When schools are closed and left rot it says a lot about our current state of affairs. We are in big trouble folks whether our political system wants to admitt it or not. Do not try to hand me the stuff about this being a Detroit thing either because this is happening everywhere.

Kids with nothing better to do destroyed what was left of it. I often wonder why it is that people have no pride in their own neighborhood. I feel sorry for the people who live in Detroit in these ravaged areas. The ones that have pride but live in defeat because Detroit looks like one big cancer mass.

This school was called "Owen Elementary School", it was closed in 2006, and it's probably completely demolished by now.

@rudolft Closed in 2006!!!!! That was 4 years ago. This building looks like its been left to rot for 20 years!!!

When a school district loses funding or the number of students drops to a point in that the area schools are consolidated to save money. Depending on how the district was reorganized they probably thought it better just to cut thier efforts and just leave things there and start over. Essential items were removed, but things such as computers were probably out-dated when the schoold closed. The walls are all torn up beacuse people come in and take the copper pipes and other valuable metals.

There are a lot of abandoned schools in Detroit that just lost funding and sbruptly left all their supplies there. I know a woman who goes into the abandoned Detroit schools and takes all the stuff that was left and donates it to current students. When the schools lose funding they just shut their doors and that's it. It's very unfortunate.
