After spending several years in retirement, Wreckless Eric returned to music in 1985 with Captains of Industry, a group he formed with several former members of Ian Dury's Blockheads
After spending several years in retirement, Wreckless Eric returned to music in 1985 with Captains of Industry, a group he formed with several former members of Ian Dury's Blockheads
I noticed the graphic at the end of the video said "Rock World." Dude! I remember seeing that show on local TV before the advent of MTV! Do you have any more videos of that show? And if so, are they're posted on your accout?
Why oh why wasn't Wreckless a world superstar ? Anybody remember him at The Van Dike Club in Plymouth UK ?...and check him out in The Len Bright Combo !!...Good Memories !
Ah yes...recording music videos from the TV. Those were the days. I got a bunch of VHS tapes with a mixture of cartoons, TV shows and LOADS of music videos. Good times, good times.
Saw this guy in Sydney Australia in 1979 and he was great. Not sure he remembers much about it but the band rocked and so did he. Great hear he is till rockin!!!!
I wish I'd seen that. I've never walked away disappointed from either an A-Bones show or a Wreckless Eric show, so I can only guess how good they were together.
Do you remember if he's still doing "Shicker Dicker Dum Dum?"
it really depends on how you look at it he had i guess you could say "main-stream" song but he was defiantly against everything main-stream so maybe he just didnt want to make another "one hit-wonder" i think pretty much all of his songs are amaizing though
@k8fan Mega thanks for uploading this. I was 15 when this song was released--when it would be played on late-night Australian TV music programmes. It's been three decades since I've seen this video and actually heard the song, but the line "hell's bells, buckets of blood, you've got me reaching for my tranquilizers" has remained carved into my memory. Once again, huge thanks k8fan.
@ortleyman cos he answered the question wrong. All STIFF artists were asked : Rich or famous? all said FAMOUS but Elvis MacManus said RICH please ! soon after Goulden hit rock bottom. Costello now plays to american crowds telling them what cunts they are...did I just swear?
Great posting...saw Eric many times incl the brilliant 5 live sTiff tour with larry wallis, ian dury, elvis C...........but eric was always me favourite.............god love him
Had the Big Smash LP for years, then lost that somehow. Then I found a 'greatest hits' CD recently, but the mix is apalling and half the songs I loved are missing.
I gotta find a quality mix of Big Smash someplace.
let's just make this 16 comments and 120 favourites...the bad thing about eric is when you try to put your albums and cd's in alphabetical order. wreckless eric, the captains of industry, the len bright combo, the hitsville house band....he's all over the place.
Thanks for posting that, that was cool! I'm in the States, was an Elvis Costello fan as a kid, and loved Nick Lowe also. Found out more about the Stiff Records scene when a friend gave me the Stiff Records box set several years ago. So many great, unique artists.
Does anyone know if Stiff Records has come back? Theres a video up on youtube for a song by The Producers, and its says 2007 on Stiff Records.
great thanks. I saw this on weird pop show Max Headroom" and remembered the 'buckets of blood' scene but found no trace of the video since then. at last it exists once more!
I remember hearing this when I was in school, at the local music shop. I used to beg my dad to take me to the record shop, and they had a telephone line called "song & dance"- they would put up a new song every day, you just telephoned the number and listened to the message- how I heard so many of my favorite bands for the first time, as a little kid! I miss the 70's!
No problem...glad to make it available. Stiff Records had the most amazing lineup of artists of any label right out of the gate. Some, like Elvis Costello, are famous. But all were good.
Oops- was looking at the wrong album... Doh! Haven't got a copy of "Big Smash" to hand, but I think that's John Brown on bass and Malcolm Morley (the non- balding bloke) on Guitar.
Excellent! What a star Eric is. According to the back of the album; Malcolm Morley- Electric & Acoustic Guitars, Brady- Electric Guitar (this guy could really play, live he was outstanding), John Brown- Electric Bass Guitar, Geir Wade- Drums, Pete Solley- Keyboards (ex Procol Harem). Thanks for Posting the clip!
@k8fan Nope there ain't no blockheads in there...unless John Turnbull can play leftie and Watt-roy bought himself a pointy bass. Also the drummer looks like Ed Tudor-pole's brother...I guess these guys feature on the wreckless goulden album released around 79-81. Is this post STIFF? STIFF RECORDS = Big crooks not at all what people think they are....were
