Rskid; You have shown how ignorant you are about cars. It is a common mistake for people to think that v8s suck on gas, but that is far from the truth. The LS line of motors by GM get amazing power and get great mpg. I have an 04 GTO that makes about 380 at the break and still gets 28mpg running 80 on the hwy. look at it this way, a 4 banger has half the cylinders, so should use half the fuel of a v8 in a car that is half the weight. That meas about 55mpg... but they don't.Why? Aerodynamics?
@koolkat13838 I agree with you. I use to think that V8's always ate gas. Maybe in the 1960's but today's V8's are efficient, at least where highway mpg is concerned. Why? Because a larger V8 can lope at 1000rpm to maintain highway speed. A smaller 4 cylinder has to buzz at say 3000rpm, burns about the same. New Vettes and Mustangs get near 30mpg cruising on the highway in top gear. Heck the ZO6 is the first 500hp to avoid the gas guzzler tax.
@koolkat13838 Example: I own a 2003 Evo. Rated 18mpg city, 26hwy. It's a turbo 2L but those ratings look like a V8's. Also when I cruise at 75mph, my tach is at 3500rpm. So I have to keep pushing that accelerator, otherwise it will engine brake. I have driven a standard Corvette. I'd be at 80 mph and the tach was under 2000k, maybe near 1500rpm in top gear.

@koolkat13838 You are right, somewhat. It also has to do with how much the engine has to work with the drag coefficient. For instance, my '96 Jeep XJ w/ 4.0l I6 actually get better MPG with some mods. It was getting 23MPG highway when it was putting out 190hp, now, it is putting out around 230hp, but gets 28-30MPG! Why, it now has enough power at the right RPM to overcome drag. It also does 0-60 in 7-sec and 14.7 in the 1/4-mile. Not bad for a 4X4 SUV.
@koolkat13838 Oh, and it has 3.5" of lift and 255/75R15 tires. I whip on stock imports all the time with it. Surprises the hell out of people when a jacked up Jeep blows past them at 120mph! With the technology available today, there is not excuse why people should be getting bad MPG. I am an engineer, but it is pretty simple to do nowadays!

Rskid; You have shown how ignorant you are about cars. It is a common mistake for people to think that v8s suck on gas, but that is far from the truth. The LS line of motors by GM get amazing power and get great mpg. I have an 04 GTO that makes about 380 at the break and still gets 28mpg running 80 on the hwy. look at it this way, a 4 banger has half the cylinders, so should use half the fuel of a v8 in a car that is half the weight. That meas about 55mpg... but they don't.Why? Aerodynamics?

@koolkat13838 I agree with you. I use to think that V8's always ate gas. Maybe in the 1960's but today's V8's are efficient, at least where highway mpg is concerned. Why? Because a larger V8 can lope at 1000rpm to maintain highway speed. A smaller 4 cylinder has to buzz at say 3000rpm, burns about the same. New Vettes and Mustangs get near 30mpg cruising on the highway in top gear. Heck the ZO6 is the first 500hp to avoid the gas guzzler tax.

@koolkat13838 Example: I own a 2003 Evo. Rated 18mpg city, 26hwy. It's a turbo 2L but those ratings look like a V8's. Also when I cruise at 75mph, my tach is at 3500rpm. So I have to keep pushing that accelerator, otherwise it will engine brake. I have driven a standard Corvette. I'd be at 80 mph and the tach was under 2000k, maybe near 1500rpm in top gear.

@koolkat13838 You are right, somewhat. It also has to do with how much the engine has to work with the drag coefficient. For instance, my '96 Jeep XJ w/ 4.0l I6 actually get better MPG with some mods. It was getting 23MPG highway when it was putting out 190hp, now, it is putting out around 230hp, but gets 28-30MPG! Why, it now has enough power at the right RPM to overcome drag. It also does 0-60 in 7-sec and 14.7 in the 1/4-mile. Not bad for a 4X4 SUV.

@koolkat13838 Oh, and it has 3.5" of lift and 255/75R15 tires. I whip on stock imports all the time with it. Surprises the hell out of people when a jacked up Jeep blows past them at 120mph! With the technology available today, there is not excuse why people should be getting bad MPG. I am an engineer, but it is pretty simple to do nowadays!

@koolkat13838 i dont know about the aerodynamics bit... your v8 can do 80 on the freeway at 2500-3500 rpm im guessing while most imports will be somewhere around 4000-6000 rpm...thats where the biggest difference would be made... basicaly what im saying is while an import has to floor it and keep rpms high to be able to be fast, the meaty v8 can do with half as much effort... and 28 mpg? really? you may want to start working for GM because stock they claim 26 highway/16city....19 avg....

@lucki801 seriously people who own sports cars should know better than to complain about gas millage. it's a fucking sports car, their almost as bad as big gas guzzling v8 trucks. harder engine straining to go fast burns gas.
if your going to sit here and complain about getting 15 mpg or whatever it is most sports cars get, you should seriously drive a prius and stfu about gas millage

@Metallocity On a recent 200 mile trip I got 27.8 on the way down and 28.3 on the way back. Thats in a 95 Z28 convertible with 3.23 rears at 70 mph with cruise on. Yea, my mpg sucks....

@Metallocity fact check most LS vette motors get between 19 mpg ( zr1 638 hp ) and 28 mpg ( LS3 436 hp ) Grand Sport stock and if you let it breathe more even better over 30 mpg. So stick that into you pipe and smoke it
