  • Most older singers "lose it" and keep on going, coasting on their fan base, but the rare few learn how to use their mature voices to even greater effect. The vibrato isn't wobbly, the intonation perfect, and oh the expression: that's where older singers really shine. And he can sustain a note just beautifully! A real singer.

  • Ed ames can just flat out sing!!! and I did enjoy him as an actor. Thank you Ed for all the entertainment you have provided through the years.

  • I hope I'm looking and sounding that good at 84. Hell I hope I'm still ALIVE at 84. Keep it up, Ed.

  • Great song great singer great guy....

  • Zowie! I used to hear this one over the radio when I was a child. Thank you for posting.

  • A #1 hit for Ed Ames on what is now the Adult Contemporary charts. It was the 83rd #1 song on this chart. It also hit #8 on the Top 40 charts and #9 in Canada. His biggest hit.

  • I'm sorry, but it doesn't get any better than this. A wonderful man and singer.

  • After so many years.. I cried. i just cried when I listened to this. It's still achingly beautiful. Thanks for this. I had no idea I would cry but it was a good cry.

  • As much as I love this song, isn't a basic "stalker" type of song? Listen to the lyric's. He loves her but is stalking her too!

  • Does anyone have a song they can post titled Bound for Glory (El Camino Real) that is off the album Love of the Common People but is missing on the CD?

  • My Mom had this album when it came out, and I listened to it over and over. I used to have all the songs on there memorized, and they still bring a big smile to my face,

  • WoW! What a voice he still has! I'm 16 and I want to thnk my grandparents for playing those old vinyl records and letting me hear God's voice slowly put me to sleep! I love all these classical songs! The good ol' days.. How I never knew thee... ;(

  • I have admired Ed for decades and decades... even when it wasn't "cool" .. He is an EXTRAORDINARY man.. Loved seeing him in the old movies too. God Bless Ed!

  • Thank you for this wonderful post.

  • For a man at 84 years, Ed still song good.

  • Nearly 50 years ago. This melody struck me right in the middle of my heart. Oh man were we young. Noone in Germany knew that song, it was one of my favorites. From the beginning to the end of time! My cup runneth over with love!

Thank you thousand times Ed Ames! And thank you Rhapsodist11.

  • Happy Birthday Ed! July 9, 1927 84 years young and he can still sing!

  • @Providenceguyri - Thank you, I didn't know Ed's birthday so Happy Belated Ed Ames! :-)

  • the LEGEND.... LIVE on stage, now this is something

  • Yes, Rhapsodist11, you did it right putting this one up, if you never did another good thing in your life (which I would have a hard time believing if that were the case) ;-) Thank you so much for sharing this awesome piece.

  • @PalaverTwist - Thank you for the delightful comments and I'm pleased you enjoyed the clip!

  • @Rhapsodist11 My pleasure!

  • That's how it's done, son!

Beautiful. But I miss my Michelle Leigh.

  • my grandmothers favorite song. when i listen to him sing it makes me miss her a little less. love you grandma grace

  • Simply GREAT! Both song and singer. He's a REAL artist!

  • @alemelech - Andy Williams too!

  • I had never heard of him before. Really nice voice.

  • Wow he can still hold a note ..TY for the song great.

  • I remember watching Daniel Boone with Fess Parker and Ed Ames as Mingo when I was still very young. Then one night it was on the Jim Nabors show I believe, where he sang this and it not only blew me away but I thought at the time, that's the kind of love I want some day. Over the years I've often wondered what happened to Ed. While I don't have the memories to connect with this, for the first time in my life, I have a love who fills my cup to overflowing with love. TYSM for sharing. <3 Naomi

  • What a great voice..

  • Terrific! Like Joni James he has always had the ability to take a song and

    make it unique.

  • Ed Ames was 80 years old when this was recorded in 2007. EIGHTY ! How impressive and he was very classy in his presentation. Thanks to whomever put this on.

  • My parents played music all the time in the house when I was young. I remember his Christmas album was my favorite when I was just a very little girl of four or five. I was so in love with his voice and still am.

  • Thank you for giving me back 2 minutes and 57 seconds of my youth! Best song ever IMO.

  • Memorybrasil

Linda canção, Ed, alem do talendo que apresentou em DANIEL BOONE, tambem tem uma belissina voz. Tenho muita saudade de quando era criança e assistia as séries de Daniel Boone, cujo filho tinha o mesmo nome que o meu... Parabens a Ed Ames.

  • This is a great song sung by a fine gentleman.

    That's my comment.

  • One of my older siblings had this on a 45 when i was just 5 years old...I fell in love with it then, & still love it today!! {Not to mention that crush I had on "Mingo"...} Thank you so much for posting such a sweet memory!

  • ed ames el mitico actor de la serie daniel boone, que también un gran músico

  • Ed Ames is such a class performer. Love his voice and the songs he has sang for us through the years. Enjoyed the video. Thanks for posting.

  • Thank goodness for Ed....we all know the fading that is a part of aging...but he shows in a real world example that it is still possible to be accomplished regardless..

  • This brings back such memories. He has been gone five years, but my cup runneth over with love for that young man I met years ago in high school

  • What wonderful memories this brings. I could listen to it forever!

  • He still looks and sounds good!!!!!! What an amazing man.

  • Can't believe how beautiful his voice still is. Such a wonderful singer. Thank you.

  • I've got an LP with Bobby Goldsbourough doin' this, and it says it's written by Tom Jones... can that be right? And I can't find the words / chords for this on-line.

  • @xxxMrSuspendedxxx "My Cup" WAS written by "Tom Jones," but not the Welsh singer of the same name. Tom Jones is a Texas-born composer. The song comes from his musical "I Do, I Do." There exists a TERRIFIC Broadway recording with Mary Martin and Robert Preston (of Music Man fame.) Jones also wrote and performed(s) in "The Fantasticks," from which "Try to Remember" is a memorable song.

  • @trp3141592 Hey thanks, I had no idea. Yeah "Try To Remember" is a great song that Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra, and about everybody covered. I passed on a LP of "The Fantastics" at the Salvation Army once and am sorry now!

  • Wonderful Wonderful Ed Ames! I love this Song for everytime.

  • His voice is STILL extroardinary<

  • soy de ECUADOR mis respetos para mi inolvidable MINGO graciiiiiaas por haber hecho esa serie tan hermosa como es DANIEL BOONE HASTA siempre ED

  • THIS MAN IS AN AMAZING TALENT ! I have admired him for 41 years !

  • "In this moment with sunlight above..." It has been most of a lifetime since we were young and the world was bright. Back then, cancer separated us in this life, but not in the next. Although I am now grayed, bent, and limping, my cup still runs over with love. We were not allowed to grow old together, but we will share eternity together.

    I will always love you.

  • @trp3141592

Such a touching post. It's so nice to know there is such a thing as true love. You and your loved one were truly blessed to have each other for the time you did. I also wish it could have been longer, but you will walk the last mile together. God Bless.

  • @dmbarnes1947

Thank you for your most kind thoughts. Love really doesn't die, nor does it diminish. My life has been good; I just wish he had been here to share with me, and me with him. --Tom

  • I love his voice!! My dad used to play this song over and over again. Thanx for posting!!

  • oh! how this takes me back to my childhood playing the 45 of ed ames and brothers my cup runneth over and the flip marching along with my red river rose.... thanks .

  • Bravo!! Bravo!! Love it!! Totally Wonderful!!

  • This is a song from an album that I purchased in the 60's. A classic love song that has bridged

the years beautifully. It is a song that has remained in my mind and heart all these years.

His voice is still the best ever. Thank you for sharing and God bless.

  • Not just one of my favorites but one of the BEST sons ever! And one heck of a gentleman.

  • rhapsodist11, thank you for posting such a lovely song by one of my favorite singers of all time. It is amazing that his voice still sounds rich and unwavering at so advanced an age. What year was this recorded?

  • I think it was either September or, October of 1967.

  • GREAT JOB!!!

  • Wow! I remember this song as as a kid. (I'm 45). He sounds just as good, if not better than he did then. Awesome!

  • I grew up on Ed Ames & Bob Goulet. This genre was all we heard at my Nonnie & Poppy's house. Like Bob Goulet, a very smooth baritone. Great talent for both men. No one can measure up today with the great singers of yesteryear.

  • At my wedding in 1986, my then husband's in-law sang this song which, of course, I had requested. I have often wandered if it, possibly, had to do with my only child, Amber, being born on Ed Ames' birthday - July 9, exactly sixty years apart.

    It, certainly, makes one wander!!!

  • Dad will be 62 in about a month... He told us kids years ago that this is the song that he wants played at his funeral... Even though dads is still alive when I hear this song it makes me tear up knowing someday I will hear this song at my dads funeral... I can only hope to be half the Dad to my kids as he has been to us kids... Love ya Papa!!!

  • Thank you Maybelle for sending me this video, I love this beautiful song, sang by Ed's beautiful voice.

  • So--- Ed. Why no Broadway? or did you? I see Gordon MacRae...or rather, you doing his parts. Or gee whiz - even light opera. I guess you did exactly what you wanted to do and was happier for it!

Geez, this version is a little peppy for the words. The original version just really hits you right there!

  • no one compares today.

  • Ed Ames is just like the most expensive wine in the world, gets better as it ages. How could we not love him.

  • Very sweet sentiment trp314, one of my favorite songs as well. Its wonderful that you found someone as I did, to build what memories you did. I wouldn't have been better without having known her I'm sure. Best regards, Les

  • He's STILL got it.

    Excellent video-thank you Ed Ames!

  • We were young and in love when this song performed by Ed Ames hit the airwaves. Our cups ran over with love then, but cancer separated us only a few years later. Now after nearly 40 years the my hair is white and a limp has entered my step, but my cup STILL runneth over with love.

    I will love you always.

  • @trp3141592 - Very beautiful,

  • I love Ed Ames. As a kid I watched Daniel Boone and he played Mingo--it was great!! He's such a wonderful singer!!!

  • i was living in bangkok in 1968 when this song first was popular. what a classic, and what an artist! chicken-fried rice, jasmine, and yes, poppy seeds and marijuana all combined at that time to make this a classic of my childhood! why don't performers of this caliber exist today? mr. ames, you make memories of my lifetime!

  • WOW!!

My cup runneth over with his voice !!!

  • Thank you, I love this song, which I knew as a child and never hear nowadays!

  • Everytime I hear this song by Ed Ames I just get all FEELY GOODY !!!! Wow what a Talent !!! He does this as good now as he did in the 60's !!!

  • He is over 80 years old here? Wow! He still looks great!! Still very handsome and distinguished and classy. Still can sing too. Must come from good clean living. An absolutely beautiful song perfectly done! I had this on 45 and now decades later have it on my I-Pod. Thank goodness we can still listen to wonderful songs such as this one! The songs and entertainers now can't compare - they are churned out accordingly to how they look and not necessarily major talents in their own right.

  • A touching performance of a beautiful song by a very talented singer. Absolutely amazing even given all the years since the original we are familiar with, God did bless him and we are lucky as well. Thank you.

  • I remember hearing this song as a kid and thinking it was great. Now I'm in my fifties and have been married to the same woman for over thirty years. It makes me tear up everytime I watch this video. Note, I tear up from joy, not depression!

  • so do I

fritz (in my fifties and married since 20 years)

  • I remember being a very little kid riding in the back of our station wagon just crying my eyes out when this most beautiful song came on the radio. I am 50 now. Pass the kleenex. One of my all-time favourite recordings.

  • I remember this song from my childhood. Now I'm 46, he still sounds GREAT at his age....

  • He is 80+ years old in this video!!! What an extraordinary voice! Now run over to itunes and buy this song!! Does anyone sing with this clarity these days? The good Lord broke the mold on this one...

  • What a beautiful song!!!

  • I still love your voice. What power. Keep singing.

  • Not only is this a great song, but for his voice to be this strong after all these years is amazing

  • This man is truly amazing. One of my all-time favorite songs. Thanks for posting.

  • I wish that writers of todays music would revisit the past and produce songs like this

  • Wow, Ed sounds great; 40yrs after this was a big hit for him. I love this song, such good lyrics and Ed's rich full baritone voice; the best.
