals since before I read of them, or learn from his studies of the occult because it interests me. Nor is there anything wrong with me enjoying the artful and enchanting poetry of Crowley.
Nor does any irrelevencey of all that in our discussion lessen. Your not the first person with so little resourcefulness that he has to attack my personal preferences instead of my presently used words.
I'm not quite sure what you thought the conversation was about, but as far as I was concerned it was about a very condescending 'reply' in my inbox (to an inconsequential and rather whimsical comment that I'd entirely forgotten I'd written) from some twerp who labels himself as evil. Checking further I discovered that the twerp considers himself a Satanist and acolyte of Anton LaVey. This struck me as a little ironic given the nature of song lyrics to which my original comment relates.
@mungogubbins anton lavey's satansim is an atheistic one. lavey's doctrine is rather hedonistic than satanic...a laveyan does not literally worship the devil, satan is praised in order to provoke christianity and contradict the bible claiming that god is the main source of evil if he's omniscient; therfore responsable for satan's "satanity". Although god and satan both remain ideal and symbolic for a Laveyan
@mungogubbins exactly, what matters here is not what the conversation is about, I'd written that simply because i'd felt like you ridiculed anton lavey's doctrine, that's all.
This was about the relevency of your rant. Which we established was a reply to someone else. So I then inform you the thing to do if you want to reply to someone without getting confused responses: Click fucking "REPLY."
I don't have to justify myself about my beleifs to you or anybody; it's my buisiness and mine alone! So get off of it, already! It still has nothing to do with anything, and the fact that you had to "check further" about me only shows how much of an insecure loser you are.
I also love how you're calling me twerp now. That must make you feel like such a big, mature, grown up lol.
Here's a newsflash, grandpa: You're on the internet! I can be as condescending to you as I fucking want, regardless of your age. And I can reply to whatever comment you made as I wish, regardless of inconsequentiality or if you had forgotten about it (something I'd have no way of knowing anyhow).
if we say there is no revolution than there shall be none.. but dont you think we need one? even if not on a significant level.. which be preferred, however change is needed. no, not obama change.. just another puppet.. but real over haul of how we do things. get back to our fellow man.
@crazyreefer-How do you propose the execution of said revolution? Violence? Who then will become the one that can make us all conform to the ideals of the victor?
to have unity and respect for ever being on this earth. we are all just punks trying to make it through this thing called life. why do we make it more difficult for eachother?
violence never does anything except make things worse or instill fear.
This isn't just about leaders taking you astray. It's about how everyone is individual. When you follow someone else's prescription for living, you're living by the parameters of their life and missing out on yours.
Crass is denouncing the fallacy of leaders, marxist ideals lead to the soviet bloc, einstein's IDEAS were subverted by leaders to kill and threaten the entire world, Jesus gave us christianity, crusades and the pope!
Fuck Obama, he's no better than the rest of the pigs. Anarchy and peace, not leaders and war!
I agree with your view, but don't compare einstein and marx, two ovbiously very intelligent yet somewhat misleaded men, to obama and jesus one puppet and one fictional character
@GunsOnRoof hey man i'm no christian but don't dismiss the philosophy of jesus like that. be a little more open-minded that's all. actually read shit about him and stuff he said. he's the most famous anarchist ever and most people don't even realize he was one.
even if he didn't exist (quite possible/probable) then the stuff whoever made him up wrote is still worth reading.
@AnarchyRules17 Christian morality is based on eternal servitude to an unknowable God. Anarchism is based on the rejection of all outside authority. What are you talking about?
No it's not. It's a bunch of nonsense written for a barely Bronze age, illiterate mass who didn't know enough to think for themselves & had to be told how to think, act & behave. It's all a load of wank.
crass is confused--the genius that was marx, einstein, and especially Jesus--cannot be denounced because people dont get it yet-you can't call for revolution without an answer to it--with the intricities of the modern world-you would be wiped out in a short period of time. you would be living in your own piss- you would not even know how to survive in the country (perhaps some) if you could make it out there. the only real way is to change it from within like Obama is trying to do.
regime change does nothing... its a flip flop an amazing juggling act that just perpetuates.... u talk to the genius of marx well marx would laugh at anyone who thought obama was going to fix things.
marx would tell us that obama will take us down one road for a while and then b4 long the next official would change our route(why do u think marxism involves strong single-minded government official to lead people to freedom)
This STILL blows my mind.... Crass gave us an exit from the mediocrity of Thatcherism, and I will always be grateful for that. But I'm amazed at how well its dated and how powerful the message still is.
Because they can, they can type what they like where ever they wan't. I'm not saying I appreciate reading a lot of it but..meh, it's a choice to read or respond to it isn't it?
isn't everybody/doesn't everybody? He was attempting to understand the human psyche,, i don't think anyone would call you an idiot for failing at that task. He was a victim of his time as well all are, in 40 years people will be calling all of us confused idiots.
Carl Jung was the shit in my opinion. The Archetype of the Shadow is fascinating, as well as his stance on saying "fuck you" to surveys and instead living with various cultures, studying their past and their present. He did seem to reach the brink of insanity as his studies consumed him, a very staggering sacrifice for a cause he believed in...Crass is a great band
I am a devout Catholic, conservative businessman, and family man. The fact is - I love CRASS and always did. You have to respect someone who is willing to stand up and speak the truth passionately despite the consequneces to themselves.
No consequences you say? Is that the world you live in? One where the little people pluck at the beard of the world banking neo-fascists and nothing happens but an ocassional knock about?
Welcome to the world of FBI files which track you for the rest of your natural life making it impossible to get a paying job so one can support one's kids... which one is lucky to do if one can stay out of jail long enough...
Know what, Crass told people to think for themselves - AND gave their own views. I always had the idea that they preferred their 'fans' to think for themselves, even if that means disagreeing with statements the band made, than parroting their slogans.
I must say that Crass showed me that there WERE alternatives, and although I don't agree with all they said, they opened my eyes in a couple of ways.
Besides, they weren't afraid to question their own ideas, and to say 'we were wrong' sometimes.
I'm not familiar enough with the subject matter to claim fact on any of this but I do believe the Native Americans lived along anarchist and anti-materialism lines. Did it work? I think so, to a point in time.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Most of crasses stuff i find pretentious i've been called thick for saying so but i think it's like the emperors news clothes (your dumb if you can't see it) i do like this one though
Never heard them called that before. At the time they actually lived their ideals, so no pretence. A friend of mine organised them to play in Lincoln UK, he never made enough money on the door to pay the band, however, they gave him £20 and all pitched in sweeping and cleaning the venue out afterwards.
I couldn't see the Pistols ever having done that.
Remember, it was Crass who bought back the Anarchy symbol, not Malcolm McClaren, who really is pretentious.
Hello sitjar i'm not questioning there ideals or their integrity and i'm certain they are all very personable it's just some of their tracks are very hard going. Then again maybe i'm just thick thanks for the reply though and remember NO GODS NO MASTERS NO GOVERNMENT
Yeah I can see how you find a lot of their output hard-going, the penis envy album is probably their most accessible. Not sure how that makes them pretentious but maybe it's me that's thick!

doesnt the bible say that god and jesus are the same?
its not important anyway.
they both suck and their dogma doesnt work.
if you really think about it.. if you believe in all that fictional bullshit god killed more people than any madman on earth ever did.
all throughout the bible you can read about an angry god who destroys or punishes those who dont follow his rules.
yes you are not allowed to kill but he certainly is.

mungogubbins 2 years ago 2
This was about the relevency of your rant. Which we established was a reply to someone else. So I then inform you the thing to do if you want to reply to someone without getting confused responses: Click fucking "REPLY."
I don't have to justify myself about my beleifs to you or anybody; it's my buisiness and mine alone! So get off of it, already! It still has nothing to do with anything, and the fact that you had to "check further" about me only shows how much of an insecure loser you are.
evilmick66 2 years ago
I also love how you're calling me twerp now. That must make you feel like such a big, mature, grown up lol.
Here's a newsflash, grandpa: You're on the internet! I can be as condescending to you as I fucking want, regardless of your age. And I can reply to whatever comment you made as I wish, regardless of inconsequentiality or if you had forgotten about it (something I'd have no way of knowing anyhow).

if we say there is no revolution than there shall be none.. but dont you think we need one? even if not on a significant level.. which be preferred, however change is needed. no, not obama change.. just another puppet.. but real over haul of how we do things. get back to our fellow man.
crazyreefer 2 years ago
@crazyreefer-How do you propose the execution of said revolution? Violence? Who then will become the one that can make us all conform to the ideals of the victor?
AtheistDaddy 2 years ago
you have it wrong sir! we come together.
value human life over material wealth.
:]
to have unity and respect for ever being on this earth. we are all just punks trying to make it through this thing called life. why do we make it more difficult for eachother?
violence never does anything except make things worse or instill fear.
its so simple. if we all could just see!

This isn't just about leaders taking you astray. It's about how everyone is individual. When you follow someone else's prescription for living, you're living by the parameters of their life and missing out on yours.
Muphdovian 2 years ago 11
well said :)
mrpantsonfire 2 years ago
Crass is denouncing the fallacy of leaders, marxist ideals lead to the soviet bloc, einstein's IDEAS were subverted by leaders to kill and threaten the entire world, Jesus gave us christianity, crusades and the pope!
Fuck Obama, he's no better than the rest of the pigs. Anarchy and peace, not leaders and war!
mckeegaunt 2 years ago 5
you must lick bush
anarchists prefer an obama opening to the insurrection
there is no 'revolution'
durgAUMurge 2 years ago
I agree with your view, but don't compare einstein and marx, two ovbiously very intelligent yet somewhat misleaded men, to obama and jesus one puppet and one fictional character
GunsOnRoof 2 years ago 13
@GunsOnRoof hey man i'm no christian but don't dismiss the philosophy of jesus like that. be a little more open-minded that's all. actually read shit about him and stuff he said. he's the most famous anarchist ever and most people don't even realize he was one.
even if he didn't exist (quite possible/probable) then the stuff whoever made him up wrote is still worth reading.
AnarchyRules17 1 year ago 8
@AnarchyRules17 I have no problem with what he preaches but the consequences of what people have done because of him are appalling.
GunsOnRoof 1 year ago
@AnarchyRules17 Christian morality is based on eternal servitude to an unknowable God. Anarchism is based on the rejection of all outside authority. What are you talking about?

@AnarchyRules17 i mean....jesus clearly existed, he just wasn't the son of god or anything. just a carpenter's son.

@AnarchyRules17
No it's not. It's a bunch of nonsense written for a barely Bronze age, illiterate mass who didn't know enough to think for themselves & had to be told how to think, act & behave. It's all a load of wank.

seamusheaney123 8 months ago
crass is confused--the genius that was marx, einstein, and especially Jesus--cannot be denounced because people dont get it yet-you can't call for revolution without an answer to it--with the intricities of the modern world-you would be wiped out in a short period of time. you would be living in your own piss- you would not even know how to survive in the country (perhaps some) if you could make it out there. the only real way is to change it from within like Obama is trying to do.
TheLisamitchell 2 years ago
regime change does nothing... its a flip flop an amazing juggling act that just perpetuates.... u talk to the genius of marx well marx would laugh at anyone who thought obama was going to fix things.
marx would tell us that obama will take us down one road for a while and then b4 long the next official would change our route(why do u think marxism involves strong single-minded government official to lead people to freedom)

This STILL blows my mind.... Crass gave us an exit from the mediocrity of Thatcherism, and I will always be grateful for that. But I'm amazed at how well its dated and how powerful the message still is.

Marx was quoted saying the state of life he despised most was servitude...could of been lying of course

I am a devout Catholic, conservative businessman, and family man. The fact is - I love CRASS and always did. You have to respect someone who is willing to stand up and speak the truth passionately despite the consequneces to themselves.

The consequences? rofl Theres no consequence for speaking your mind other than maybe getting hit. OOooooh so scary...
Get over it. These people arent that revolutionary as theres been people doing the same thing they have before them.

Most of crasses stuff i find pretentious i've been called thick for saying so but i think it's like the emperors news clothes (your dumb if you can't see it) i do like this one though
skunner64 3 years ago
Never heard them called that before. At the time they actually lived their ideals, so no pretence. A friend of mine organised them to play in Lincoln UK, he never made enough money on the door to pay the band, however, they gave him £20 and all pitched in sweeping and cleaning the venue out afterwards.
I couldn't see the Pistols ever having done that.
Remember, it was Crass who bought back the Anarchy symbol, not Malcolm McClaren, who really is pretentious.
sitjar 3 years ago 2
Hello sitjar i'm not questioning there ideals or their integrity and i'm certain they are all very personable it's just some of their tracks are very hard going. Then again maybe i'm just thick thanks for the reply though and remember NO GODS NO MASTERS NO GOVERNMENT
skunner64 3 years ago
Yeah I can see how you find a lot of their output hard-going, the penis envy album is probably their most accessible. Not sure how that makes them pretentious but maybe it's me that's thick!
