I love all your videos. I am a total rookie who just bought a D3100 and your videos have helped me understand the basics of my camera and key photography elements.
I believe people misunderstand composition. I seems like a lot of people these days simply want to follow a step by step concrete process, rather than exploring into composition themselves.
Instead of going out and trying new things, people spend more time watching videos about it. I believed learning composition comes from yourself, not someones else's techniques. Which is what you're suggesting in this video!
i actually liked the first Image and the lights and shades that it crated all of the other one specially the one's with the white house like thing in the background was kinda awful !
This is cool! And how about Time-Lapse Photography? do you know how to do it with ANY camera? check out this device: (copy to address bar): tempusALL.bymac.org
it sucks that no one thinks about composition so many great photos are wasted because of this Before I started to take an intrest in photographi all the pictures in our family were just flat on pictures of buildings nothing wrong with the picture itself but it was just boring to watch THANKS FOR THE VIDEO
True composition is very important to how powerful an image can become. Now not all have to follow "the rules" but .. knowing the rules and knowing when to use them and when to ignore them does makes pictures much more interesting. Not to if you take the time to know what you WANT .. then set up the composition and frame such way that you get it. You get it. If you don't know what you want.. well.. you can't work to it.
jared why in the world would you be shooting with 400 iso on a bright sunny day with a still subject at 1/1600th of a second and 3.5 fstop. thats why i sometimes disagree with how you shoot but hey everyone has there way of shooting who am i to tell you other wise? im just saying keeping it a 100 iso and like 1/640th of a second woulda been better to try to keep that iso as low as possible. especially on those noisy canons!!! =p
Hey, ich hab einen Fotografie Kanal auf Deutsch und hab grad ne kleine VERLOSUNG am Start. Schaut doch mal rein, wenn ihr Deutsch könnt. Würde mich freuen.
I was wondering if you could make more interesting video like DigitalRevCom. They make really nice videos and there not confusing like yours, now this doesn't mean your video are bad. Its just really hard to understand and confusing. You talking all the time in the video and us just listening to the video get really boring.
I was using my camera on a tripod, and a gust of wind blew it back and the camera hit the ground, and one edge/rail of the hotshoe is bent, therefor I cannot put my flash on. Is there any way I can send this to Canon, or buy another hot shoe anywhere? Thanks so much.
Did you miss that you are shooting with a 16-35mm L full frame lens on a cropped sensor... kind of confuses and screws with the thinking behind your method and the details you have shown. You should get a kit lens and commit to a bit if you are trying to help people with tutorials... asking for the L is always a good idea but a little bit selfish in this demo
pleasure of photography (z) = pleasure when expose the photo (x) + pleasure when looking at your photo (y) .... composing = taking time when expose your photo (less x) but higher y later. So if total z is not increasing after composing the photo right, there is no need to compose the photo right :p :p
hey, when your doing a shoot, say maybe a concert, or just a model. do you keep your focusing point in the middle, focus and move the subject to the side? or do you use the automatic af points?
jared, you need to improve your video quality. d7000 can do better than this. if tutorial videos is your next step, pay attention to quality, hd, color etc.
Hi Jared, can you suggest which format should we use for USB Flash Card? The other day I realised we can format into FAT, ExFat, or NTFS. For RAW which on is the best?
@giantLUKE2 dont get the kit lens. if you are on a tighter budget get the 18-200 but if your not get 24-70 and sigma 70-200. i made the mistake of getting the kit lens with my d5000.
I might just buy the body then, and then the 18-200 because i do a lot of sports, and a telephoto lens like that would be useful. i also will most likely get the 50mm 1.8. not totally sure. i mean, the kit lens isn't that bad..
I cant think of correct composition most of the times as most of my subjects are snakes and insects and for me spot on focus and timing are very important.
Hey jared, quick question. I'm getting $2000 for graduation. Which lense(s) should I get? Currently I have: D3100 with 18-55, 55-200, and a 35 1:8. Thanks, man.
Jared, I just wanted to say thank you for putting out this information for all of us to watch. In my mind one of your best videos yet, keep it up Super Jared Bro.

a lot of people i know don't take composition in to consideration when they take pictures especially on vacations resulting in sitting down and looking through over 100 none eye catching photos with them :( Even with a simple digital camera, composition goes a long way :) Thanks for the video Jared and to kermit de fro! -g! you should really give him a Fro as well :D

@nosmailliwydocbocaj the rule of thirds isn't for advanced, and the rule of thirds only exists to be broken.
So many people clamp on to the rule and get all kinds of the same, casual photo's because of it.
