(3) Perhaps there is a basic reason why critics so often get it wrong.

It's like Eisenhower said,

"It's not the critic who counts... [but] the man in the arena..."

Things may look a lot clearer, for the individual who steps off his/her soap box and LIVES.

Anyway, that's one theory.

(2) Also, as far as the choppy scene transitions (and even the exposition some critics are feeling lost without), are more a result of the studio's cut than the directors actual cut (which is 30 minutes longer.)

We might be able to see that in the future... but two choppy scene transitions for me won't require it.

I'd happily pre-buy my DVD copy. Good flick.

(1) This movie is awesome.

I've never read the books and was NOT confused.

They explained enough to appreciate what's going on in this "other world."

The movie has a good pace too other than a few choppy scene transitions.

Other than that, Awesome.

The book was 1000 times better. The movie just skims over the surface of the story and never really explains what is going on or develops the characters. If they make a movie of the second book, which is doubtful, since this one flopped so bad, but if they do, I hope they do a better job.

yer...I wasn't sure what to think of this movie. it was better than some of the crap we've had to deal with latley (don't even get me started on Eragon)

I wouldn't advise it to people who havn't read the books, because it's really comfusing...but I wouldn't advise it to people who have read the books either, it destroys alot of the story and dulls it down for the kids.

Especially the ending, the ending was a come flavioured lolly pop

Great review guys. I was hoping to be the first up on Youtube but ah you beat me!!  I would say I disagree with your point that people with a working brain will not like the movie. I never read the books and was completely captivated by it from beginning to end. I did not find it hard to understand at all. The only place I thought it was unclear was when the girl would see something in the compass, and the ending was a cheap setup for the next 2 films.
