  • I loved your ladybug. Thanks for sharing. I couldn't find a confectioners glaze in brazil, can you tell me what is in it? and, does it dry?

  • @megdias7

    Thank you!

    A confectioner's glaze is a shellac product.

From wikipedia->>"Shellac is a resin secreted by the female lac bug, on trees in the forests of India and Thailand. It is processed and sold as dry flakes, which are dissolved in denatured alcohol to make liquid shellac, which is used as a brush-on colorant, food glaze and wood finish. Shellac functions as a tough all-natural primer, sanding sealant, tannin-blocker, odor-blocker, stain, and high-gloss varnish. "

Every other candy with shiny surface (like gum balls, M&M's, ets.) is covered with shellac for that shiny look.

The glaze dries in minutes, leaving very shine and dry surface. You cannot substitute it with home made "confectioner's glazes" just because they are not shellac based and do not have the same properties.

You may look for it on ebay, or american/canadian cake decorating supply stores.

  • your job is gorgeous

  • This is really cute ! how long can we keep it in the freezer?

  • @MischievousKP

    Thank you MischievousKP ,

you don't want to put any gum paste decorations in to the freezer, as it may destroy it. Let it dry and store in airtight container, it will be good for months.
